That was supposed to be a play on Manifest Destiny. You know, with the expansion and all?

MLS Rumors got the hot tip on which two cities are looking to be added by 2011:
My sources are adamant that the expansion teams have already been determined. Atlanta missed out. No word on Portland.

5

It was recently announced that MLS hopes to bring two more new teams to the league in 2011. Seattle is coming on next season and Philadelphia the following year. Now all the talk of expansion teams is in Canada. I do still think that St. Louis will probably get one and likely Vancouver could get the other.

Red Bulls 1, Chivas USA 1: A Supporter's View

0

Last week was an interesting week to be a New York soccer fan. On one hand you had the Showdown in Chinatown, a memorable charity game in Manhattan that featured some of sport's biggest stars, while on the other you had the Red Bulls beating Chivas de Guadalajara in a friendly. Except for Claudio Reyna playing in the charity match, there was something for Red Bulls fans to be happy about.

Soccer Ball Tricks: How to do an "Around the World"

14
Folks, I'm getting old. And back in my day – I can use that phrase because I'm getting old – the only soccer "tricks" I knew about were juggling and the rainbow.

I long ago mastered juggling and the rainbow but for some reason, this "around the world" ball trick was something I'd never seen before! Click to continue reading...

In the company of greatness

Marc Stein waxes worshipfully about his charity game experience with Steve Nash, Theirry Henry, etc.
I had to laugh at his description of Kalou, because when I met him at the Beverly Hills Hotel for is official intro as a Chelsea player, that's how he seemed to me. Just a shy teenager, albeit one making millions of dollars. Click to continue reading...

We'll start with the offbeat stuff and go on to the weekend watch, which will be heavy on the Euros and MLS, including the big one in D.C.:

Nash/Reyna charity game: A Look Back

Standing in the middle of an energized crowd, Jozy Altidore rattled off autographs and posed for picture after picture. Even after most of the other stars who played in the Steve Nash/Claudio Reyna charity match in Manhattan's Chinatown, Altidore stood on the turf at Nike Field and signed and posed for fans eager to meet American soccer's most exciting young star.

Showdown in Chinatown - Henry, Reyna, Nash Deliver

Alot of things I didn't think were possible happened yesterday.

#1 - A park in the middle of New Yorks infamous Chinatown district was packed on all ends by thousands of footie fanatics dying for a glimpse of some of their favorite stars.

#2 - I got to see TiTi Henry, Robbie Fowler, Kalou, Reyna, Altidore, Angel, Jason Kidd, Barbosa, Baron Davis and and the infamous Steve McManaman play some footie from about a half foot distance.

So I Went to that Steve Nash/Claudio Reyna Thing...

I never thought I would see Soloman Kalou score off a Jason Kidd assist, but I did today. I never thought I would see Jozy Altidore play in New York again, but I did today. Sh*t, I never thought I would see Claudio Reyna score in New York, but I did today. That's the kind of fantasy world Steve Nash & Claudio Reyna's "Showdown in Chinatown" was. Apologies for the lack of posts; the wife and I are sick as dogs and life at TOR Towers is not unlike that inside a leper colony. Except in the leper colony they probably still don't have to go to work.

MLS Expansion - Could NBA's Steve Nash bring a MLS team to Vancouver?

6
There are three facts that no one can argue. One, the NBA's Steve Nash is a huge soccer fan. Two, the USL's Vancouver Whitecaps would love to move to MLS. Three, MLS has been more then just a little impressed with the results out of Toronto, thus is very open to the idea of another team in Canada. Click to continue reading...
