Where do you draw the line when it comes to Fernando Torres' fitness? That's the question I've been
asking myself ever since I wrote yesterday's piece on Steve Gerrard's absence from the squad for
Wednesday night's European tilt against Lyon. I read, re-read, and then read Rafa's comments
regarding the injury numerous times before coming [.

Lucas Leiva had a great game against Man Utd on Sunday.
I have been his biggest critic since he first joined Liverpool a couple of seasons ago.
But I have to say he was very good yesterday in central midfield alongside Mascherano.
He tackled like a man possessed, winning virtually every challenge he went into.

I've mentioned before on here about Singapore's whiney sports culture. They complained that
Liverpool didn't bring Steve Gerrard, they complained about the ticket prices against China for a
recent friendly. And now they have something else to complain about. And rather like a gaggle of
hags settled round their knitting and cauldrons you get the impression they might just be enjoying
themselves.

With a 5-1 victory at Wembley, the English national team was able to exorcise the ghosts of its
last meeting with Croatia and advance to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. 5-1? Against
effectively the same Croatia side that gave England fits in their 2007 meeting? You could write off
last year's 4-1 England victory in Zagreb as a fluke, but this suddenly makes England look pretty
good.

God, You would think we had just been relegated the way the media and some around Liverpool have
reacted to last night's strange defeat to Aston Villa.
We caused our own downfall last evening thanks to errors by Lucas and Steve Gerrard.
But we had 21 shots with 11 on target compared to Villa's 6 strikes on goal, we didn't play badly
and did not deserve to get beaten.

Liverpool surprisingly lost 3-1 to Aston Villa at Anfield to end a run of 31 matches unbeaten at
home and leaving them with two defeats out of three so far this season.
Things started to go wrong when Lucas headed into his own goal after 30 minutes and they were made
worse on half-time when Davies headed in from a Villa corner.

After last night's demolition of Stoke City the optimism has returned to Anfield.
Steve Gerrard played as an orthodox inside-right midfielder and his constant surging runs caused
havoc amongst the Stoke defenders, whipping in cross after cross, it was Gerrard who propelled us
to victory.
Rafa obviously has a few tactical changes up his sleeve so we need not worry, we are title
contenders again, thank God

Liverpool will be looking for a victory against Stoke at Anfield tonight.
Following the defeat to Spurs on Sunday, the Reds know this is a must-win game in the bid for the
Title.
Of course, the two nil-nils against Stoke last season may have cost Liverpool the League, so we
will be gunning for revenge tonight.

Liverpool lost their opening game of the new season to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane
today.Playing without Xabi Alonso for the first time since his move to Madrid, the Reds looked
lethargic in the first half, with only one shot towards goal by Captain Steve Gerrard.Spurs took
the lead close to the break when defender Assou-Ekotto scored a screamer from outside the box.

As the new season is upon us, Fernando Torres has signed a new five year deal worth £110,000 a
week to keep him at the club until
2014, excellent news.
Meanwhile, doubts persist about Steve Gerrard's groin injury which continues to cause concern for
Sunday's Premier League opener away to Tottenham Hotspur.

There is nothing football supporters enjoy more than a talking point, something to stir debate,
boil the blood and argue about. In honour of this noble pursuit I decided to compile two teams made
up from the best English players ever to grace the Premier League and pit them against the best
foreign XI.

Liverpool's football heroes are used to nights of great drama - but not in the theatre.
Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher took to the stage with assistant manager Sammy Lee at the
opening night of a play about the club's greatest game. One Night in Istanbul follows a group of
Liverpool fans trying to watch the incredible 2005's Champions League final win in a seedy Turkish
hotel.

Liverpool's title plans have been thrown into disarray by a standoff between Javier Mascherano and
manager Rafa Benitez.
The pair fell out at the end of last season after Benitez rotated the team, leaving Mascherano out
of some crucial matches.
The 25-yearold captain of Argentina is now pressing for a move to La Liga,
declaring he is ‘flattered' by reported interest from Barcelona.

Fernando Torres' rookie season in the Premier League was a resounding success due to his exploits
in front of goal, notching an impressive 33, and the Spain international claims that the
improvements in his game have been vast, and are down to the tutelage of Reds gaffer Rafael
Benitez.
"Rafa concentrates on the professional side of things," said Torres, to the official site of the
world's governing body for football; FIFA.

Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew! That was a game and half wasn't it?
How the hell have Liverpool fans dealt with two games like that in one week? I tell you this, its
24 hours later and my pulse is still racing faster than Usain Bolt runs.
The point gained for Arsenal should cement at least fourth place in the Premiership for us.

Almost every homo sapien on earth believes that Steve Gerrard is the best thing to have come out of
Liverpool since the Beatles. I'd agree to a point. He is mustard. The second best player England
have. After Theo Walcott of course.
Luckily for Arsenal, unluckily for Liverpool I've heard a sick rumour he won't be playing tomorrow.

Michael Essien is an athletic beast. He got his head down in time for a goal line save in the
90th minute as Cech was beaten all ends up. The Blues would have gone to the semi-finals on goal
aggregate even in defeat. It was a pulsating encounter with end to end action.
But Liverpool was riding on emotion with the observance of the 20th anniversary of the
Hillsborough tragedy this week.

I had to think several times before I wrote this post. I couldn't decide whether to write it
because it involved another club and not my beloved Arsenal. In the end I decided that Gooners
would understand why I have wrote this post.
I watched the Liverpool V Blackburn match yesterday and was genuinely moved by events there.

After six years at Tottenham, Robbie Keane has completed his transfer to Liverpool, the club he
supported as a youngster. It is a great move for Keane who will play Champions League football and
should be a great move for Liverpool who have bought an experienced and proven striker. The fee of
nineteen million pounds is high but in the light of other recent moves, would seem to be about
right.

Aston Villa have rejected Liverpool's latest bid for Gareth Barry as the continuing saga becomes
even more acrimonious.
Liverpool's new bid is believed to be in the region of £15 million but is still short of Aston
Villa's valuation. The likelihood of Barry staying at Villa Park has all but disappeared after the
club fined him for speaking out against them and in particular, manager Martin O'Neill, in an
unauthorised newspaper interview.

It's that time of the season when the player of the season awards start being handed out. It's also

positions. It is unlikely that any two fans would select an identical ‘team of the year'
