When posting the 2009 ADRs earlier this week, I asked what jumped out at you. Well here's some
questions that jumped out at me:
1.
Is Dejan Jakovic really all that good? The biggest surprise for me on the whole
was Jakovic's even 3.00 rating. After winning three Benny Awards, you would have thought his rating
would be among the best on the team.

DC United saw their season come to a close after this weekend with their draw at Kansas City and
FC Dallas winning at Seattle. The time has come to decide what the team needs to do next season.
This is the second season in a row United has not made the playoffs with winning the Supporter's
Shield the 2 years prior.

The Wizards ended the 2009 season without a playoff berth, but they went out by helping to kill DC
United's season. Along with other results around the league, KC's 2-2 draw with DC last night
eliminated DC from making the playoffs as well. A late penalty kick by Claudio Lopez proving to be
the tying goal.

Plenty of fans were saying last night that this match was like a microcosm of our season. I
disagree. A microcosm of our season would have included DC United grabbing an early lead and taking
it into halftime. It also would have included many chances to go even further ahead, but we would
have had multiple goals disallowed and/or our opponent would have scored after some poor
officiating.

Gregg Berhalter is all business!
While Landon Donovan and David Beckham bask in the aftermath of the Galaxy making the playoffs,
the real story in their turnaround is their defense.
31 goals given up in 2009. That is half of the 2008 total!
That is right. In 2008, the Galaxy gave up 62 goals even as they set the scoring ablaze with 55
goals.

D.C. United scratched their way back to a playoff berth only to see a stoppage time red card and
subsequent penalty conversion relegate United to cheerleaders for other results. United's 2-2 draw
was in many ways a capsule of their frustrating season as their destiny was in their hands and yet
again it slipped away.

The playoff scenarios are mind-boggling.
It is actually possible for United to find its way into the MLS Cup playoffs regardless of win,
loss or draw tonight, but the likelihood is very slim if the Black-and-Red come away with anything
but a victory in Kansas City. The Wizards cannot make it to the post-season, but will certainly
come out hoping to put on a show for their fans in the last home game of the year.

Can't stand the suspense or the scenario-crunching? Here's what will happen this weekend in MLS,
chronologically:
Toronto at New York, 7:30 p.m.: A lot of people seem to be assuming Toronto will
march right over the last-place Red Bulls. Don't overlook the motivation of New York playing the
final game of a magical era -- the interim coachship of Richie Williams.

Given the unfortunate results of the Chicago/Chivas and Marathon/San Juan matches last night, a
WIN for DC United on Saturday has now become all the more crucial. The number of playoff
spots at stake just dropped from 3 to 2 with the Fire's victory. What's worse though is that the
loss by Chivas USA means that Columbus has now clinched the Supporter's Shield, and therefore will
have nothing to play for in their final match against the Revolution on Sunday.

We spoke to a bunch of the guys today about Saturday's regular season finale in Kansas City. The
game is a must-win for United as it vies to be one of six teams to capture one of the two remaining
playoff spots.

Finishing 1-1 against the leader of the Mexican Primera Division on the road is a better result
than most of us expected, and probably a better result than we deserved. Still, thanks to some
inspired play by a few individuals, and some poor shooting by Toluca, we emerged with a single
point.
A win would have secured our spot in the Champions' League quarterfinals, but let's not count
ourselves out yet.

D.C. United 1: 0 Columbus Crew
Six Word Novel Recap A decent team, with terrible supporters.
Let me just start by saying that Steve Cronin impressed the hell out of me last night. He played
confidently, and he did not hesitate to come off of his line or even out of the box. At one point
last night, he ran almost to the corner flag to shield a Crew player off the ball until it ran out
for a goal kick.

D.C. United's fading playoff hopes heading into tonight's match up with the Columbus Crew received
a jolt of good fortune as Luciano Emilio's 17th minute strike held up through heavy pressure and
keeps the Black and Red's playoff chances alive.

After dropping three straight matches at home to MLS opponents, and with our most consistent
defender and our two most dynamic attackers out, most fans didn't really expect DC United to win
this match. Especially not against the soon-to-be back-to-back Supporters' Shield winners. And it
may not have been an attractive victory, but it was a victory none the less.

It's come to this - another must win game, and another must win game against Columbus.
Will DC, complete with its coach-is-clearly-panicking-terrible-starting-goalkeeper (Steve Cronin)
and an injury/suspension list a mile long beat a Columbus team poised to make another run at a MLS
title?

Well, the long winding MLS season has come down to this: needing 6 points from 2 games and
needing a host of other things to go our way in MLS play for the chance to advance into the
playoffs. Last year around this time, Columbus was eliminating us at Crew Stadium, and I was happy
that the elimination might lead to sweeping changes in the team.

We'll shortly announce officially that we've acquired goalkeeper Steve Cronin on loan from the
Portland Timbers (United Soccer League First Division). The club received approval from MLS to
obtain the 26-year old as an extreme hardship roster addition. Cronin joined the team at training
for the first time today.

Taylor Twellman reached the 100-goal mark faster than any player in the history of Major League
Soccer. The prolific poacher hit the century mark in just his eighth season with the New England
Revolution. In 2005 he was named the league's MVP, slotting home 17 goals.

Vancouver in their last 3 matches.

In some weird, nonsensical way Rochester Rhinos are the LA Galaxy of USL1. In the late 90's/early
2000's they were the "model franchise" that won championships and trophies (3 league titles and the
US Open Cup between 1998-2001) and seemed destined to take their club to a higher level, that level
being Major League Soccer.

While I was sleeping our faithful reader George linked us to some personnel changes. Brandon
MacDonald and Mike Randolf have been waived. Ruud Gullit was high on MacDonald last year, and
Randolf has been an on again off again starter in the back four. I guess we have to cut our roster
somewhere, and these guys don't fit into Bruce Arena's plans.

Donovan impressed earlier today in Bayern Munich's friendly against Al Jazeera Sports Club in

we know and love.

Storm clouds were (literally) gathering as the Galaxy practice ended Monday at Home Depot
Center, the suffocating miasma of the sticky air seemingly reflecting the deepening gloom engulfing
the team.
Veteran Pete Vagenas, usually one of the friendliest and most accommodating Galaxy players,
walked off the field, his gaze locked at the ground straight ahead in a clear sign he was in no
mood to talk.

The Galaxy enter today's home game (8:00 pm PDT - FSC) in the grip of a club-record 12 game
winless streak, taking just six points from the 36 on offer. They sit at the bottom of the Western
Conference on 26 points, four points out of the last Western playoff spot. It's been over 100 days

Donovan and David Beckham will be playing together in front of the Home

LA hasn't won in 11 matches. The last time we tasted victory was a couple of weeks before I left
for Spain! We were in first place at that moment. Now we're tied for last. Our coach Ruud Gullit
quit the team because the American system was too restrictive for the way he wanted to coach.
