CARSON, CALIF -- Eugene Starikov's journey has been a winding road that is not typical among
American soccer players. A search for soccer success that has taken him from the heat of Central
Florida to the chill of Siberia and finally to the sunny fields of Carson, California.
NEW YORK, NY No one can accuse Bob Bradley of cutting corners in his quest to find a striker who
can actually score goals. Now the search has extended all the way to Siberia. On Friday, the U.S.
Soccer Federation announced the late addition of Eugene Starikov, 22, to the national team's
California camp.
*The EPL's Tottenham Hotspur hopes/believes/is trying to convince themselves (take your pick,
one is as good as another at this point since the Galaxy never confirm any deal until every "i" is
dotted) that David Beckham could be on loan to them by Sunday. Details here. And don't you just
love those vague comments from Spurs boss Harry Rednapp.
The USMNT camp of new faces has added another national team newcomer to the mix, with Bob
Bradley calling in Russian-based striker Eugene Starikov.
Born in the Ukraine, Starikov was raised in Florida and played for Stetson University before
signing with Zenit St. Petersburg in 2009. He went on loan to Russian First Division side Tom
Tomsk, where he scored one goal in nine appearances.
Zenti St Petersburg's Eugene Starikov has been added to the US National Team camp currently
training in Carson, California in advance of the January 22nd friendly against Chile. Starikov was
born in the Ukraine but spent his childhood in Florida playing his high school soccer in Palm
Harbor and staying in Florida by attending Stetson University.
