Score-lines from the weekend's football included a 2-2 draw between West Ham and Arsenal at Upton
Park, ahead of Arsenal's rather more bitter London derby this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea trounced Blackburn Rovers 5-0 after a defeat against Aston Villa the week before which
keeps them out in front, though in a rather less spectacular points lead.

Not seen out of frame, the past laurels Kevin Payne is resting on.Kevin Payne decided to blow off some steam in an interview with the Washington Post's Steven Goff
last night. Payne sounds a little bit flustered and more than a little bit defensive.
Quote: "We don't want to play like Colorado or New England, which most of the season sat with eight
or nine guys behind the ball.

Saturday afternoon was traditionally an escape for most male football fans. A chance to meet up

referee exactly how to do his job. This was male territory away from wives and girlfriends, a
chance to have a good [.

The Arjen Robben story continues to gather steam, especially now that Wesley Sneijder has
reportedly agreed a five year deal with Inter.
Robben, best known for being a crock aside from being among the few creative outlets in a
Chelsea team also shone during his spell in Real Madrid. He is on the right side of 26, in keeping
with our policy to sign 'younger players'.

This blog neglected for too long the Brazilian second division. And this is a shame. The second
division in 2009 has a giant (Vasco), former Brazilian champions (Guarani and Bahia), former
Brasileiro runner's up (Sao Caetano, Bragantino and Portuguesa) and many other traditional sides
that played the first division for many years (Figueirense, Parana, Fortaleza, Juventude, Ponte
Preta).

Richards - Another steady game and useful forays forward. A positive start to the season and
appears to be regaining form. 7
Toure - A solid day at the office, comfortable on the ball and links in well with the front men.

On days like this, it is perhaps advisable to avoid talking about football. You know what's coming
following Liverpool's insipid display at Tottenham yesterday: complaints and whingeing at best,
stupidity at worst.
It is also a given that there will be a lot of finger pointing going on. Already I see that Jamie
Carragher (in particular) and Martin Skrtel have taken something of a lashing for what was,
admittedly, horrendous defending whilst Xabi Alonso's absence has also been widely blamed for the
defeat.

Nicklas Bendtner is quickly becoming an Arsenal icon.
He keeps doing everything right.
After getting booed by his own fans for large portions of last season, he first responded by acting
like he couldn't care less. Then he improved markedly and became a fan favorite, making the
difference in some games late in the season, like the FA Cup match against Hull City.

Manchester City haven't given up in their pursuit of Everton defender Joleon

go without a serious scrap.
While their persistence might not be paying off (yet, at least), it's paying off for Hull
City.

I understand the desire for fans of a team to all dress the same, and convey the notion that by
doing so they will obscure, rob or wipe out the other team's powers of playing soccer. I even
understand branding such an effort, with blackout and whiteout being popular for such a purpose.
But Kansas City fans having a Blueout?

Today's match against Brazil doesn't feel different that any other game in terms of our approach.
We go out trying to win every time we step on the field. Clearly it's an important game for us.
Realistically, we need a win to stay alive.
The Italy game is behind us. We were frustrated not to get a result, especially since we felt like
we were playing very well prior to the red card.
