Following the collapse of a stadium that was 1,500 over capacity for Ivory Coast's World Cup
qualifier against Malawi in March, the head of the Ivory Coast Football Federation and another man,
who was responsible for ticketing at the match, have both been jailed.20 people died and over 130

World football's governing body FIFA on Wednesday fined Ivory Coast's football federation and
imposed crowd restrictions following a deadly stampede at Abidjan's main stadium last March. FIFA
have fined the Ivorian Football federation $4,7000 but has also donated $96,000 to a fund set-up
for the victims' families.

On March 29 this year before a CAF qualifier against Malawi, 22 fans died in a stampede trying
to get into the stadium and another 150 were injured.
In its wake FIFA just issued measures that would ensure better crowd control reducing the
seating capacity of Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan by approximately half to about 20,000
spectators.
