According to Sports Business Journal, the Philadelphia Union have sold their waterfront
stadium's naming rights to a local power company called Philadelphia Power & Lights (PPL). The deal
will be for 10 years, $20 million.
Not bad at all for the Union considering Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah was for roughly $1-2 million
a year for ten years.

We've heard for months now about the Houston Dynamo stadium being in downtown Houston next to
the baseball stadium there but now are the Dynamo looking elsewhere for their stadium?
Thanks to DyanmoPlanet.com for posting this earlier this morning (via ABC13 in Houston). The
club is now looking at another possible site near the Galleria in Houston.

Saw these photos (or stadium porn if you will) from Mark Fishkin earlier. Just wow. No doubt
this stadium is passing up Home Depot Center as the main soccer venue in this country.
Fishkin also points outs some really good things the Red Bulls are doing with this new
venue.

One team that we tendto forget from time to time when it comes to stadium discussions is the
Kansas City Wizards. Well we may be putting their stadium needs to rest soon enough. KansasCity.com
is reporting this evening that a final agreement for the stadium development is finally up for
consideration by Wyandotte County officials.

Thanks to the MLS Insider for taking this footage yesterday while in Philadelphia. I must say
this stadium has some serious potential to be one of the better ones in the league. What do you
think?

I'll admit at first I hated the idea of a MLS team in another big stadium but if this stadium up
in Vancouver really gets re-done like this it won't be a terrible thing at all.

We learned earlier this morning about Portland's stadium upgrades that will soon be coming but
what about their MLS expansion mates Vancouver? Well turns out they probably won't be playing in BC
Place right away in 2011 but instead will be in a temporary venue.
Instead they will (along with CFL side BC Lions) play at Empire Field's temporary stadium as
seen above.

Construction at new KC Stadium. (photo via Kansas City Wizards)
That sound you hear coming from Kansas City, Kansas is the sound of progress. Cheesy indeed but
good news either way for Wizards fans and fans of Major League Soccer in general.
The hard hats are out and the big yellow trucks are already moving dirt.

Rendering of the potential KC Wizards Stadium.
According to a report in the Kansas City Business Journal, the Kansas City Wizards have picked a
new location for their potential new home at the West Village in Kansas City, Kansas.
"Although the formal agreements have yet to be inked, we're confident enough in the pace and
direction that, starting next week, you'll begin to see yellow machines on site at Village West in
Kansas moving dirt, at our expense," Heineman wrote in the letter, posted on the Wizards' Web
site.

Even though the Red Bulls have been dreadful this year this whole Red Bull Arena thing really
makes me believe they could turn it around next year. Ok, that may be a long way to go from where
they are now but the more I see of Red Bull Arena with videos like this one below makes me think
there is hope for this club after all and they didn't lose every single fan after this season.

A lot of folks have been talking today and yesterday about some green stuff that is getting

Yesterday the first pieces of the grass playing surface were rolled out at the team's new $200
million stadium in Harrison, N.

officially be fitted with a retractable roof after the conclusion of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
According to the reports, the roof should still be finished in time for the start of the 2011

M&T Bank hosting the World Football Challenge this summer.
Talk about a potential shocker. Baltimore's mayor has sent a letter to the Maryland Stadium
Authority to look into possibly building a soccer stadium for DC United.
The city became a bit more interested in the project after this summer's soccer tour that saw a
game at the 71,000-seat M&T Bank Stadium for AC Milan and Chelsea.

First of all, sorry about last night and not having anything to discuss here. I honestly wasn't
feeling it and furthermore just wanted to relax and watch some of the games that were on. But I am
back tonight with a couple interesting items.
The first got me really thinking. Steve Davis, the Dallas writing genius that he is posted this
little diddy about the best stadiums in the league 2010 style.

I guess low expectations can sometimes yield good results. That may be the case this time around
with the new renderings and video of the proposed San Jose Earthquakes stadium that came out over
the weekend to supporter's in the Bay Area.
We knew going into the weekend that the renderings would be coming out and that the stadium
would lack a lot and I do mean a lot of bells and whistles.

Well, well it looks like the Kansas City Wizards' stadium is going to turn out to be a real nice

more up to date copies thanks to the wonderful work of The Back Post (a very good KC photo blog I
must say).

Almost the end of the week here as Friday gets closer by the second. Tonight I've got a couple
links and items to discuss. Pretty much they are all MLS based, with some reactions to stuff that
people wrote earlier in the day.
First up I want to get into a post that Steve Goff wrote earlier today about the lack of quality
on Tuesday night's FSC broadcast of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Some more tough news for San Jose Earthquake fans, your new stadium project is now getting put

Wolff says the club still needs $5 million in sponsorship to get project off the ground.

Some bit of good news for those wondering about the Houston Dynamo stadium situation. Yesterday
in a report by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the Dynamo stadium only has a couple minor
hurdles to clear before construction begins this fall.
Oliver Luck, president of the Major League Soccer team, says although he did not expect the deal
to drag out this long, he never believed the project would be derailed since serious discussions
began with the city 18 months ago.
