When Chicago Fire defender Cory Gibbs recently appeared on Windy City Live to promote the club's
new sponsorship deal with Quaker Oats, the most astute of supporters may have noticed something
different about his appearance: his jersey did had short sleeves.

Last year we debuted our first selection ever for "Person of the Year". The award went to the
German ad agency Nordpol+ for their roll in creating the brat train and under-the-seat kegs at St.
Pauli's (Germany) soccer stadium.
Beer and soccer indeed.
This year we're opening the award to out FBM community to decide.

- We offered our steamiest congrats to Barcelona's Victor Valdes, who received the Catalan

Always known for being a bit different (in a fun way), FC St. Pauli has released a video depicting
its players killing Santa Claus with a stray soccer ball during a training accident. Relegated from

The passing of Dennis Marshall didn't only affect Costa Rican players. It also affected
Marshall's teammates at Aalborg BK, and one American paid tribute to the late defender this
weekend.
Chris Rolfe honored his former teammate with the game-winning goal in Aalborg's home-opener, a
2-1 win versus AGF Aarhus.
Germany's second division started the season over the weekend and with it several National Teamers
Abroad clubs. Unfortunately for fans of Americans playing abroad, only one 2.Bundesliga American
saw playing time. Edson Buddle was a 76th minute substitute for Ingolstadt, losing 2-0 to St Pauli.
Fabian Boll scored both goals for St Pauli, opening the scoring in the 51st minute and finishing it
off in the 69th.

Most of the big European leagues are still in their preseasons, but that doesn't mean there
isn't a portion of the Americans Abroad already in action.
Clarence Goodson began his first full season with Brondby IF by starting and going the distance
in the club's 2-2 draw with Aalborg BK.
I suppose I should fear Rich's wrath in posting this (this may be my last post; in which case
"Toodels!"), but I want play devil's advocate regarding the shorts.
Perhaps it's just how I was raised, in an American sporting landscape where sports teams are
treated no different than a McDonalds, but the changing of uniforms is quite common.
This is Mike (AEK Baltimore). I haven't posted since our 2010/11 Europa League campaign came
to an end. But summer's here and its time for some summer reading suggestions for the thinking
