Sriwijaya Find Second Home And Join The Club

With Sriwijaya set to to host Persija later today at Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium the Palembang based football club become the latest team to have played a home game at two more stadiums during the Liga 1 season. Nothing new of course in Indonesia where a 'home' base is a pretty fluid concept for some clubs but this season does seem to be surpassing others in recent years.

Another Victory, Another Clean Sheet, Persija March On

Jakarta Casual at related • 0 views
Last night saw Persija defeat Sriwijaya 1-0 to climb up to 4th place in Liga 1, just four points behind leaders Madura United. The win was the fourth on the spin for the Macan Kemayoran and their sixth game unbeaten. A run of games that has seen them concede just one goal, that late equaliser against Mitra Kukar.

Persija coach Teco deserves massive respect for turning the team's fortunes around in recent weeks. Their 3-0 triumph 'away' to Perseru was their third win on the spin and the third consectutive game Andritany had kept a clean sheet. The turnaround contrasts sharply with their start to the season when they went six games without a win.

Sriwijaya, Persija Pick Up Valuable Away Points

Gresik United v PS TNI 0-0 12,300

Unfortunately this game was marred by a pitch invasion that held up proceedings for almost 20 minutes and left 50 fans needing treatment as marauding PS TNI fans went on the rampage.

The game itself wasn't too bad. In the first half especially South Korean Oh In Kyun was the wayang master for Gresik United but all too often the final delivery was woeful.

Persik's Mini Revival Hits Skids

It has certainly been a funny few days in the Indonesia Super League. Persik, for example followed their win over Persija, their first of the season, by thumping a strangely off colour Sriwijaya 5-1 at the Brawijaya Stadium.

Guy Bertrand gave them an early lead from the spot and a second Rendi Irawan Saputra made it 2-0 at half time.

Arema's narrow 3-2 win over Sriwijaya last night was enough to see the Crazy Lions move level on top of the Indonesia Soccer Championship with Persipura on goal difference with two games remaining but surely of great concern to the club management will be the poor attendance of 8,376.
A game between two of the heavyweights of the domestic should have drawn a far healthier crowd but the poor turn out is merely the continuation of the trend we have seen where despite their team's fine form the fans have in large part stayed away.

Last time out, it hosted current reigning champions Sriwijaya and defeated it quite comfortably 3-0 in front of another packed Mandala Stadium.

Which makes their choice of goalkeeper all themore remarkable.
