So many times he's saved us. The forward bursts through, draws back the hammer and pulls the
trigger, eyes not on the ball but on the expectant net only to find that in a whirl the object of
his desire has disappeared, swept away by the sweetest of tackles. No bone or muscle, it's the
timing that has defeated him.
Last night in the Missouri Comets' game against the Wichita Wings was the epitome of a back and
forth game. Neither team scored 2 goals in a row all night, and there was only one lead the entire
game that was more than 1 point. Unfortunately for the Comets though, the Wings ended up getting
the last goal and getting the 10-9 win in front of over 8,000 fans at the Sprint Center in downtown
KC.

For the tournament I'm doing Outside Pack Reffing. There's a minor problem with roller derby - it's
not that outside pack reffing isn't important; it's just that it could be said that the other
positions are just "more equal" than OPR - honestly, it's much like Assistant Referees in soccer;
when you have good OPRs things can go absolutely awesome, and the inside refs appreciate the heck
out of them and it can turn a well-reffed bout into an awesomely reffed-bout.
In spite of all the going on off the pitch at the moment I thought John Terry's performance against
Newcastle was outstanding.
It can't be easy for him to concentrate on games at the moment with everything going on but he
still gets out on that pitch and gives his everything for the win and a clean sheet.
Picture the scene...
You are a 15-year-old boy making your first Football League start in front of thousands and you
score your first senior goal against one of the top sides in the league to draw your side
level.
You sprint to celebrate with your family what must be the best feeling ever and it is spoiled
once again by the referee, who splays a yellow card in your face.
Goals:Adam 9' (pen)
Carroll 45+1'
A thorough, comfortable win, never in doubt after notching a second on the stroke of halftime, a
clean sheet easily kept away from Anfield.
Had Liverpool scored so early in their last league match, converting just one of the chances from
their fast start, we could have seen a similar result.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, can take away from the sheer, singular brilliance of Suarez's swirling
strike, but I wanted to highlight the contributions of those involved in the build-up, specifically
three off-the-ball runs and two cross-field passes. Mostly to ensure they don't get lost in the
utter majesty of the finish.

Following his Lazarus-like comeback and goal for Manchester City during the week, Owen
Hargreaves' rediscoverd strength in his legs seems to have worked its way up to his mouth.
The Canadian-born England man now claims that, during his injury-plagued time at United, he was
given treatments which may well have done him more harm than good.
I get miserable when Fulham aren't winning. The odd game is OK but the longer a winless run
continues the more I begin to brood on it. Pretty sure I'm not alone in that.
The Blackburn game was a chance to put everything right, start finding that missing 10%, that
final killer ball, that clinical finish in the box.
Ray Wilkins, now a Skysports Pundit, has spoken of his old club and the fact that all the attention
at the moment seems to be on Manchester.
Both sides up there have started the season well and have been impressive with their signings and
their form.
However, Wilkins believes that Chelsea's players will be more than happy to not be the focus of
attention and the underdogs this term.
Some people out there make me laugh harder than when I'm watching Harry Redknapp having a twitching
fit when S*urs are losing.
Many said Arsene Wenger needed to add to the squad and 'spend some fucking money' or Arsenal would
free fall into the Orpington and Bromley Division 5 Sunday league in no time.
I feel I have a responsibility to be completely truthful here. Last season was tough, really
tough but as with everything in life, it is now consigned to history, done and dusted and yes
whilst it is still fresh in the mind, our boys have this remarkable opportunity once again to
embrace the uphill challenge of competing for the title, competing in Europe's most prestigious
competition and defying the critics with dazzling displays of quite awesome football.
Today the Missouri Comets and Kansas City Command announced a partnership deal that on face value
looks like a good move for both sides. Both teams have their share of followers and sponsors, but a
coordinated effort between both of them actually will benefit them in the long run when it comes to
sponsorship dollars.
Playing arm in arm was never going to be anything other than annoying for all concerned If every
Thursday night in the Europa League proves to be as entertaining and one-sided as that, then TBFWHL
won't be complaining one jot.
For all the pre-match talk of Spurs being rusty after their delayed start to the season and
Tynecastle creating an intimidatory atmosphere to knock a patched up Spurs off their stride, Harry
Redknapp's men put their north-of-the-border opponents to the sword with a swashbuckling 5-0 win
that effectively killed the tie off as a contest, much in the same fashion as Tottenham's last
European game was over by the end of the first leg.

The Cy Young Award race in the American League is a three-man sprint. Justin Verlander (17),

A couple of years ago, when Brian was running his "Inner Life of ... " posts, I wrote to him to
suggest that this would be a good representation of the Inner Life of Fabio Cannavaro. Cannavaro
may be the calmest defender I've ever seen, and his on-pitch serenity stemmed directly from his
uncanny positional awareness.

Back in mid-June Tanzanian National Team player Mrisho Ngassa was announced as likely to come to
Seattle to trial with the Sounders. At the time General Manager and Minority Owner Adrian Hanauer
said that only the issue of paperwork (passport, visa, etc) was keeping the trial from occurring.
Those things are taken care of now, as Ngassa is leaving Tanzania today to begin his two week trial
according to the coach of Azam FC his club there.

Today: The Sprint Test.
The modern game is built on speed.
Quickness over the first 10, 20, & 30 meters is critical.
Be there first.
Pressure Makes Us.
Pre-tournament training for the U.S. WNT rolls on in the beautiful Austrian country-side and today
was the USA's combo weights/on field training, where half the team hits the weight room and half
does a field session before flip-flopping. It means a few trips for the bus driver, but also gets a
lot of work done for the WNT.
Please don't let us get in your way though feel free to call them something much worse if you
happen to find out that they have an opinion different than yours, because your opinion is the only
one that matters. People with different opinions are the enemy and must be convinced of their
wrongness, and the best way to do that is to USE CAPS WITH RECKLESS ABANDON.
- Steven Emil Cherundolo. Stand up and take a bow. On second thought, you look kinda tired dude,
just chill out for a minute. For my money, Dolo is the US MVP through three games at the Gold Cup.
Incredible runs down the right flank all game long, more breathlessly point-perfect crosses at full
sprint than I care to count, a sternness in defense that wiped off attack after attack, and
seemingly

Speaking to the News Of The World, Samir is impressed that Wayne Rooney is a challenger and
described him as 'archetype of the modern striker'. The 23-years-old Frenchman said:
What impresses the most about [Wayne Rooney] is his first touch, his ball
control.
Sheer, unbridled bliss. Quite a feeling this, one a certain Spaniard hadn't exactly been
familiar with since his January move to Chelsea Football Club. Not so much anymore.
We all experienced such a feeling Saturday afternoon. That's when our newest No. 9 opened his
account for the club. It's a moment many of us will not soon, if ever, forget.

It's time to pick a winner for the most recent edition of You Write the Caption. We received nearly
200 entries, though the quality of comedy wasn't up to the standard of past YWTC. We'll chalk that
up to rust from not having had a You Write the Caption in months.

When I sing the song "We're the boys in Red and White, and we're fucking dynamite", a number of
iconic players run through my mind. Rocky Rocastle, Anders Limpar, Marc Overmars, Freddy Ljungberg,
Robert Pires sprint through my inner thoughts, terrorising defences as they go.
There are certain things Arsene Wenger never does.
These include never inviting pube-scratching meat-head managers of opposition teams to sample
his fine claret after a game; never responding to chants of "Arsene Arsene give us a wave" with
anything other than the sort of brief, embarrassed arm-flick normally only used by teenagers
horrified to have bumped into their dad while out with their mates; and never subbing off a player
at half time when they're playing crap.

Michael Owen has reflected on the home derby last season when he scored an injury time winner to
beat City 4-3.
"Scoring the winner in the derby last season was one of those moments where the adrenaline
takes over and everything goes blank," Owen told the official site. "You literally have to
wait until you get home and watch the replay to see how you reacted.
The Seattle Sounders staff emails media (which includes a large swath of "new media" as well) a

were some guys that stepped up.
