Thanks to a "vacation" week to work on Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine, we're a few days behind in posting the Nielsen Audio ratings for the period Feb. 26-March 25.

As always, we start with 6 a.m. to midnight) among men 25-54, which is the key demographic for sports radio. KILT remains on top, but KBME had a slight bump from February, as did KFNC.

Yes, we've procrastinated again on the radio front, but only for a few days. So let's move quickly to the February ratings for Houston sports radio as determined by Nielsen Audio for the February book, which covers the period Jan. 29-Feb. 25.

Let's be honest with one another: the Shalrie Joseph trade to Chivas USA had nothing to do with the New England Revolution's 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City. This loss was about New England's poor play through the midfield, though.

So yesterday's Conference Finals were interesting. Not so much because they unexpected happened. In fact, I'd have pegged the Los Angeles Galaxy to beat Real Salt Lake any day and the Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City matches were pretty much up in the air. No, it's interesting for a couple of reasons:

The big soccer story on Monday was not an American soccer story. Rather, it was the battle for Manchester and the Premier League lead when Manchester City hosted Manchester United as the EPL nears the end of the 2011/2012 campaign.  Although the match took place in England, the significance of the game was evident in the United States, and that makes this proper fodder for a blog covering the business of American soccer.

I'm a fan of sports radio, particularly KJR-AM Seattle. I don't really hide that fact. It is a large foundation of how I blog and why I blog. It sculpted who I am and how I approach sports.

I worked there for a couple years. Mostly with David Locke, but also for John Clayton, Mitch Levy and just about every one else that was on the station from 99-01.
