Morning all, welcome to the blog.
By the time you read this, Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell will hold a testing session for his
players and a "midseason" review with the good fellows of Perth's sports media.
What that means, FP doesn't know, but presumably it won't be any different than the usual Glory
presser.

These guys are recently been listed as most influential journalists and bloggers for football
news. Tweet-ing has its benefits! I share the following article from puntersrealm.
Since Twitter recently released a list function, we thought it was time to share our
list of who we follow as the most influential (mostly European) sports journalists and bloggers in
world sport.

Thanks to Sports Media Watch for this nugget:

As much stick as American fans of football a/k/a soccer get from the mainstream sports media and
sports fan, I'm always shocked at how many fans of the Beautiful Game dismiss the women's game.
Those of us who take even a passing interest in women's football know it is not a gentle love fest.

"Shut up Fool!"
In the world of blogging and sports media, there is no art more refined and time tested than the
systematic ridicule of a poor performing sports team. When things start to go wrong, everyone from
the owner on down to the equipment managers can be a target for the criticism of those of us who
make our way in sports forming opinions and shouting them loudly from the hilltops.

This is why I don't subscribe to 24th Minute. Every time I go over there I see something that makes
me want to stab my eyes out. Most of the Canadian blogs, actually. Which is kind of sad. I mean,
most of them can write. It's just what's going on up their heads that's the problem.
Anyway, BA Duane with a rumination on the follies of the New York franchise, with commentary by
yours truly:
Just as Canadians hate that everything here is Toronto focused (and, say, that USL-1
championship final is overshadowed by TFC's attempt to sneak into the playoffs), Americans don't
much like to have it pointed out that it's important to have a presence in the New York
market.

This may come as very surprising news for fans of English football in the 21st century -
particularly with so many foreign names flooding our professional leagues from the Premiership all
the way down to League 2 - but it seems that even today, many young non European footballers are
still encountering serious difficulties in settling in at their new clubs here in the UK.

Today has been a quiet day around here I know. Other than a few twitter posts I've remained a
bit out of posting today. Blame it on slow news or blame it on me not wanting to jump on bad rumors
that are out there right now. I do have a couple items tonight to discuss but nothing too huge.
I wanted to start off in the land of college soccer.

Here's an odd and utterly shocking (to me) bit of media trivia: according to media blogs the
highest ever fee paid for movie rights to the New York Times is for a story about youth soccer in
suburban Atlanta. After a fierce bidding war between Hollywood studios spurred by Warren St.
John's Times cover article on "Outcasts United" – a team of refugee youth in the small town of
Clarkston, Georgia called the Fugees – Universal ultimately paid $3 million to the Times, to
St.

One of the challenges of following the Red Bulls in New York is the mainstream sports media's lack
of team coverage. In a down year like this one, compounded with shrinking staffs at the city's
daily papers, regular news about NYRB is scarce, and getting scarcer. The New York Times has
stopped sending reporters to home matches years ago, choosing to pick up wire reports instead.

We've seen a big jump in soccer talk in mainstream sports media over the last few days. Big
reason is not just the results on the field by the US over world powers like Spain and the
toe-to-toe final against Brazil but it is due to the average sports guy/gal gaining more respect
for soccer as a whole.

I loved Pim singing the national anthem on Fox Sports tonight and I've loved the openness of the
guy throughout the campaign.
Pim's got us to the World Cup through Asia. He's planned it right and got the maximum out of our
players. Brilliant.
It's great to have a leader of the national team who you can admire, and for me, you might not
always agree with his tactics, but he's got a certain dignity, a certain sincerity and he takes no
crap from the immature Aussie sports media.

This won't be new to many of you, but I absolutely love the Guardian's "Seven Deadly

revision of the work of a fourth-century monk called Evagrius the Solitary.
