Liverpool is closing in on a £3.5million deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori. Sportsmail revealed last month that Brendan Rodgers was stepping up interest in the young Portuguese who had been identified a year earlier by club scouts. However, the 20-year-old's valuation has quadrupled since that first recommendation after he broke into Sporting's first team and established himself as one of their most consistent performers.

The first major steps in enforcing the upcoming Financial Fair Play regulations has occurred, with Uefa withholding prize money owed to 23 clubs competing in European competition in 2012-13.
Portuguese starlet Joao Carlos Teixeira made his first appearance in a red shirt when he appeared
during the U18s' friendly 8-1 win over Exeter on Saturday morning.
The midfield playmaker, who arrived at the Academy from Sporting Lisbon, enjoyed a 25 minute
run-out in the second half.
The Portuguese youth international didn't feature for the Academy last term because of a niggling
back problem, but now fully fit, he is set to be a regular in Kirkby this season.
