Sporting Kansas City ended their preseason on a sour note, falling in their final game in Tucson, Arizona to New York City FC 1-0. Peter Vermes put out a lineup that would likely be considered extremely close to the 11 that will take the field next weekend in DC. The big absence from the team was forward Dom Dwyer who had a minor knock.

Sporting KC got their first win of their preseason yesterday against the New York Red Bulls 3-0. With the Red Bulls facing off against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday all of New York's starters have returned to New York to prepare for that game. That left the Red Bulls lineup with end of the roster players, trialists, and unsigned draft picks to take on Sporting KC.

Game of the year - Comets vs Mustangs 12/3/16 - Shutouts don't happen often in indoor soccer, since the Kansas City Comets rebirth back in 2010, the Comets had never had one. That changed in December of this year when the Comets defeated the previously unbeaten Chicago Mustangs 6-0 at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

As first reported by Steve Goff, D.C. United and US Men's national team goalkeeper Bill Hamid had surgery on his right knee on Monday. We can further confirm that Hamid had arthroscopic surgery on the knee, which he aggravated during preparations for the national team camp.

MLS Release Home Openers, Sporting Have Three Games Announced

MLS today announced the home openers for all 22 MLS teams, and with that we know three of Sporting KC's games to start the season.
Sporting KC will once again open the season on the road, starting against DC United at RFK Stadium on March 4th with a 6pm kick off. The game should be the last game KC ever plays in the stadium where they won MLS Cup 2000 as DC United is scheduled to open their new stadium in 2018 and KC's next road trip to DC won't come until the 2019 season.

Defender Colton Storm, of Mechanicsburg, was drafted by Sporting Kansas City with the 14th overall pick out of the University of North Carolina.

Sporting KC made a single move in Thursday's second stage of the re-entry draft, selecting goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra formerly of DC United. Sporting KC will now has the rights to make a bona fide offer to Dykstra over the next seven days.

Dykstra is a eight year MLS veteran having played with the Chicago Fire and DC United in career along with stints on loan to the Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers.

Storm started all 21 games for UNC in his senior season this past year, recording three assists for the Tar Heels as they went 14-3-4. He scored two goals and had seven assists in his career.

Another set of stats to update, this time it is landmark goals. In 2016, Sporting KC hit two landmarks with Graham Zusi scoring Sporting's 900th league goal and Jacob Peterson scoring the 1,100th across all competitions for KC. Looking at the numbers I'm not sure that KC is going to hit any milestones this coming season though, the closest they are to any right now, is KC's league goals away from home, where they're currently 29 goals away.

Palmer-Brown had been the first to go on loan, leaving Sporting KC for Portuguese power, Porto. Palmer-Brown quickly slotted himself into Porto's reserve team in the Portuguese second division and made 11 appearances for them as they won the second division championship.
