Chalk up another win for the Los Angeles Galaxy
Only this one wasn't just for them, it perhaps was an important win for MLS as well. Despite
massive offers from numerous European clubs, David Beckham officially chose to remain in the United
States, agreeing to new multi-year contract with the Galaxy that keeps the famed midfielder in Los
Angeles through the 2013 MLS season.
We continue our new series on the Free Beer Movement. It's called "Brews and Views" and we pose a
question or topic to various prominent soccer persons and, well, they give us their view on it.

In a heartening new development from across the pond, it has emerged that the fast-growing MLS
has now taken the game to new heights in the US. New reports now put soccer as the third-best
attended sport in America, ahead of stalwarts such as the NBA and NHL.
Major League Soccer has surpassed the NBA and NHL in attendance and is now the third-most attended
professional sport in America on a per-game basis.

Soccer Blossoming in the USA
Now we are moving into the last game of the MLS calendar, it feels fitting that we reflect on
another successful year for the Major league soccer. I will be looking into their current stature
with the other big four sports in america and where i think they need to go for them to expand and
grow bigger.
Soccer has come a long way in America, but the MLS can still not compete with the excitement and
fan devotion that exists in the foreign leagues. Part of soccer-s problem in America is that it is
not popular; the majority of the stadiums are empty when MLS games are being played. This does not
mean the MLS lacks quality and skilled players; there are many high-quality players, and during the
off-season they often find themselves playing for teams in Europe.
Turn your clocks back around the early 2000's and you'll find Major League Soccer on the verge of
extinction. Teams folding, weak crowds and a marketing campaign that was clearly in disarray. Even
on the backs of the United State's impressive 2002 World Cup run, MLS was a bit lost. Recently
though, MLS has gone through a resurrection.
SEATTLE – Since the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers inaugurated Major League Soccer's
Cascadia Cup rivalry on Saturday night, fans and journalists alike have been proclaiming that the
game was revolutionary for soccer in the United States. However, it may have just illuminated yet
again why soccer is not the biggest sport here.
