Liverpool Kop 15 November @ 09:01 AM EST
Dirk Kuyt's supporters are always trying to convince everyone he deserves his place in the team
because he's so 'hard-working', has 'endless stamina' and gives his all for the team. Well, that
may be the case but as I will illustrate, Rafa Benitez's continued favouritism for the player has
had - and is having - a negative impact on Liverpool FC's attacking effectiveness.

FC Boro 08 November @ 07:29 AM EST
Stevenage made it into the draw for the second round of the FA Cup after a superb performance up
at Port Vale. Boro dominated the game in long spells and were unlucky not to win the game
comfortably. Vale looked poor and I think underestimated the task ahead of them. Boro manager
Graham Westley will be delighted with his side's performance after ripping the League 2 club apart
for the majority of the game, but will be frustrated that missed chances again cost his side
winning away from home for the second weekend in a row.

Arsenal ace Robin van Persie is convinced they're in the title hunt.
Van Persie is insisting the north London outfit have learned from mistakes they have made in the
past and are ready to reclaim their standing at the summit of English football.
"We're very encouraged by other teams dropping points," he said, with Arsenal currently sitting
fourth in the Premier League table and holding a game in hand on all of the sides above them.

OK, I was pleasantly surprised. I went to this game with no expectations whatsoever and to be fair
if you had to choose a Malaysia Cup tie to see this wouldn't have been on the list but it was all I
had and it weren't bad.
The first 45 minutes were goaless before the visitors took the lead right on half tme with a sweet
half volley from the edge of the area.

Wow, a triple threat. A futbol movie, about Leed's United (my favorite former EPL team, now
leading the 1st Division and primed to return!) and a great story. It's been covered by NPR and is
receiving special screenings on both coasts. I've put in a request to my favorite indie theater,
The Moxie, to find out if they'll be bringing the film to our area.

Wheel of Fortune
The 2008/09 season has been a mixed bag for Lewes FC to say the least. The club have been beset by
off the field problems (mainly financial) on almost a weekly basis. There are reasons to be
cheerful down at the Dripping Pan though and for now let's dwell on the positives.

Arshavin and Fabregas were once again in imperious form for their club as The Gunners dismantled
Blackburn Rovers at The Emirates Stadium this afternoon. Arsenal ran riot in the second half
against a Blackburn side low in confidence and suffering inconsistent form in the league this
season. The home team once again produced some spells of incredibly stylish flowing football that
can only be associated with this Arsenal side - who have become widely recognised as the most easy
on the eye team in English football today.

Guingamp suffered another disappointing defeat last night at the hands of Nimes.
EAG have failed to win in the league since late August and worse still have only managed 1 goal
in the 5 games previous to last nights game.
Guingamp enjoyed large spells of dominance over Nimes but the teams inability to score goals
means the club travel back home empty handed.

The 2009 U-20 World Cup began with high expectations for Team USA. With twelve professional
players, and withdrawals and extenuating circumstances elsewhere the US looked a sure bet to make
noise.
Now, the US must count on other results to continue in the competition. The US has advanced to
the knock out stages of six consecutive U-20 World Cups, but making a seventh is now in severe
doubt.

In the most recent post on our blog, Aaron fires a right cross at Manchester City manager Mark
Hughes, who apparently is still sobbing in his pillows over losing the Manchester Derby on Sunday
because there was "too much stoppage time."
Forget that I completely disagree with him, and yes, I'm biased.

No-one could argue that on the balance of play over the course of the game that we deserved a
point, but having hauled ourselves back into the game on three seperate occasions, it is galling to
say the least to come away empty handed and the sense of frustration will definitely take time to
subside.
Much has already been written about the amount of injury time that was played, and yes it did
appear excessive, but to play devils advocate a little here, it did also allow ourselves the
opportunity to grab a winner.

Some people wanted a defender and a striker brought in in the summer, it looks like we got both
in one Thomas Vermaelen.
Two fantastic goals, his third and fourth of the season for us pretty much secured the three
points in a game where we were brilliant one minute and infuriatingly sloppy the next.

I wish to thank Paul Scholes for saving my television set. His looping header prevented it from
exploding because of all the incessant whistling and other indescribable noises that the Besiktas
fans were making up until that point. Not that it stopped after his goal, because the silence
lasted for all of 15 seconds because the Besiktas fanatics found their voices and sore throats
again.

If you were your country's top scorer with a healthy 35 goals in 73 appearances, chances are
you'd be an established top league player in most countries in Europe. Add to that record a career
that has seen you start out at Manchester United and take in spells at Leeds United, Sunderland and
Fulham, you'd expect a pretty good record.
