With Southampton coming from behind at Leyton Orient today for a 2-2 draw, the Saints haven't lost
a game in their last 5 in League One. In fact, Alan Pardews squad has only lost once in their last
10. Does Southampton have a chance at making the playoffs despite starting out with a 10 point
deficit?

One of the greatest soap opera returns to television screens on Friday and it will provide us
fans with the characters that will love and the ones we love to hate. No this is not Eastenders or
Coronation Street it's the Football LEAGUE!
The three Coca-Cola leagues, that are arguably the most competitive leagues in the world, are
packed with teams all eager to hit the ground running at the weekend.

A couple of months ago, Southampton Leisure Holdings, the holding company which owns Southampton
Football Club went into administration. There was a brief and ineffectual protest from Southampton
FC based upon the argument that this particular holding company wasn't the same as the football
club, and that they shouldn't, therefore, face any sanctions from the Football League.

Mark Fry, the administrator in charge of Southampton FC is a very important chap nowadays.
The saga to save the Saints seems to have taken many twists with a number of mysterious groups
all ready for an 11th hour bid. But who are they?
Why does Mark Fry keep giving Matt Le Tessier's Pinnacle group extensions when they fail to
submit bid documents?

I haven't written much about one of my favorite teams, Southampton. But if you haven't heard things
are looking dire for the right now. With 2 games left they're on they need at least a win and tie,
and really 2 wins, to have a chance at avoiding relegation to League One (division 3). That in
itself is pretty bad.

Southampton FC are reporting that defender Kyle Davies is returning to America after agreeing a
four-year deal with MLS side Real Salt Lake. Southampton only had a contract with Davies until the
end of the season so enabling the young defender to return to the USA, Southampton were able to
make something out of the deal.

U.S. youth international Kyle Davies has opted to continue his career in the United States, leaving
Southampton FC to sign a deal with Major League Soccer, multiple sources are confirming this
afternoon. As is league policy, a weighed lottery was held to determine which team will own his
rights, with Real Salt Lake chosen as the lucky winner.

I noticed today that not only has Southampton's official web site's RSS been broken for the last 3
weeks, if you actually try viwing it's RSS feeds at it's site (http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/rss) right
now you just see the naked PHP code used to build them. Oi vey! A horrible security risk. Is the
club really so low on funds that they can't be bothered to fix this?

Southampton heads north to London to play QPR today. Saints have a single win with 3 loses in their
first 4 games. It's not an encouraging start even for Saints fans who don't have high hopes for
this season.
QPR have a few knocks and we should expect a few new faces since their last game, a 1-1 tie with
high flying Bristol City.

Blackpool travels to St. Mary's to take on Southampton. The two clubs barely avoided relegation
from the Championship (Div. 2) last year, both finishing with 54 points. Leicester was the 3rd to
bottom team, the bottom 3 were relegated, with 52 points.
Can McGoldrick continue his scoring ways? Will we see Stern John get a start up front with
McGoldrick?

Before we press on with other matters, here's a final word on the subject of football kits.
Just before the current domestic football season started here in the UK, we carried out some
research to see which kit manufacturers were the most popular among the 92 league clubs, and duly
compared our findings to those of last year.

Southampton racked up a second win in the Carling Cup. Last week they beat Exter. Yesterday they
beat fellow Championship club Birmingham 2-0 at St. Mary's. Lee Holmes and Adam Lallana scored for
Saints.
Southampton landed young Tottenham forward Tomas Pekhart on loan for the year. I'm not a huge
fan of this move.

One game down, forty-five to go as far as the 24 teams in the Championship is concerned, but what
did the opening weekend of fixtures tell us? Many regard Doncaster's 1-0 win at Derby as the
performance of the weekend, but that's only working on the assumption that Rovers were playing
League One football last [.

Southampton travel to Cardiff Saturday to kick off their 3rd consecutive season in England's 2nd
division. Yes, yes, I know it's called the Championship. But that's just a new label the marketers
slapped on the old 2nd division.
Saint's new Dutch manager Jan Poortvliet says the team will be ready.

In the lead up to the 08-09 season, Southampton traveled 20 miles up the road where they defeated
Salisbury City 3-0. There were even a couple dozen fans of both teams that managed to create
trouble and end up in jail (more here). Jason Euell, Bradley Wright-Phillips and David McGoldrick
scored for Saints.

Southampton's pre-season starts tonight at Farnborough. The soap opera over Jan Poortvliet is over
with Rupert Lowe having finally officially getting his man. Now the real work begins.
Poortvliet was quick to let 6 players leave St. Mary's. Inigo Idiakez, Alexander Ostlund, Darren
Powell, Mario Licka, Jermaine Wright and Josh Dutton-Black have all been allowed to leave on a
free.

Saints still have not come to terms for hiring Jan Poortvliet as their new manager. Their inability
to do this doesn't install confidence in me that Lowe's return is bringing much change.
On top of it Southampton is implementing a lot of minor cost cutting measure. Well, minor as
long as your not the long time kitman losing their job.

As Saints fans remember all too well, it was only a couple weeks ago they were escaping relegation
on the last game of the season. Somehow when they were playing at The Dell and pulling off a last
second miracle it's a romantic feat. When it's a relatively big club that just a few years ago was
in UEFA and playign for the FA Cup flailing to avoid the drop to League One (div.

That was the headline over at the Times Online. Southampton were on the verge of being relegated to
Div. 3 (sorry, I'm in no mood this morning for the fancy name the marketers ) for the first time
since 1960.
Saints destiny was not in their own hands. Going into today they were tied with Leicester on 51
points.

The rumors and reports are running wild with talk about Rupert Lowe along with Michael Wilde are
teaming up to make a bide for Southampton. Southampton needs new capital but just as much it needs
an injection of new blood in it's front office. Having Dumb and Dumber, as many Saints fans refer
to Lowe and Wilde, won't lead to much in terms of new capital (the 2 already control 46% and while
not poor aren't sugar daddies that can invest tens of millions of pounds into the club).

Southampton's been having injury problems all season and lately the goalkeepers got the bug. Poke's
been starting as Davis and Bialkoswki have had injuries. Saints just picked up West Ham's Richard
Wright on a one-month loan. Nothing to get too excited about but it should ensure the team isn't
screwed if Poke picks up a knock before Davis returns to fitness.

Just when I thought the Rapids were showing a bit too much desperation in their quest to sign
Scottish striker Tam McManus, Southampton turns around and outdoes them with bringing Michael "Not

brief goal scoring streak while at Bolton many, many moon ago.

Nigel Pearson got his first win with Southampton today at St. Mary's. It seemed like Saints were
headed toward yet another tie, their 5th in a row in league play and one that would've left them
3rd from bottom (relegation!!!). But Stern John scored his 16th of the year and Saints got all 3
points, 1-0, against fellow relegation candidates Leicester.

I've been trying to write about Southampton more often lately. I really do follow them a lot; I
just haven't written much about them. Unfortunately it looks like there will be plenty to write
about between their relegation fight and, most recently, the fact that Bradley Wright-Philips (yes,
Shaun Wright-Philips' little brother) and Nathan Dyer were busted stealing up in Portsmouth.

It's the same old story with Southampton yesterday. Again they played well under Nigel Pearson .
But the defense again let the team down allowing Blackpool to score twice in five minutes early in
the 2nd half. Luckily for Southampton Stern John equalized in the 63, raising his goal total to 15
in league play.

As a Saints fan it's good to see the club putting to an end the ill-advised Dodd & Gorman
managerial partnership. I'm sure it was meant to be temporary but with all the forewarning they had
of Burley's departure, they didn't seem to be making much of any progress on replacing him. There
was a lot of speculation lately that they wouldn't be filling the role until this summer.

Salisbury City manager Nick Holmes has said that he is 'flattered' to be linked to the vacant
managers position at Southampton. He says that the one thing he would bring to the club above other
candidates is his love of the club. Whilst not saying that he was interested in the position the
Whites' manager certainly didn't dismiss the speculation.

I got to listen to the Saints game yesterday morning. Unfortunately I didn't listen closely since I
was dealing with work stuff (I was on-call) and then dozed off at some point in the 2nd half. I was
happy that they had won 2-0. But they were at home and Leicester had only won 1 of their previous
10 games.

Some may label this as a shakeout after Wilde, Lowe and others rejected SISU's bid (original bid
info, here). I'm not sure it's that simple. It's clear that the Chairman Dulie, Hone and Oldknow
were brought in to a get a deal done. With SISU's offer withdrawn as they've now purchased Coventry
and with no other known courters, they had failed at their task.

Southampton handled Hull, Jay-Jay Okocha's current club, this morning beating them 4-0. Stern
John had a hat trick for the Saints. After Tuesday 0-0 draw at Wednesday at St. Mary's and last
weekends 2-1- win at Leicster, Saints find themselves 3 points out a playoff spot. 2 shutout in a
row and 1 goal allowed in 3 games may not seem like something to be excited over but Southampton is
a squad literally devoid of defenders that can play right now.

It's too bad that Kenwyne Jones wants to leave Southampton. He's still only 22 and has a lot to
