Steven Pienaar – SAFA 2009 Player of the Year

Bafana Bafana and Everton FC midfielder Steven Pienaar has been named the 2009 Bafana Bafana Player of the Year.
The announcement was made at a glittering ceremony on Thursday night (19 November 2009) at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Among others in attendance were the Minister of Justice Jeff Radebe as well as the 2002 Brazil World Cup squad winning captain Cafu.

According to bbc news Motoaki Inukai, the president of the Japan Football Association (JFA), wants the noisy vuvuzela trumpet to be banned from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

And to add insult to this sign of cultural intolerance, when asked for his thoughts on the subject after Saturday's stalemate, Japan coach Takeshi Okada responded dryly: "Perhaps if they play good football (the fans) will be quiet and watch.

Maybe the "weakened" Jamaica was a better opponent for South Africa, because Bafana Bafana managed to play forward although they were held to a goalless draw at Vodacom Stadium on Tuesday.

That means the 2010 World Cup hosts have now scored just six goals in their last 12 internationals.

At Half-time the Orlando Stadium was in the dark , then the the Lamontville Golden Arrows lit up the Soweto night with their 6-0 drubbing of Ajax Cape Town in the MTN8 Wafa Wafa Finals.

The goals were scored by a Njabulo Manqana brace, Richard Henyekane, Thokozani Msheng, Nhlanhla Zothwane and an own goal from unfortunate Ajax defender Deniss Ivanovs.

Carlos Alberto Parreira is the new coach for the South African National Soccer Team. After two weeks of rumours and denials, the South African Football Association (SAFA) made the announcement just after 7pm at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg.
