After reeling off two wins in three matches last week, both against the Chicago Fire, the Philadelphia Union were given an additional boost this week with the news that Jeff Parke is fully fit.

Parke went down with a hamstring strain in the Union's 2-2 draw with the Seattle Sounders on May 4, forcing him out of the team's last three matches.

Jeff states the injury occured in the 25th minute, and Logan toughed it out until the 44th minute when Patrick Nyarko replaced him.

Union Fall 3-1 to the Chicago Fire

I left PPL Park tonight having scored just as many goals as the Philadelphia Union had scored against the visiting Chicago Fire (and even against Montreal last week), none. Don't get me wrong the Union did get a goal in the 34th-minute off a nice, arcing cross from Freddy Adu to Chandler Hoffman, but it deflected off Chicago defender Jalil Anibaba, past keeper Sean Johnson and into the back of the net for an own goal.

Grading Frank Klopas on his international signings with the transfer window open

Hot Time In Old Town at related • 0 views

January 18, 2012 will mark Frank Klopas' 4th full year as technical director for the Chicago Fire. The club has enjoyed a roller coaster ride, from the highs of cup finals to the lows of missing the Playoffs. In this time, Klopas has been responsible for signing players both foreign and domestic. With the transfer window opening in the past couple of days, I believe an examination of the Fire's international signings under Klopas is important, especially considering that the search for international talent for the 2012 season is well under way.

Part of the brilliance of the Africa Cup of Nations is the way it puts the diverse stories of the continent on vivid display. Consider, for example, the contrasts in the tournament opener on January 10th when host Angola plays Mali. Angola's story is one of hope for the future—having only recently emerged from a 27 year civil war after decades of Portuguese colonialism, Angola is flush with natural resources, one of the fastest growing economies in the world, four glistening new soccer stadiums built by Chinese friends, and immense potential both on and off the pitch.
