The U.S. Men's National Team last faced Canada in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, but it's been more
than 13 years since the teams met on Canadian soil. With the U.S. and Canada set to face each other
in Toronto at 7 p.m. ET on June 3, we took a look at the history between the sides and found some
interesting facts.
When Chicago Fire defender Cory Gibbs recently appeared on Windy City Live to promote the club's
new sponsorship deal with Quaker Oats, the most astute of supporters may have noticed something
different about his appearance: his jersey did had short sleeves.
"I love my long-sleeves," said Gibbs during a recent interview with Hot Time in Old Town.
U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra steps on the field for the 100th time today representing the United
States, and the 54th time as captain. He becomes the 12th MNT player in history to achieve this
milestone. It's truly a proud day for one of the best all-around guys ever to play for the USA.
In honor of the occasion, ussoccer.

Of all the people on the train, the one I wanted to talk to the most was the middle-aged man
with the graying goatee, traveling with wife and two children. He and his son were wearing Chelsea
jerseys. It's not rare to see folks around Chicago in soccer gear, but considering this train and
most of its occupants were heading toward Soldier Field, where Manchester United were to take on
the Chicago Fire, those two bold blue shirts stuck out.

The Fire played a good, competitive match yesterday against one of the world's best teams. In
fact, they actually controlled large parts of the first half and hung in there in the 2nd half to
put in a valiant effort. It was great to see Soldier Field so full for a game that involved the
Fire (61,308 officially in attendance).

The Chicago Fire weren't favored against Manchester United, especially after the English Premier
League side drubbed the Seattle Sounders 7-0 just three days ago.
Still, some of the Fire players felt like they let one slip away after they lost 3-1 to Manchester
United at Soldier field.

The Chicago Fire could not have asked for a better start against the Premier League's Manchester
United on Saturday.
They earned an early goal in front of a packed Soldier Field crowd and left a good early impression

The game against Manchester United kicks off in less than 4 hours. Tune into ESPN 2 or ESPN

With Manchester United coming to town tomorrow, Saturday, July 23, at 4:00 PM CST to take on the
Chicago Fire at Soldier Field, we exchange three questions with Gene Um of The Busby Babe. If you
aren't headed to Soldier Field, you can catch the game on ESPN2 or ESPN Deportes. Gene's answer to
my first question is below and the other five questions in the exchange are after the break.
Chicago's season has not gone according to plan. Still, the Fire are looking forward to their match
with Manchester United tomorrow for many reasons. Not only is the team excited to take on a world
soccer power, but they're using this as a chance to take a break from MLS action and regroup. Enjoy
the moment.
Whether MLS coaches like it or not, another full wave of friendlies packs the weekend schedule,
with games involving European teams taking place in five North American cities.
Four of the games are part of the World Football Challenge, as high-profile teams Manchester
United, Real Madrid and Manchester City continue their tours of America.
For the second consecutive game, Manchester United tore an MLS team apart in the second half to
run out comfortable winners.
Last week United scored four goals in the second half to beat the New England Revolution 4-1 and
last night they scored six (yes 6!) second half goals to beat the Seattle Sounders 7-0.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- Chicago Fire midfielder Patrick Nyarko and forward Dominic Oduro exemplify the
type of international draw that Manchester United has.
The Ghanaian duo has followed Man U's brand of soccer since they were kids. And like tens of
millions of other Red Devils fans, they have appreciated everything from afar.

And it has cast a long shadow, as Associated Press Writer Nancy Armour points out:

watching from the stands and imagining what it would be like to be on that field with Mia Hamm and
Michelle Akers and Julie Foudy and Brandi Chastain.

It appears Toronto FC is trying to do everything it can to ensure it has a better second half of
the season.
After signing a pair of designated players in Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans nearly two
weeks ago, Toronto FC acquired midfielder Terry Dunfield in a trade with the Vancouver Whitecaps on
Thursday.

If Wesley Sneijder is on the verge of joining Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has his best
poker face on.
Amid reports that Manchester United is close to signing Sneijder, Ferguson denied the deal,
stating that he doesn't believe Inter Milan is ready to sell the Dutch international.

HOUSTON, Texas - As Honduras applied most of the pressure towards the end of regulation of its
semifinal match against Mexico on Wednesday night, there was a growing sense that maybe the U.S.
men's national team would not face its most bitter rival in the Gold Cup final afterall.

Round three of the group stage, the last round of the group stage, in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup
began at Soldier Field in Chicago last night with Mexico facing Costa Rica and El Salvador playing
Cuba.
Cuba has proven to be the whipping boy of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, but the little team from the
baseball island did manage to score a goal last night thanks to Yenier Márquez who put the ball
past the keeper in the 82nd minute.
Mexico finished the group stage of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup with three wins from three matches
following Sunday night's 4-1 win over Costa Rica at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL. The dominant
Mexicans went 4-0 up within 38 minutes on goals from Rafael Márquez (17′), Andrés Guardado (19'
and 26′) and Pablo Barrera (38').
The 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup kicked off with not just a singular bang but two very loud booms on

Pappa coming back to the Fire after the break.
Imagine one of the key stone players for a club becoming its General Manager. He would be a
decent to good player in the League, and acquire talent that many others would not recognize over a
decade after his retirement. Then while the Chicago Fire are in a deep funk with only 4 points in
last five and win-less since match day two, he fires the head coach and takes over the coaching
reigns?
The kick-off time for the Manchester United vs. Chicago Fire game at Soldier Field has been
switched from 7:00 PM CST to 4:00 PM CST. I'm not sure I like that change for a game scheduled on
Saturday, July 23. Major League Soccer tries to avoid day summer games for a reason. The organizers
of the World Football Challenge were the ones that ordered the switch.
