This January's Arsenal transfer news was relatively quiet at the Emirates Stadium, with Thierry
Henry returning to the club on loan from New York Red Bulls and German teenager Thomas Eisfeld
arriving from Borussia Dortmund for a modest fee.
However, activity has not always been this sedate at Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger making some
surprising and at times, blockbuster signings in January.

The buzz is Didier Drogba will be joining his Chelsea compatriot Nicholas Anelka in the Chinese
Super League this summer for a whopping £270,000 a week. That kind of money for three years will
amount to a nice retirement nest egg. Drogba has become an after thought with Roman Abramovich
rooting for Fernando Torres to succeed so he can justify spending an £50m giveaway, the largest in
sporting history.
Frustration is boiling over at the Emirates- an underperforming squad has started 2012 in a well
documented poor fashion.
Sadly the return of the King Thierry Henry has been tarnished by some mindless fans at Swansea
on Sunday aggravating the Frenchman.
The Gunners have now lost two league games on the bounce and languish well behind their title
rivals and crucially are four points behind Chelsea in forth.
Thierry Henry has agreed to rejoin Arsenal on a two-month loan deal from New York Red Bulls, Arsene
Wenger has confirmed.
The former Gunners captain, who left the club for Barcelona in 2007, has been training at London
Colney during the Major League Soccer off-season and has impressed Wenger who is looking for
short-term cover while Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh are away on Africa Cup of Nations Duty.
Given Arsene did his whole, 'I don't know what you're talking about routine', when questioned about
the potential return of Thierry Henry in the press conference on Friday, I would be very surprised
if we do not announce that we are re-signing Thierry on a two-month loan-deal very soon, probably
in the first week of January.
Good morning to you. I hope you're all set for tomorrow, dinner wrapped, presents cooked, and
all that.
The action continues though and as we prepare for our festive football fare the manager is
mulling (eh? EH?!) over some possible recruitments as our squad, already quite stretched, gets set
to lose a couple more players.
England face Sweden at Wembley tonight in what the FA would describe as another ‘vital' friendly.
But look into the history of the two nations and one statistic jumps out: England cannot beat those
Swedes! It was a friendly at Wembley on May 22, 1968, when we last recorded a win over them. Since
then, [.

Why managers must start disowning their own over vile chants
Here's a quiz. Read these quotes, then answer the question, "When is sick chanting by morons
worthy of condemnation by managers?" October 2008: Fratton Park. Portsmouth's Sol Campbell is given
dog's abuse by Spurs fans and his manager Harry Redknapp says: "It's a disgrace.

By Tony Attwood In 2008 Hampshire police announced the investigating of racial and homophobic abuse
directed by Tottenham fans towards Sol Campbell at a Portsmouth v Tottenham game. The police said
they would report the matter to the Football Association because it was not possible to make
arrests due to the sheer numbers chanting.
Having been a proud shelfside season ticket holder from the tender age of six, dating back to
the somewhat successful (for the Gerry Francis era) 1994-95 season, my first Spurs game must have
been a 2-0 home win against Everton off the back of 'that' game away at Sheffield Wednesday.
'That' game saw the introduction of perhaps Spurs' greatest ever player, and in turn the
introduction of a goal celebration that had mum's all over the country fuming and 'Vanish' and
'Daz' shareholders laughing all the way to the bank.

Alan Shearer doesn't see Newcastle owner Mike Ashley changing his frugal ways at Newcastle
anytime soon. Alan Shearer that's how Ashley operates The net spending at the club over the
summer was a big net zero, with these permanent ins and outs at the club: OUT Sol Campbell released
Shefki Kuqi released Kevin Nolan £4.
When Andy Carroll left Newcastle United back in January the fans were told that all of the £35

- Mehdi Abeid (Free transfer)
- Davide Santon (Undisclosed thought to be about £5 million)

Arsène Wenger will be feeling very sad tonight. Not just the sadness you feel when you're
disappointed with yourself, but a certain sadness trailed by the desperation and helplessness of
knowing you're in a corner and you may well have put yourself there.

Morning to you, last night I was out celebrating the Mugsmasher's birthday even though his
birthday was last Sunday and we already went out and had some pints for it. What can I tell you? He
loves a good celebration and lord knows the football has barely provided him with anything in the
last few years.
The New York Cosmos will take to the field for the first time in more than 25 years, doing so at
Old Trafford as Manchester United's opponent for the Paul Scholes Testimonial (2:30 p.m., Fox
Soccer Channel).
The Cosmos, who will be coached by former United star and current Cosmos director of soccer Eric
Cantona, will be featuring the likes of Brad Friedel, Brian McBride, Patrick Vieira, Gary Neville,
Robbie Keane, Sol Campbell, Fabio Canavarro, Michel Salgado, Dwight Yorke, Wayne Bridge, Robert
Pires and Nicky Butt along with members of the organization's U-23 team.

Welbeck, Macheda, Diouf.
From what I can recall, at the start of last season, Newcastle United were seemingly going about
their pre-season in reasonably quiet fashion. We had of course, just dispensed of the Championship
at a canter, and were looking forward to a return to the Premier League. At the start of that
particular summer, we had [.

Scholes will be playing in his final match for Manchester United, ending one of the most
impressive careers in the club's storied history, and the New York Cosmos is putting together a
star-studded squad to face Scholes and United in that final match.

Last night, during Manchester United's 7-0 tonking of Seattle Sounders, the The New York Cosmos
released their roster of footballers who will be gracing the Old Trafford pitch for Paul Scholes'
upcoming testimonial.
Arsenal misses out on a golden opportunity to recruit the class of the 2004 Invincibles. Patrick
Vieira retires and is absorbed within the Man City ranks as football development executive.
Vieira would have been an inspiration to an Arsenal team that has struggled with self belief and
a six year drought after he left.
January 4th 2001: "There is no doubt Wes is an outstanding young centre half,"
said Jaap Stam. "He has pace, is good in the air and is a fantastic tackler. He is as good as any
English centre-half in the Premiership, certainly alongside Jon Woodgate and Rio Ferdinand. The way
he is playing at the minute, he obviously has a fantastic future ahead of him.
Owen Hargeaves' bizarre online self-advertisement acts a reminder of the talent that is available
to Premier League clubs in the form of free agents. The former Manchester United man has tongue
firmly in cheek in proving his fitness in gym-based YouTube videos, but is nonetheless a
come-and-get-me plea.

Newcastle's managing director, Derek Llambias, told Telegraph Sport last night: "I can assure
everyone that not a single penny of the £35 million [.
