If this were a normal Monday, a real Monday, we'd be starting a new week with football ringing
in our ears. Lauding the three points we'd just won, bemoaning the two points we dropped, or
staying positive and getting right behind the team after losing a game we should have won. You
know, the way we always do.
As you have seen, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced a 22-player travel squad that will
gather in Mexico City for the first friendly meeting between the teams on Mexican soil since 1984.
There are plenty of notes in the roster announcement, so here's a few more to add to the mix:
Landon Donovan is the leading capwinner on the roster with 143 international appearances.
By Charles Boehm - WASHINGTON, DC (Aug 23, 2012) US Soccer Players -- Last week the United States
broke a 75-year winless streak on Mexican soil with its 1-0 friendly win in Mexico City, providing
a timely boost for both the team and its supporters ahead of next month's brace of CONCACAF World
Cup qualifiers against Jamaica.
By Charles Boehm - WASHINGTON, DC (Aug 1, 2012) US Soccer Players -- It's the week before the
Mexico - USA game at Estadio Azteca: Do you know where your loathing is? Just seven days remain
until the National Team enters perhaps the most daunting venue in world soccer for their first
friendly on Mexican soil since 1984.
JURGEN KLINSMANN On the team's performance against Italy: "Obviously from our end, we are really
pleased with the game and with the result. If you beat Italy on their own soil then that means a
lot. For us, the goal was to learn – to come here to learn. The challenge that this game gave us
– especially on the tactical side, to read the game ahead, to always think one step ahead –
for.
Maurice Edu and Geoff Cameron teamed together in central defense to do their part in the U.S.
men's national team's first-ever win on Mexican soil last week. It appears as if the two may be
joining forces much more frequently for the foreseeable future.
According to Rangers manager Ally McCoist, Edu's representation alerted him to a potential
transfer to Stoke City, a move that would facilitate his transfer out of the fourth-tier Scottish
club and into the English Premier League where he would be teammates with Cameron.
Didier Drogba gives Chelsea the lead against Tottenham with an amazing strike worthy of the
Wembley soil where upon. However Chelsea's second goal will make more headlines than this great
strike.
This photo seems to be circulating around Facebook and was most likely taken from a camera phone
of one of the players. It surely was taken just moments after the US Men's National Team's
first-ever win in Azteca and first-ever win on Mexican soil. Joy is a word that comes to mind when
looking at [.
With an unlikely goal by Michael Orozco Fiscal in the 80th minute of last night's international
friendly between Mexico and the United States at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, history was
made.
For the first time in its 75 year history, the United States, featuring a young, cobbled
together squad, managed to beat their CONCACAF rival, Mexico, on Mexican soil.

An unlikely trio of players created some US Soccer history on Wednesday night. Brek Shea,
Terrance Boyd and Michael Orozco, all 2nd half subs for the US Men's National Team friendly against
Mexico, combined for a goal in the 80th minute to give the US it's first victory in 75 years on
Mexican soil.
It is the U.S. men's national team's house of horrors, one of the more daunting places to play
around the world. And it looms Wednesday night.Â
The U.S. men's national team has never won at the storied Estadio Azteca, and despite bringing a
less-than-full-strength squad to Mexico City for Wednesday night's friendly against El Tri, the
challenge remains the same: Finally put a "1" in the "W" part of the W-L-T column that current
reads 0-8-1 all-time at Azteca, 0-19-1 all-time in Mexico City and 0-23-1 all-time on Mexican
soil.

By Clemente Lisi – NEW YORK, NY (Aug 14, 2012) US Soccer Players -- The USA returns to action on
Wednesday where it will have to grapple with the altitude and pressure of the famed Estadio Azteca
in a rare away friendly against rivals Mexico. This is the first exhibition game between the two
nations on Mexican soil since 1984, a real opportunity for both squads a month before World Cup
Qualifiers resume.
As you have heard, the U.S. will head south of the border Aug. 15 to resume the rivalry with
Mexico. It's the first friendly on Mexican soil between the teams since 1984, but certainly not the
last trip to Azteca. Wanna get a feel for what a trip to Mexico City is all about? Have a look at
the behind the scenes video from the last visit, a 2-1 loss in World Cup qualifying that took place
a little more than three years before the next encounter.

the win in stoppage time, 2-1.
Fun fact: The two headers in the 88th and 93rd minute meant that ten of her career 16 goals have
come in the 80th minute or later.
An uncharacteristically poor backpass to second half goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart gave New Zealand
the lead shortly after halftime (49th minute), but the sometimes sloppy Lady Nats found another
victory in the jaws of defeat.
Qualifying for major international tournaments has been a tougher challenge than expected for
U.S. youth teams over the last year, and that quest won't get any easier in 2013, as qualification
for two youth World Cups will take place on foreign soil.
Mexico and Panama have been selected to host the 2013 CONCACAF Under-20 and Under-17
championships, respectively.
By Cesar Diaz - NEW YORK, NY (Dec 9, 2011) US Soccer Players -- With the CONCACAF World Cup
Qualifiers taking place later this year, it is expected that the United States and Mexico will
resume their border rivalry. After 60 head-to-head matches, Mexico leads the rivalry with a
33-15-12 (W-L-T) advantage.
Clint Dempsey's 55th minute strike was enough to hand Italy coach Cesare Prandelli his second
consecutive home loss and raise serious questions about the Azzurri's Euro title hopes.
For Jurgen Klinsmann the win was his fourth straight victory and his biggest since taking over
as national team coach.
See, the problem with naming your child after a famous athlete is it might inspire him to one
day become like that athlete, and in the process soil your hero's name.
Take, for instance, Michel Platini born Michel Platini Ferreira Mesquita. Named after the man
ticking off Big Europe and helping clubs like APOEL through to the Champions League kayos (he was
also reportedly a half decent footballer once as well), the homeless man's replica is famous for
his name and now infamous for booting an opponent up the backside, sparking a brawl in a friendly
while playing for CSKA Sofia against Dinamo Bucharest last week.
Prince William proved he's the perfect FA president by losing a penalty shootout to a 13-year-old lad in the Solomon Islands. The young goalkeeper challenged Britain's second-in-line to the throne to beat him from the spot... and William responded as only an Englishman on foreign soil can: with a series of misses.
Brek Shea (U.S.), Julian de Guzman (Canada) and Carlos Rodriguez (Panama) each joined their

Azteca. Kickoff for the USA's first friendly against Mexico on Mexican soil since 1984 is set for 7

It's been confirmed the game will take place on July 28th, 3 PM EST, at Red
Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. This is the fourth time that this match has been held on foreign soil
(Montreal, Tunisia, and Morocco), but French football is finally coming to America!!!
Brad Friedel's Tottenham Hotspur will play Liverpool at M&T Bank Stadium on July 28th at 1pm ET,
the club announced on Monday. "Taking on Liverpool on US soil will be a great experience and one
that I'm sure will really appeal to our fans," Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said. "Both Clubs have
a fantastic heritage and matches against the two teams have a history of being exciting, hard
fought and high scoring affairs.
Continental club football is great. It shows a club where they really stand. Being a big fish in a
small pond is one thing but what about against your peers? That's what it comes down to. The hype
of the domestic league where you can brush aside fair to middling teams means shit if you can't mix
it against the boys from your continent.
Here we see Carlos Tevez, with his bemused and frankly knackered-looking daughters in tow,
touching down on Manchester soil once again ahead of him undergoing a raft of fitness tests (he
claims he'll be back in two week's time) at City's Carrington training HQ tomorrow.
As the U.S. WNT has done more than a few times under Pia Sundhage, they left it late and got the
job done, scoring twice in the last five minutes of the game to come from behind and defeat a gusty
New Zealand side by a 2-1 score. The sell-out crowd of 20,677 was the largest to watch the U.
