Joy is a virtue that fast seems to be disappearing from football. I am in no way a misty eyed
sentimentalist. Nor do I wish to fall into the trap of pining for a mythical past age, where the
sun always shone, the players were your mates and when you could leave your doors unlocked at night
and wake to find someone had come in and plumped your sofa cushions for you.

"You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way,
it does not exist." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Joey Barton, be it criminal or sporting, always seems to have his horns locked with authority
over some issue or another.
Yesterday afternoon, or if back home in England, yesterday evening, a strange thing happened in
the crazy world of soccer journalism and social networking that illustrated, to me at least, the
huge power that has now developed across Twitter, Facebook and other popular network sites.
I write shortly before 3pm, the afternoon after the launch of So Paddy Got Up at the Tollington.
My hands still tremble as I type. I've cleaned my teeth three times and had a tactical fry up yet
still the sour taste of Wild Turkey trips off my tongue. It really was a pleasure to see so many of
you and stop for a beer and a chat.
Union
The Union has become well-known for its innovative use of social networking tools. The latest
bit of cleverness is this: when their Facebook page gets 92,012 likes, they will unveil the new
designs for the first and second kit. You can 'like' the Union by clicking here. As of this
writing, there are only 6,500 'likes' to go.
"What a footballer Luka Modric is, hats off. Best in the league by a mile."
Oh well how nice. The 140 or less characters tapped into social networking guru Joey Barton's
keyboard on Sunday. You might have a point there, Joseph. Not too sure about his earlier efforts
regarding Simon Cowell and the desire to see him swing outside parliament for giving jumped-up
little indie twonks permission to defecate over The Clash back catalouge- probably a tad extreme-
but he at least appears to have a good eye for footballing talent.

There was a sense of inevitability last week when Joey Barton revealed he would be making an
announcement on his future later that afternoon.
Two days prior there wasn't a worry for Newcastle fans. Most speculation on Barton's future had
blown over and the midfielder was performing well in pre-season.

Maybe you heard, maybe you didn't. Fast Five somehow turned out to be not only a box office

Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere could face punishment from the FA after he mocked referee Phil
Dowd on Twitter.
The use of the social networking website by Premier League players most recently came under fire
when former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel used it to complain about the officiating in an FA Cup
match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Despite the prevalence of the notion that players should refrain from the use of Twitter to
avoid controversy, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that there is certainly no need for such
drastic measures.
By now, it is well known that Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has been charged with improper
conduct by the FA for his comments against the objectivity of referee Howard Webb on the popular
social networking website.

You'd have been as well off with Wikipedia for reliable sourcing of "Ronaldinho for Blackburn"
news. This time yesterday, entries one and three on page one for the Google entry "Blackburn
Ronaldinho" read, "Blackburn have denied reports that they could be ready to make an audacious bid
to land AC Milan's Ronaldinho in the transfer window", and, "Premier League club Blackburn Rovers
have sensationally joined the race to sign Brazilian superstar Ronaldino".
