Sterjovski's stomach bug, words from the Fox and Dave's blog

Home - Football Perth Blog - Perth Glory News 19 November @ 07:44 PM EST
Morning all, happy Friday to you all.
So unless 12-year-olds read this blog, we all know that WWE (or WWF for all those hardcore "attitude" fans) is fake. Fake as Pamela Anderson's 'assets'.
So it was weird to see that some of the Australian media taking the Hulk Hogan/Ric Flair press conference a bit too seriously. Click to continue reading...

World Cup: Everyone is going!

Football in the Capital 18 November @ 07:45 PM EST
Ireland aren't going! Neither is Gus Hiddink.
Could we bring him back....too late I guess!
Ronaldo should be there..if fit...but not the Ukraine's or Egyptians.
Still in the modern world if your country doesn't make it (Ireland) you can support the country you grew up in (England) the country you live in and love (Socceroos) or the countries you have visited, (NZ, USA, Germany, Japan, France, Greece, Italy etc etc,) or countries you'd like to see do well. New Zealand big winner from FFA A-League investment

A seat at the A-League 16 November @ 03:47 AM EST
New Zealand's qualification for the 2010 World Cup is the direct result of 2 actions by the FFA.
1. The move of the Socceroos from Oceania to Asia, thereby giving New Zealand its 5th spot. Also the '5th spot' moving from South America to Asia.
2. The A-League lifting the performance of players who otherwise would only have achieved local experience on the small NZ scene. Click to continue reading...

Part-time Pundit 15 November @ 05:17 AM EST

As has been the case several times in their recent Asian Cup and World Cup Qualifying campaigns, the Socceroos once again left it late to pinch all three points.. only this time it was with 10 men and Oman fell victim. Crisis meeting, contract priorities, Glory fundrasing and youth game preview

Home - Football Perth Blog - Perth Glory News 14 November @ 08:09 PM EST
Morning all, welcome to the blog.
Well, Mile Sterjovski didn't feature for the Socceroos - which in a way is good news, because it means he's injury free for Perth Glory. Seems like a selfish way of looking at things, but meh.
Meanwhile, congrats to the Kiwis for joining the party in South Africa - we couldn't dream about going there without ya. Click to continue reading...

Oman 1 v Socceroos 2 - luck

A seat at the A-League 14 November @ 06:58 PM EST
Well Mark Schwarzer made our luck, even saving the 14th minute penalty to be beaten on the rebound. Bad luck to Rhys Williams being forced into a foul to give the penalty. But otherwise Oman botched 4 or so goals - just played too fast for their skill level. Criag Moore was lucky not to have given away a second half hand ball penalty. Click to continue reading...

Interlull - Glory contracts, Todd and the WC semi finals

Home - Football Perth Blog - Perth Glory News 11 November @ 11:08 AM EST
So we are still midway through the interlull, but there is still a quite a bit of Perth Glory news about town.
But before we get to that, just a bit of an update of what the Glory are up to this week.
First of all, FP just got word that the coach Dave Mitchell will be holding a press conference on Friday as part of his "midseason review". Click to continue reading...

Mac the Knifed

The Footbal Tragic 09 November @ 01:42 AM EST
Alex Brosque's return to form this season has been a delight to watch, but this sudden move up the ranks comes as a surprise nonetheless. The timing is unfortunate, since Brosque was surprisingly ineffective against Gold Coast United this weekend, especially after the game-changing departure of Steve Corica. Perth draw with Wellington and Mitchell's words

Home - Football Perth Blog - Perth Glory News 08 November @ 07:14 PM EST
SO Wellington Phoenix haven't lost at home in 13 games, they have won their last two games there with nine goals scored - so after Perth Glory came away with a draw yesterday, is that a good result?
Of course it is.
It was the sort of match where a couple of moments of brilliance were need to notch a goal on the board. Click to continue reading...

Stories from Mitchell and Sterjovski pressers

Home - Football Perth Blog - Perth Glory News 05 November @ 06:30 PM EST
Morning to the blog, guys and gals.
Just a bit of breaking news, Jamie Coyne will not be going to Wellington after he was ruled out with a thigh injury. What makes this even more interesting, was that no one picked on this at yesterday's presser, the assumption was that there were no new injuries. Click to continue reading...

A Lot Can Happen In A Month

Against The Crossbar 15 October @ 03:59 AM EST
Its been just over a month since I last put fingers to keyboard and tapped out a paragraph or two for this blog and a lot has happened in that time. Crowds continue to be a major talking point and I was very pleased to see Gold Coast and Brisbane take steps to reduce their ticket prices and make them more affordable for the general fan. Dutch Star: I Love Liverpool

Anfield Talk 12 October @ 12:40 PM EST
Dutch international Dirk Kuyt has stressed how he is enjoying life on Merseyside with Liverpool despite the club's poor start to the season.

Oranje dominates but forgets to score...

Euro 2008 on World Cup Blog 11 October @ 08:41 PM EST
In three games against Australia, Oranje hasn't been able to win. Last Saturday, Oranje played the Socceroos away. In Australia. A unique happening, since most big nations balk at the idea of traveling 42 hours to play a 90 minute friendly. Bert van Marwijk - and the powers that be at Click to continue reading...

Flashforward

The Footbal Tragic 10 October @ 10:30 PM EST
The premise of Channel 7's new sci-fi series might not lie in the realms of fantasy after all. Last night, watching the Australia v. Netherlands game, I had a vivid premonition of how Pim Verbeek's side will approach games against superior (or even peer) opposition in South Africa next year.
Plenty of shuffling the ball across the back four. Click to continue reading...

Writing the World Cup Guest List

Football Down Under and Beyond 10 October @ 08:08 AM EST
I'm a bit overwhelmed with the soccer available this weekend, and excited.
The only live soccer I'll be seeing was this morning, when the West End Terrorists (Jacob's team, though they now only use their name privately and on the team sheet are just, 'West End') won their second indoor game 8:2, against the Feral Rats. Click to continue reading...

God Bless the Socceroos

The Beautiful Game (2) 09 October @ 11:37 AM EST
How can you not love these guys? That run in the '06 World Cup was a blast.
And led by awesome-dude Tim Cahill the team is going to help out the earthquake and tsunami victims in Samoa and Indonesia.
Not just a neat goal celebration.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) said it will donate one dollar for every fan who attends the Socceroos' matches against the Netherlands in Sydney on Saturday and against Oman in Melbourne next week.

Melbourne 0 v Sydney 3

A seat at the A-League 09 October @ 08:23 AM EST
It was all done in about 4 minutes. 3 Great goals.
Melbourne had their big game last week. And in front of over 30,000 they just were not there. Kruse lasted 30 minutes and didn't do much. Towards the end Melbourne gave them a barrage, particularly Thompson. But Simon Colossimo showed he has earned Craig Moore's Socceroos spot. Click to continue reading...

Australia is excited with Oranje's presence Down Under. The friendly against the Socceroos coming Saturday is close to being sold out (45.000 tickets sold). Egyptian Exit

The Footbal Tragic 03 October @ 08:26 PM EST
No points from three games, eight goals conceded, only two scored. On the face of it, a pretty miserable showing by the Young Socceroos in Egypt.
Yet there were a few consolations to take away from the tournament, and the way the team started against Brazil showed that this was far from a bunch of no-hopers. Click to continue reading...

Egypt Calling - update

The Footbal Tragic 01 October @ 04:54 AM EST
It's a little early to be passing final judgement on Jan Versleijen's group of Young Socceroos, given that they are still in with a slim chance of progressing. But the report card is less than impressive so far.
Many have showered praise on them for how they took the game to both the Czechs and Costa Rica, but it's surely significant that Versleijen's charges only really did so when they were already chasing the game. Click to continue reading...

Crumbs, Canberra has won?

Football in the Capital 29 September @ 07:57 PM EST
So we didn't get the 12th licence purely it seems because we weren't called Western Sydney.
And the FFA has certainly angered many Canberrans with their process of selection. If indeed there was ever a process.
But when the dust settles many will agree, the Canberra Bid Committee although failing in their aim to get the 12th licence has moved Canberra back into the world of professional football. Click to continue reading...

Australia Stutter In Seoul

South Africa 2010 08 September @ 11:12 AM EST
Australia would be concerned after their 3-1 loss to South Korea. The Socceroos were wobbly, unsure and overly cautious and made a mockery of their FIFA ranking of 14. Ji-sung Park tames Socceroos

EPL Talk 05 September @ 09:15 AM EST

Australia's remarkable run of results has come crashing to a halt at the Seoul World Cup Stadium as Korea downed the Socceroos 3-1  tonight in an International Friendly. With both teams safely through to the World Cup Finals as top of their Asian qualifying groups, this was a chance for both managers to test some new players, and Aussie coach Pim Verbeek rang in the changes in what was a homecoming for him, as he coached South Korea before taking the Australian job.

Mark Viduka: Leave us with dignity?

Football in the Capital 25 August @ 06:53 PM EST
Mark Viduka one of Australia's greatest sportsmen is in danger of leaving the game with a stain around his image.
