The Egyptian ambassador to Algeria was recalled by Cairo as the soccer feud between the two countries has now escalated into a full scale diplomatic row.

It is also believed that Hosni Mubarak himself called the Algerian ambassador, Abdel Qader Hadja hours before the recall of the Egyptian envoy, to voice his grievance over the assaults on Egyptian citizens who went to Khartoum to support the Egyptian team.

Kayla Mitchell scored twice as the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team defeated RMAC tournament champion Fort Lewis 2-1 on Sunday at Dirks Field in Durango.

Mines (19-4-0) will face Metropolitan State College at noon Friday at Auraria Field in downtown Denver.

Mitchell, who finished the match with eight shots, scored the winning goal in the 40th minute, capitalizing on some miscommunication in the Fort Lewis defense.

DES MOINES, Iowa. – The 19th-ranked Missouri State men's soccer team (12-4-2) dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to fourth-seed Evansville (12-7-1) at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa, this afternoon.

Missouri State weathered a fierce attack from Evansville in the first half. The Purple Aces generated 11 shots and forced Alex Riggs to make seven saves in the half.

There's been an interesting exchange on the Canadian soccer front, with Jason de Vos and Paul James both writing articles about Canadian players who have chosen to play for other national teams, and Duane Rollins responding in kind.
While this might get me into all sorts of trouble, my own view is that while I am sympathetic to those who are angry at players like Begovic and Lensky for switching national allegiances at this late stage, and for misleading Canada fans over their intended decision, I have trouble accepting that they should play for Canada "no matter what," as in "no matter if the CSA actively supports both them and the national program in a meaningful way or not.
