It's a smooth move from Will's Woody Allen flick Top 5'er (What? No NSC reader love for Bananas?!? Shocking!!). We go straight into the card for the third New York Kicking & Screening Festival, which will take place in Manhattan from July 20-23.I had a blast at the inaugural Amsterdam version - even if my foosball offense was short of form.

It was during a trip to Mexico City in 2009 that inspiration struck Ashwin Chaudhary. A longtime filmmaker, the New York native embedded with a rambunctious group of zealous US soccer fans traveling to the US-Mexico World Cup qualifier at the fortress Azteca in August nearly two years ago. Chaudhary smuggled in a small camera, and what he captured - most of which curdles the blood of any US fan

As Will heads off to cover the U.S. v Panama rematch for NSC and I point you over two Part Deux of my goodie release over at MLSS, let's all get ready for the fall release of Laduma (formerly One Goal). The new title is a South African exultation used after a goal is scored. This one looks mighty good, USMNT supporters - after all, it's about you.

Just so you didn't think I forgot about you, it's the BBC film United, which from what I've heard is a pretty good "based on real events" dramatization of Manchester United's Busby Babes and the 1958 Munich Air Disaster. The film is in 10 parts, below is the opener and you can follow it all the way through the related videos.

With Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story, it's hard not to notice the connections between filmmakers and subject. The production/direction team of Nick Lewis and Ranko Tutulugdzija have broken into the documentary game by eagerly wandering into the unknown and by making it personal. The pair are professionals in other fields and amateurs at film - but the crossover novices had two major somethings

Okay, I have talked with one of the filmmakers and I have a bit of additional info on The Jay DeMerit Story. The movie will be screened solely in film festivals for one year, starting next month in Vancouver, where it is up for a Canada International Film Festival award. The rough cut runs about 90 minutes, and from what I can gather will be released on DVD later this year.

I will try to locate another or two of the weekend selection for you all, but here's presentation #1. The Referee | Rättskiparen [2010] from Freedom From Choice AB on Vimeo.
