MLS History As Seen Through Its Stadia: Top 20 Countdown!

One can make a number of observations about the development of Major League Soccer by examining the stadia its teams have played in. Over the next two weeks, I'm going to rank 20 of the thirty(?) MLS stadia over the last 14 years and share my impressions and a few anecdotes.  Through the rankings, which in general tend to be in chronological order, one can see not only the evolution of MLS stadia, but evolution of the League itself.

Traditional Soccer Handshake Banned

The traditional after match soccer handshake will be banned in minor league soccer games throughout Canada for fear of spreading the H1N1 virus. The move was decided by league members who have said that everyone needs to do more to stop the spread of the swine flu virus. The flu is spread from infected people to others through handshakes, fluids or air.

The first was very much a community event, the latter was distant and relatively alienating. ESPN Reveals TV Ratings For EPL Debut Of Chelsea v Hull City

And the results are pretty decent especially considering that EPL Talk didn't break the news until 7:46pm ET on the night before the game. Former MN Soccer Coach Gets Maximum Jail Sentence for Sexual Assault

The Star Tribune reported on Friday that former Elk River soccer coach Eric Hawkins was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison [the maximum sentence] following his January conviction for sexually assaulting a former youth player.

Hawkins was a long time coach at Three Rivers Soccer Association with MYSA and was also a Rockford High School boys coach.
