David Beckham's reent ejection from a youth soccer game has been receiving a lot of attention in
the press. To hear Becks describe it, he quite rightly protested a referee ejecting a 7-year old
from a youth soccer game and the ref kicked him out of the park as a result.
If Beckham's telling is accurate, it seems the ref overreacted twice and this is all much ado
about nothing.

A day after a riot at a club soccer game in Egypt left at least 74 dead and many others injured,
Egypt's prime minister has dissolved the Egyptian FA's board.
Kamal el-Ganzouri announced the decision to dissolve the board during Thursday's emergency
parliamentary session, and also said that the governor of Port Said (where the game took place) and
the area's police chief have resigned.
It started as a soccer game. It ended with a football score.
Former Boston Breakers' striker Amy Rodriguez grabbed a record-tying five goals in the
United States' record-setting 14-0 demolition of the Dominican Republic in the first game of
Olympic Qualifying at BC Place in Vancouver.
Well... not for the direct purpose of ignoring you, anyway. There's just been 43 things buzzing
about nonstop, allowing crazy to win the day. I missed my own soccer game and have just now eaten
what should probably pass for lunch at 11 pm. I inadvertently and unknowingly caused a sourcing
delay for some of my peers.
Soccer is unique in contrast to other sports. The clock does count down having a set time for
how long a period lasts. That means to the extent of maybe 20 minutes for hockey to count down
until the next period or 15 minutes for football. With soccer, however, the clock tends to go up
instead of down as anything could happen in a soccer game.

U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati speaks to U.S. supporters (including the

Our story is not unique nor is it amazing but it really is indicative of how the Timbers have
continued to be a big part of the Portland community. I asked my Dad to relate his thoughts and
memories of the Timbers in the 70's and I will explain how his involvement shaped my family and our
love for Soccer and the Timbers.
We wrote last week about Major League Soccer's efforts to keep the league relevant during the
off season. The league is certainly making an effort in that regard with a couple of
announcements today designed to keep fans interested and media reporting about the league. We'll
start with big national broadcast news for the opening Major League Soccer weekend in 2012.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Two weeks removed from opening their season undefeated, the Revolution Youth
Academy squads will sojourn south for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's Winter Showcase, which
kicks off today and will run through Dec. 6.
On tap for the lads will be matches against Charlotte Soccer Academy (Dec.
OK, so I'll admit I'm not in my most cheerful of moods. I've been absent for the better part of
this week, trying to see some justice done here in Hood County, Texas. But alas, what I got instead
was a heavy dose of injustice in the courtroom, if I may say so myself. I won't bore you all with
the painful details, but what I really needed was 12 jurors from this soccer game in Portugal a few
years ago:
Hopefully I can relax and blog a bit, and find my happy place again.

It's healthy to see footballers express their frustration and unhappiness after conceding a
goal. It shows that they care. However, sometimes it also shows that they are, well, stupid.
In a US Southern Conferece college soccer game between Elon Universtiy and UNC Greensboro, the
latter's goalkeeper, Peyton Ford (a magnificently American name, there) was comfortably rounded by
Elon striker Jordan Smith who went on to score with ease.
Over the last year or so, we have discussed MLS' efforts to measure the value of its television
exposure through various local and national broadcasts. Through the website criticalmention.com,
MLS tries to alert media to the "value" of its presence on various television programs. Since a
few weeks have passed since we last checked in on this metric, we thought providing a snapshot of
this metric of MLS media exposure.
Milwaukee Marquette senior forward Joe Naughton has one more prep soccer game to play
this year.
Naughton was one of 40 senior boys soccer players across the country selected for the inaugural
High School All-American Game, which is scheduled for Dec. 10 in Birmingham, Ala.
Well I must say I was a little surprised when Ben Buckley called last night to offer me the job of
Socceroos' Head Coach, starting immediately.
Of course I know when the time for my national duty has come, and I accepted. But not before I had
a long talk with Buckley in which I said I would be making a number of changes, some of them which
will shock some people and many fans, and he guaranteed that I would have complete freedom and
control over the roster.
I was on an online chat last weekend with 1,200 people watching a second division U.S. soccer game
streamed online. All of a sudden a soccer fan blurted out on the chat that ‘soccer wasn't big in
America.' Soccer not ...

Sometimes soccer just provides an excuse to drink – anddrink a lot. Like MLS this weekend. Is
there a point to the final matches? NewYork Red Bulls' win over Philadelphia Union on Thursday
night meant theyclinched the final playoff position, leaving no real purpose for watching thegames.
CHARLOTTESVILLE Virginia alumnae Lori Lindsey and Becky Sauerbrunn, members of the
2011 United States Women's World Cup team, will be recognized during Thursday's women's soccer game
against Virginia Tech. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium and will be televised
nationally on FOX Soccer Channel.

Missouri State Bears, Heath Melugin (2012)
Congratulations to the Bears on their great win at home last night. Wish I didn't have to leave
Springfield for them to get over that hump!

So Jurgen Klinsmann had some choice words about MLS players and the way the league currently
operates its scheduling. In a few words he wants the league season to be longer in order to
facilitate a more competitive environment as compared to the rest of the world.
Those of you who have followed SF for a while now should know that I'm a huge proponent of
keeping a balanced schedule and increasing the number of games played per year.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 6, 2011) US Soccer Players -- So we now know what a top-tier
soccer game on network television draws. Even on tape-delay, it's about 1.5 million viewers. That's
the takeaway from Fox's experiment in showing delayed English Premier League games on Sunday
afternoon, and it's also a new goal for what counts as success with televised soccer in America.
So the U.S. Open Cup is tonight. Unfortunately, the Timbers aren't a part of it. Still, it's an
important tournament regardless what MLS would have you believe. As the nation's longest running
tournament dating back to 1914 I think it's important to stay tuned to what's happening even if our
side isn't represented.

The inaugural Major League Soccer game at the newly renovated BC Place wasn't necessarily a one
to remember for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Portland Timbers managed to spoil Vancouver's stadium opening with a 1-0 upset thanks to a
cracker of a goal from Kenny Cooper on Sunday afternoon.

In a game typical of this local derby, emotions ran high and it wasn't until the second half
before a soccer game reared it's head. With both squads affected by injuries to key players, it
would fall to strong individual efforts to create goals this evening.
The first goal came as Hunter Durham fought off a challenge for a head ball and pushed hard into
the box where he was able to reach the endline and turn towards the box.
They say that one of the best coaches in the world is watching high level games and players. If
that's the case, Rylie Rampone, daughter of U.S. captain Christie Rampone has had some incredible
coaching over her five years as she has attended countless Women's National Team matches and
practices.
Of course, most of the time she was picking flowers, munching on snacks, napping, playing with toys
in suites, playing video games on an iPad or watching videos and cartoons on her portable video
player.
There is, one again, renewed interest in a Las Vegas MLS expansion. One article has a $1.4
billion muti-sports complex being built in the city of Henderson for both the NBA and MLS. But I
wonder... where's the motivation for an MLS team in Las Vegas? No offense to the city's sports
fans, but unlike with Portland, Philadelphia, or even San Antonio there's not a strong ground swell
of support.

When Jordan Harvey was dealt, Peter Nowak said the following about Gabriel Farfan: "From a
physical standpoint, and speed, everything is there. And he has some bite, which is very good for a
defender." Garfan has been fast and tough, but he has had a steep learning curve.
Where was the player who would score? Everybody said he'd score. Dave thought he'd have scored
by now. At least based on what other people had said. Dave thought intensely. He was in his
kitchen. He had gotten up early and tip-toed into the kitchen. He had carefully hid his laptop in a
bag, entered the kitchen, taken the laptop out of the bag, placed a freshly cleaned and
lemon-scented towel on the granite kitchen counter top, placed the laptop on the towel, turned on
the laptop, and found a pirated stream of the soccer game.

Adams State College men's soccer has marked a lot of firsts in the team's brief history. On
Friday night, the Grizzlies grabbed several firsts as the team recorded its most goals, largest
margin of victory, first shutout and first visit to a .500 record.
Hawken Hanna scored the first goal and what would prove to be the game winner in the 6th minute
as the Grizzlies dominated the UT-Permian Basin Falcons, 4-0, at ASC Soccer Field.
The Philly Soccer Page " KYW Philly Soccer Show: Union fight back
This week's KYW Philly Soccer Show podcast comes on the heels of Wednesday's 4–4 comeback
thriller at PPL Park. The Union, facing a 4–1 deficit at halftime, rallied to earn a 4–4 draw
against the New England Revolution. The Philadelphia team was powered by two goals from Sebastian
Le Toux, who has three tallies in the last two games.
With only one Major League Soccer game on the Saturday schedule, a makeup for a postponement
earlier in the season, Real Salt Lake got more momentum as they attempt to return to the top of the
Western Conference table. As seems to be the story this season, it was at the expense of an Eastern
Conference contender.
