By Charles Boehm - WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 31, 2012) US Soccer Players -- In his book How Soccer Explains the World, Franklin Foer describes a criticism of soccer as a game that "gives life to tribal identities which should be disappearing." Foer rejects that criticism for ignoring what he calls a ‘craving' to identify with a group as a central part of the human experience.

By Jason Davis - WASHINGTON, DC (June 13, 2012) US Soccer Players -- So far, the European
Championships has been a study in half-baked ideas on how to go about winning a soccer game. So
far, the European Championship have hardly been one of those tournaments that sets trends we'll see
latched onto around the world in the years ahead.

One of the largest crowds to watch a soccer game anywhere in the world this weekend will gather in the United States for a regular season match between two Major League Soccer teams.
The Seattle Sounders will host the Portland Timbers at 9 p.m. EST tonight on ESPN. The Sounders announced Monday that more than 66,000 tickets had been distributed.
Imagine you're attending your first Major League Soccer game in San Jose, Columbus, or you were off
to see Chivas USA this weekend. What you got were goals, lots of them. Now, imagine your surprise
when you figure out this isn't MLS as usual. What? This isn't a league where teams regularly
combine for 5, 7, and 8 goal games?
It has been two weeks since I checked in, but I assure you, MLS Road Trip is still going strong.
Our lack of recent posts haven't been due to the lack of games we attended, actually the opposite.
We are currently in Columbus, Ohio, but in the last two weeks, we have been to four games in two
countries!

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. The last time I saw Bobby Shuttleworth play against the New York Red Bulls in
person was a night I will never forget. It was May 29, 2010 and Shuttleworth started the game on
the bench, backing up Preston Burpo (Matt Reis spent much of the 2010 season injured).
Traditionally, Independence Day is a big event for Major League Soccer, with fireworks
extravaganzas, big crowds and big publicity. Last year, the league's broadcast partners joined
the fun, with a crammed schedule of nationally telecast games. Fox Soccer started things off at
7:00 on Saturday with a live broadcast from RFK.
A lonely Major League Soccer game from a weekend focused on internationals, and a big win for the
Vancouver Whitecaps. Darren Mattocks opened the scoring for Vancouver four minutes in and doubled
the lead in the 66th. The Dynamo's Macoumba Kandji pulled a goal back in the 83rd. Jordan Harvey
scored for Vancouver in the 88th minute.
New England got the home shutout in the only Major League Soccer game of the weekend. Both goals
came in the second-half with 64th-minute substitute Kelyn Rowe scoring in the 69th minute off an
assist from Benny Feilhaber. The second goal came four minutes later, with Feilhaber scoring and
Rowe providing the setup.

The Portland Timbers reserves won their match up against the Oregon State Beavers today with a
score of 2-1. All three goal scorers were Timbers with Brent Richards and Franck Songo'o scoring
for the Timbers while U23's product Emory Welshman got on the board for OSU.
The Timbers played two very different games in the first and second halves.
The dust is now just beginning to settle for the first ever victory by the USA in Mexico. And
the win came in no other place than Aztec Stadium, notorious for tormenting the USMNT over the
years. Although the Americans didn't play what you would call a beautiful soccer game, they played
with grit, determination, and hard work.
Pia Sundhage should be proud. Her squad made history today at legendary Old Trafford, the home
of Manchester United. This match marked the first time that an international women's soccer game
was played at the Theatre of Dreams, with 29,000+ in attendance to watch the historic event. To top
that, the USWNT defeated Korea, completing their clean sweep of Group G.
The New England Revolution are all about doubleheaders these days.
Sunday's Eastern Conference matchup against the Montreal Impact will be followed up by a
three-bout boxing card in the stadium, headlined by an eight-round battle between Framingham native
"Irish" Danny O'Connor and Eddie Soto of Pawtucket.

The FIFA video game series has been a consistent and steady improvement for several years. Since the release of FIFA 09, the franchise has started to attract lots of critical acclaim for creating a very realistic but still very enjoyable soccer/football simulation.
Virginia Men's Soccer Falls to Wake Forest, 4-1 Bates scores 42nd career goal in losing effort
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men's soccer team lost 4-1 to Wake Forest Friday night in ACC play at Klöckner Stadium. Will Bates (Sr., Chester, Va.) scored the Cavaliers' goal in the 79th minute.
This may seem obvious, but there's more than one way to win a soccer game. There are so many
strategies (call these game wide) or tactics (specific plays or limited circumstances) that can
help a team win. Talent isn't this perfectly understood thing (OK, Messi). But in any specific game
there are ways to win.
Huh. Where did all the goals go? Did the heat wave finally get to everyone? Did every team suddenly
start signing better defensive players(Hint: No)? To put this into perspective, more goals were
scored in ONE game last week than were scored by all the teams this week, which even included an
extra midweek game!

Via Fox Soccer American star Michael Bradley will lead fabled Italian side Roma out on against

Prior to today's politically-heated Euro 2012 quarter-final between Germany and Greece,
newspapers from both countries have been slinging plenty of mud at each other.
German tabloid Bild, for example, previewed the game with a headline that translated to 'Bye,
Greece. Today we cannot save you!
Allow us to set a scene. It's a hotel a few miles from the massive National Football League stadium
in northern New Jersey. Later that day, the stadium will host a friendly soccer game between
Argentina and Brazil. Even an average American sports fan who barely follows regular season games
in the major North American sports would likely know the names Argentina and Brazil when it comes
to soccer.
England will win against France. Why am I so sure? Well, many disingenuous soccer sites make
predictions based on starting lineups, the form and presence of star players, and a recent results.
Here at Futfanatico, we solidly base our predictions on centuries old naval and cavalry warfare
history. And archers.
