Ian Barker has been a star in soccer coaching education here in the United States, and yesterday
was offered the ultimate opportunity in that arena when he was selected as the Director of Coaching
Education for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
"Ian is the perfect choice to lead the NSCAA's coaching education program to new heights," said
Cummings.
Legendary coach Manny Schellscheidt has been a pioneer in American soccer for decades, and on
Monday he retired from his long-time profession, stepping down as Seton Hall head coach after 24
years.
Schellscheidt spent nearly a quarter century in charge of the Pirates, but he had already
established an impressive coaching resume even before that.

CARSON, Calif. -- Standing atop the winner's podium following MLS Cup is nothing new for Los
Angeles Galaxy coach Bruce Arena and Houston Dynamo coach Dom Kinnear. Whichever one gets the
opportunity to do that again following Sunday's final, though, will make history in the process
while further etching his name in U.
Congratulations to Jay Heaps, who appears to be the new Head Coach of the New England
Revolution.
The former Duke University and New England Revolution standout would succeeds Steve Nicol, as
reported in the Boston Globe.
Last Wednesday, Revs president Brian Bilello revealed to MLSsoccer.
Charles Boehm wrote recently about how the new USSF curriculum that was created by Claudio Reyna is
starting to make it's way into our youth soccer setting here in the United States.
Last year U.S. Soccer hired Claudio Reyna as the federation's youth technical director, tasking
the former Men's National Team star with evaluating and revitalizing the nation's approach to
player development from the ground up.
On Saturday I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Ralph Perez from the University of
Redlands. I am very grateful to Coach Perez for giving up some of his valuable time to pass on his
advice and knowlege to our soccer coaching community here at www.soccercoachingblog.com.
The interview lasted over 30 mins and covered topics such as practice exercises, use of time and
space, use of video, advice for college recruits, and ideas for recreational, club and high school
coaches.

FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique knows a thing or two about winning.
The 24-year-old helped Spain capture its first World Cup trophy in 2010 and claimed the UEFA
Champions League title with his hometown club this season. He also dates singing star Shakira, whom
he met in South Africa last summer.
Nice interview of Anson Dorrance by Mike Woitalla in Soccer America yesterday. Dorrance heavily
pimps the US Soccer Coaching Curriculum for youth:
So I absolutely love the document. I love the way U.S. Soccer is presenting it. I love
the fact that the Academies are going to use this as their player development bible.
For all the strides soccer has made in America over the last 20-plus years, even the most ardent
backers of the beautiful game will admit that it's many decades away from becoming the nation's No.
1 sport -- if it ever gets there at all.
Not that it needs to, of course. In the United States' vast and vibrant athletic landscape, there
will clearly be a big place for futbol alongside football, basketball and baseball as the country's
changing demographics continue to push what was a niche game a short few years ago deep into the
mainstream consciousness.
I am delighted to announce that I had the honor of interviewing coaches Dean Wurzberger and
Carlos Juarez over the weekend. Both coaches were kind enough to let me have some of their valuable
time as they were staffing the USSF National B license at the Home Depot Center in Carson,
California.
Husky coach Dean Wurzberger resigned on Dec.
Ricki Herbert has reached the top of the soccer coaching ladder after a 20-year climb.
Herbert this week learned he had been appointed to the panel of instructors and lecturers for
the sport's world governing body's Courses.
The Fifa appointment, which took effect on January 1 this year, means Herbert joins 29 other
soccer coaches on the panel.

OK, so married with a pregnant wife and a 21 month old who has a fever reduces my soccer
watching time considerably. However I did get up early and watch the Spurs vs Man Utd game and
thoroughly enjoyed it.
Another example of how a game can be entertaining yet not produce any goals, I think the
American public is coming to terms with that more and more.
