Christian Metzler of Woodbridge, VA has been named the first ever winner of the
Inspireum Soccer Awards.
The Pope John Paul the Great goalkeeper will also receive a $7,500 academic scholarship.
Metzler surely is worthy of the award and his story is an amazing one to say the least.
Part I of the 2nd Annual Yanks Are Coming Best of US Soccer Awards featured 2011′s US Soccer
disappointments, frustrations, and best hairdo. The second portion of our awards focuses on the
promise of youth, goalkeepers, and the goals scored in what was a thrilling year in American

Best of U.S. Soccer has returned, with voting in 11 categories beginning today on U.S. Soccer's
Facebook page. There are some Youth National Teams and players sprinkled throughout the ballot,
which asks fans to select their favorites from the year in 2011. There's also a category devoted to
the Development Academy.
Christian Metzler of Woodbridge,VA and Gaela Normile from Virginia Beach, VA have been named to the
final 12 players in the nation as finalists for the 2011 Inspirium Soccer Awards.
The final results will be announced January 3, 2012.
The Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association announced its 2011 award winners, recognizing some of the
people who make soccer a success across the state.
The five state winners will be honored at the WYSA Annual General Meeting on March 24 at Monona
Terrace in Madison, and are eligible for Region II and national honors as part of the U.
Three soccer players from Virginia have been named semifinalists of the Inspireum Soccer Awards.
Tyler Hobbs (Chesapeake),
Christian Metzler (Woodbridge), and
Gaela Normile (Virginia Beach) are hoping to win the $25,000 in scholarships.
The list of 50 semifinalists will be narrowed down to 12 finalists on December 13th by the National
Selection Committee that includes coaches April Heinrichs and Jurgen Klinsmann.
The U.S. Men's National Team has completed the 2011 campaign, finishing on a high note with an
entertaining 3-2 victory against Slovenia in Ljubljana. Along with the introduction of Jurgen
Klinsmann as head coach, there were a few key highlights:
- Clint Dempsey finished with a team-high five goals
- Carlos Bocanegra and Tim Howard finished with team-high 15 starts, the most appearances in a
year in each of their careers
- Bocanegra became the 12th player in U.

Conference (MIAC) announced the 2011 MIAC Men's Soccer Awards Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011. St. Olaf
which won the 2011 MIAC Men's Soccer Playoff Championship and shared the league's regular-season
title with Carleton - swept both of the conference's major individual awards.

(MIAC) announced the 2011 MIAC Women's Soccer Awards Thursday, including the MIAC All-Conference
Team, Honorable Mention selections and the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. The league's top individual
awards were shared by the two teams that met last weekend for the MIAC Playoff championship [.
Players from JMU, VCU, William and Mary, and Old Dominion where recognized for their great seasons
at this years All-CAA Men's Soccer Awards Banquet hosted at James Madison University.

Zak Boggs and Darrius Barnes may provide a lone bright spot on 2011's gloomy MLS campaign as

Say what you will about Playoffs, but the road to the 2011 MLS Cup has created insurmountable
drama. From Rafa Marquez starting a fight after LA won in New York to the Seattle Sounders nearly
coming back from a 3-nil deficit, the Playoffs have ensured a level of entertainment any fan can
embrace.
The ballots have been tallied and we now know the finalists for the various end-of-season awards
for Major League Soccer.
Last year it was easy to find some fault in the various finalists but this year, every award was
fairly open enough.
2011 Major League Soccer Awards Finalists (Listed in alphabetical order by

Brad Davis, Dwayne DeRosario and Brek Shea were named finalists for the MLS MVP Award on Monday
as the league announced the finalists for all the season-ending awards.

Pet peeve about most soccer awards processes: holding midfielders get very little love.
It really is such an important position. Show me a team with a good holding midfielder and a
I'll show you a team with a great chance, at least, to go places.
But a holding midfielder will never be a league MVP, mostly because so much of their important
work is low on the glamour scale.
