The men to earn hate and derision from entire nations take charge of the Euro 2012 next summer
have been given their summons papers, along with, hopefully, a sizable security detail. Refereeing
is one of those jobs that knowing the names at hand isn't necessarily a good thing, as the premier
among them go unnoticed.
It only seems like yesterday since that fateful day back in June of last year when
England's World Cup journey came to a shuddering halt against a young, fast-paced, powerful German
team that showed English fans everything that our team wasn't. Well, here we are only 16 months or
so later, with the first stages of Euro2012 already under our belt following the draw in Poland for
the Group matches, and frankly, nothing much has changed.
As the US national team concluded its 2011 schedule with a 3-2 win over Slovenia, one of the most
impressive new faces on the team is Hoffenheim midfielder Fabian Johnson.
So after seven matches into the Jurgen Klinsmann era of the US men's national team, the final game
of 2011 that was played in Slovenia ended in a flourish with a three to two victory against their

The U.S. Men's National Team pulled off their 1st win in Europe since March of 2008 and their 2nd
win in the Jurgen Klinsmann era with a slim 3-2 victory in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Tuesday night.

In further efforts to kill time before the MLS Final this Sunday, I'll now be doing a general
round up of stuff going on with the league, and with American soccer as a whole. There's actually
been a fair amount of stuff going on.
US FRIENDLIES: In the past week, the US met with France and Slovenia, coming
out of the two matches with a win and a loss.

Serious questions were being asked of the U.S. men's national team's offense after six games in

friendly in Panama City on January 25.

World Cup 2010 gave US fans four full games of drama. Group stage game two was of course against
the relatively-unknown Slovenia. Charlie Brown put a hurt on the Yanks in the 1st half, but the
States would storm back and make more than a game of it.
ESPN2 and Galavision have the USA - Slovenia friendly at noon. Euro 2012 qualifying on ESPN
Deportes: Croatia - Turkey at 2pm and Portugal - Bosnia and Herzegovina at 4pm. The Germany -

United States takes on Slovenia in Ljubljana on Tuesday in a rematch of the thrilling 2010 World
Cup opening-round contest that ended 2-2. The game comes at a time when Slovenia, failing to reach
the 2012 European Championship, is in the midst of rebuilding after the firing last month of coach
Matjaz Kek.
Last Friday we witnessed the US National Team in a tepid display against France. If you missed it,
count yourself lucky as it was rough to watch. Tomorrow the team will have a chance at redemption
against Slovenia. We're likely to see much of the same though. Jurgen Klinsmann hasn't done much to
reassure fans of anything in the past months string of friendlies.

Carlos Bocanegra looks to earn his 100th cap in Slovenia, where he played his first game
for Rangers.
Carlos Bocanegra's move from St. Etienne to Rangers was a whirlwind,
to say the least. Within 24 hours, the U.S. captain signed with the Scottish club, hopped on a
plane to Slovenia, and played in an important Europa League qualifier.
- Carlos Bocanegra earned his 99th cap and could hit the century mark Tuesday against
Slovenia.
- Fabian Johnson collected his first cap for the United States after having received approval
from FIFA for a change of association last month.
- In honor of Veterans Day, the U.S. players will autograph their individual jerseys and donate
them for an online auction to benefit the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Donovan had been named to the 22-man U.S. roster for upcoming friendlies against France and

The U.S. Men's National Team has begun gathering for the final time in 2011, with 19 of the 22

You can add Brek Shea to the list of MLS players who will be training abroad this offseason.
Following the U.S. men's national team's upcoming friendlies against France and Slovenia, Shea
will train with Arsenal of the English Premier League for a month, FC Dallas announced on
Thursday.
Juergen Klinsmann picked 22 players for the U.S. men's national team friendlies at France on
Nov. 11 (3 p.m. ET, ESPN2, Univision, ESPN3.com) and Slovenia on Nov. 15 (noon ET, ESPN2,
Galavision, ESPN3.com).
A few surprises but mostly what you would expect from Klinsmann at this point. It seems as
though Orozco Fiscal has replaced Jonathan Bornstein as the weird defensive call-up that makes no
sense.
Two members of D.C. United, Ethan White and Perry Kitchen, have been named to the
roster for the U.S. Under-23 camp.
Men's National Team head coach Caleb Porter has named 31 players to the roster for the upcoming
training camp in Duisburg, Germany, which also features several players who are age-eligible for
the U.
