What would the NSCAA Convention be without the added excitement (and pressure) of speaking? For
the second year in a row, my good friend and peer Ryan Knapp and I presented together. Ryan and I
met in 2009 at Tweet Blowing the Whistle on Social Media and have bantered back and forth on all
things digital and social media since.

Throughout the last three years, the Los Angeles Galaxy have experience in dealing with the
pressures of important games and in order to bypass the New York Red Bulls on Thursday (11pm EST,
ESPN2), they will need all the cunning at their disposal.
As I've previously posted, I had the chance to speak at the New England Symposium on Statistics
in Sports. They've now posted the videos and slides from all the presentations. I've posted my
video below as well as the slides and original blog post so that all the content is in one place.
Originally I wanted to title my talk "Cool Shit You Can Do With Markov Chains in Soccer" but toned
it down a bit to "A framework for tactical analysis and individual offensive production assessment
in soccer using Markov chains".

Man City got off to a flyer on their own patch last night with a 4-0 rollicking of
newly-promoted Swansea, in which, minutes after Edin Dzeko had opened the scoring, Sergio Aguero
emerged for the last half-an-hour and still managed to bag himself a brace (including a corker from
the edge of the box) and an assist, with his groin-twanging flick setting up David Silva to volley
home City's third goal of the night.
With the Seattle Sounders on their best form of the season and being as healthy as they've been
all year, you would think that projecting the starting lineup would be getting easier. And it is.
But there are still a few questions heading into Monday's game against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The biggest is who starts as the center midfielder next to Osvaldo Alonso?
The clock continues to tick on Chivas USA as the club decides whether to take Benny Feilhaber,
trade him or pass altogether on the U.S. national team midfielder who signed with MLS last week.
Whether you believe Chivas USA might actually consider passing on the chance to select
Feilhaber, and then either keep him or trade him, or you see the rumblings of passing as a ploy to
spark up trade interest, it is clear there are several teams interested in his services.
It's been a bit of a whirlwind since presenting, "Social Media for Coaches," at the 2011 NSCAA
Convention in Baltimore with the one and only Ryan Knapp. A huge thank you to the NSCAA Convention
Committee for inviting us to give this session, my fellow association members and convention
attendees who came to watch, and all of the folks who offered insight and ideas ahead of time.
