Stage 3 of our examination of the financial architecture of the Football League's clubs sees us
head to Coventry. Ian Palmer is a friend and associate of Neil Allison, custodian of the Sky Blues
Blog and here provides his thoughts on the slough of despond facing the Sky Blues, a situation that
has been allowed to develop both on and off the pitch.
Man City's Vincent Kompany is
out of the Carling Cup Semi-Final with Liverpool this
week.
The impressive defender was harshly sent-off in the FA Cup game v Man Utd yesterday.
Doesn't matter, we will take it.
We couldn't get past him the other week when we lost 3-0 to the Sky-blues, he stopped everything we
threw at Man City.

Pundits had been queuing up to say that Manchester City were at the top of a downward spiral.
The suggestion was that after going out of the UEFA Champions League, courtesy of Napoli and Bayern
Munich, and then losing to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the wheels were starting to come off the
great Manchester City roller coaster of 2011.

I would like to start by congratulating Manchester City FC for producing a resounding victory
for football.
By losing to Chelsea last night in the match amusingly referred to by someone on Twitter as "El
Cashico," they have helped demonstrate to the world just how amazing Arsenal's achievement in going
a season unbeaten really was.

Berbatron's Note: Long-time Blues fan Ratna Prashanth tells us what to
expect from the big money battle between the two Blues of the premier league.
Stamford bridge is going to be the venue for a great showdown tomorrow. Its Chelsea vs Man City,
otherwise titled the battle of the 2 BLUE spenders.
The visit of the sky blues of Abu Dhabi to The Home of Football and the subsequent infiltration

It is often stated that the top clubs are set to align themselves with various sponsors (whether
related or otherwise) to ensure that they do not get caught by the FFP regulations.

Manchester City escaped from Anfield with a point. The sky blues had taken the lead in the first
half, thanks to Vincent Kompany's shoulder. Appreciated fortune. Moments later Liverpool responded
in kind, thanks to an enormous deflection off of Joleon Lescott from Charlie Adam's wayward
shot.
`There was no hope left. No one even shouted at the players.' Conversation over post-match drinks
with a Coventry-supporting friend on Tuesday night was dominated by such sentiments. Toning down my
personal delight at City's 3-0 capitulation at Millwall, I murmured in sympathy. The draining away
of hope among the Sky Blues in the Den's North Stand was not dissimilar to the feeling elicited by

Changing Future Roles In Response To The Silva Footballing Age - originally posted on

If there was a certain area in which Manchester City beat Manchester United so assuredly last
weekend, in one of the massive premier league results of recent times, it was the wings.
Where Ashley Young and Nani played the typical winger role, taking on Manchester City's
fullbacks, trying to win those one on one battles, Manchester City's wingers, James Milner and
David Silva, made a point of winning the game elsewhere certainly their involvement in the vital
goals that pushed the Sky Blues clear of United was a mastery of movement rather then setting out
to burn fullbacks.

The European football season gets under way this month but this does not mean that no football
has taken place during July and August. The Copa America, The Women's World Cup, World Cups at U-17
and U-20 levels, as well as major domestic leagues including Brazil, Argentina, the MLS and the
J-League have all seen football action this summer.
Following his contribution to our recent season preview, Coventry blogger Neil Allison has left his
excellent Sky Blues Blog with the childminder once again. This time, Neil files an early progress
report on much-fancied Leicester, who met Cov in 2011-12's first Saturday lunchtime affair.
Leicester City are a club with only one thing on their mind.
Two-time Hyundai A-League Champion Sydney FC have unveiled its 2011/12 adidas home and away kits.
The Sky Blues become the second A-League team to sign a sponsorship deal with adidas along with the
Melbourne Victory. According to the club's website all three Sydney FC teams – Hyundai A-League,

Sergio Aguero playing as a lone striker? It's possible he could play second fiddle to Mario
Balotelli, Edin Dzeko, or even Carlos Tevez during the Premier League season.
£39 million for Aguero is a record signing for the City rich boys, surpassing the £32.5m spent
on flop Robinho but will their new number 16 be worth it?
Coventry City wonderkid Conor Thomas says his shock move to Liverpool FC came too early for
him.
The former Coundon Court schoolboy, who played for Christ the King before being signed up by the
Sky Blues as a kid, revealed his move to the Premier League club – which proved controversial at
the time – came completely out of the blue.
Our latest fat-chewing exercise has put us in the genial company of Neil Allison, landlord of the
Sky Blues Blog, an essential stopping off point for all things Coventry City. If you don't support
the Sky Blues and you think your club is a selling one, read on - although it should be said that
Neil generally just about manages to retain his optimism.
Pacheco's Coventry Move Falls Through
Dani Pacheco's proposed loan move to Coventry has fallen through, the Sky Blues have revealed.
Liverpool would like the player to remain closer to home so they can monitor his progress
throughout the season. Pacheco enjoyed a successful loan spell with Norwich last season, and looked
set to return to the Championship for the forthcoming campaign.
Sky Blues miss out on Pacheco

Coventry City boss Andy Thorn has switched his attention elsewhere after missing out on rising
Liverpool star Dani Pacheco.
The Sky Blues manager had the Spain Under-20 striker lined up to join the club on loan but the deal
has fallen through because the Reds rate him so highly that they want to keep him closer to home.
Valencia just sold Joaquin. for next to nothing. *&%$
Me this morning. When I read the news.
Make no mistake, his influence and importance in the team has certainly dwindled of late, what
with a great crop of players making a step up, But REALLY, Valencia is drowning in a
quick-sand-filled pit of debt, we had to halt development of the Nou Mestalla, we need cash.

The 2011 Premier League season has come to an end and the winners and losers have been decided.
On this week's main report we take a look back at some of the highs and lows of the English
football season.
Sir Alex Ferguson is never content to rest on his laurels, no matter how much success comes the
way of the Scot and the players under his control at Old Trafford. So, it won't come as too much of
a surprise to fans of the club that the wily United manager is planning on bringing a few fresh
faces in over the summer as the Red Devils seek to guard against the predicted rise of the blue
side of Manchester.
Coventry will welcome starlet Conor Thomas back to the club from Liverpool - but the uncertainty
over his long-term future remains.
The promising midfielder made a sensational and controversial loan move to Liverpool in January as
cash-strapped City sought a reported quick fee with the possibility of a larger sum should the move
be made permanent in the summer.

"We are either on the launch pad for success, or we can hover on the brink of disaster," wrote
popular Coventry City ex-chairman Joe Elliott. And as a summary of the Sky Blues' current plight,
it works. The problem is Elliott wrote those words in December 2007. And they now work as an
exposure of the failings of Coventry's owners in the subsequent years, as ‘hovering on the brink
of disaster' has been the club's default position ever since.
Manchester City have spent pretty much the entire season relying upon victories that are only
obtained by the smallest of margins and are often only made secure by their defence performing well
over the course of a game, so it was a real pleasure to see City play at the weekend in a style
that many have been suggesting they are more than capable of doing for some time now, rather than
watching them bore their way to the Champions League as they have been doing for so long.
According to reports in today's press, Celtic boss Neil Lennon is ready to sign Coventry's Ireland
keeper Keiren Westwood in a free transfer swoop.
Lennon wants Westwood to join his top SPL outfit in the summer but may try and tie him to a
pre-contract shortly if he can sort out personal terms with the highly-rated Irish shot-stopper.
England football superstar Steven Gerrard has taken on the job of mentoring Coventry teenager Conor
Thomas since his move to Liverpool.
The Merseyside club's captain has taken the 17-year-old Coundon lad under his wing this week after
he joined from Coventry City.
Staff at Coundon Court School has been told their former pupil is getting lifts to training and
one-to-one sessions with one of the best footballers in the country.
Coventry youngster Conor Thomas has completed a surprise loan move to Liverpool until the end of
the season, with a view to a permanent move, the npower Championship club has confirmed.
Thomas, 17, is the hottest young prospect on the books at the Ricoh Arena and has represented
England at Under-17 level.
Manchester United were made to work hard for a 2-1 FA Cup fourth round win at Southampton on a
day when holders Chelsea were grateful to an equaliser from Salomon Kalou to stay in the
competition.
Michael Owen equalised for United with a close-range header early in the second half and then
before Javier Hernández scored the decisive goal 15 minutes from time after being played in by a
great Ryan Giggs' pass.

In a departure from what some may have expected, this FA Cup tie between Birmingham City and
Coventry City turned into a goal fest. The home side clawed back from a two-goal deficit to end up
the victors, 3-2.

BIRMINGHAM FORM: For a side who has been busy in both the League as well as making the Carling
