Martin Skrtel is having a superb season for Liverpool, and alongside Daniel Agger, he is part of
one of the most formidable central defensive partnerships in the Premier league. Liverpool
Assistant manager is not getting carried away though, and suggests that Skrtel can still be dropped
if he doesn't maintain his high standards.
Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel have forged a fantastic central defensive partnership over the last
couple of months, but who is currently playing the best out of the two?Like most great defensive
partnerships, Agger and Skrtel complement each other very well. Skrtel is the Carra/Lawrenson-esque
'last-ditch' scrapper, whereas Agger is the more elegant, Hansen-esque ball-player.
Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have proved to be a superb defensive partnership for Liverpool over
the last month, and their excellent performances have helped the club achieve the best defensive
record in the league.Liverpool legend John Aldridge recently described Skrtel as an 'accident
waiting to happen', but in his weekly column for the Liverpool Echo, the former striker seemed to

Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger are doing a great job in defence for Liverpool at the moment, but
former Anfield defender Mark Wright insists that the club is not currently playing its best

Liverpool's best current defensive partnership.
Martin Skrtel is a star performer in Liverpool's defence at the moment, and he's kept defensive
stalwart Jamie Carragher out of the team with his solid, assured performances. However, according
to Liverpool legend John Aldridge, Skrtel's form has been a concern in the past, and he has a

A recent survey on this site revealed that 87% of Liverpool fans who voted want Martin Skrtel and
Daniel Agger as the club's first choice central defensive partnership. After a great performance by
the duo against West Brom at the weekend, they've certainly staked their claim, but are they as
good as the league's top defenders?
Liverpool kept a clean sheet for only the second time in 11 games against West Brom yesterday, and
a key part of the excellent defensive display was the effectiveness of Daniel Agger and Martin
Skrtel. Should they now stay as Liverpool's first choice central defensive partnership?
Agger and Skrtel have played together as a partnership (without Carra) only 11 times in the last 4
years, with mixed results:
Played - 11
Won - 6
Drew - 2
Lost - 3
Goals conceded - 10
Clean sheets - 5
When Carra returns from injury, should he go straight back into the team, or should Kenny Dalglish
stick with Agger and Skrtel?
