Yes, it's only five games into the season. Yes, the Union have let us down before. But the time for cautious optimism is over.
As Philadelphia sports fans, we are all too familiar with the pain that comes with a disappointing season. We've seen it time and time again. The Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies all have long and storied histories of coming up just short of greatness.
Everybody reacts to the Chris Albright signing. Albright himself says, "For me growing up in
Philadelphia and loving the game and playing it all over the area, to have a cathedral for soccer
in Philly, it's special."
CSN Philly: "This was definitely my first choice," said Albright.
Before we get the attendance numbers from the July 4th holiday, the big business story that
burst onto the scene at the end of last week was the announcement that Philadelphia 76ers minority
owners Erick Thohir and Jason Levien will join current owner Will Chang in ownership of DC United.
 According to ESPN.
The Philadelphia 76ers surprised a lot of people in the 2012 National Basketball Association
playoffs, partially due to Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose suffering an injury that knocked
him out of the series. Veteran power forward Elton Brand was a catalyst for the team's progression
over the course of the year and helped the Sixers almost upset the Boston Celtics, who nearly made
the NBA Finals.
Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls had homecourt advantage throughout the 2012 NBA Playoffs.
They appeared to have a good chance of winning a championship. However, all those hopes and dreams
came crashing down to earth on Saturday when Derrick Rose suffered a torn ACL.
Due to the torn ACL, Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the playoffs and might not be ready to
begin next season.
One rumor making the rounds in the NBA has the Philadelphia 76ers interested in Amare Stoudemire
of the New York Knicks. Although Stoudemire is off to a slow start this season, another team may
want to acquire him and surround him with better players.
It's easy to throw the Philadelphia Union into the overall sports landscape, but is it an accurate measuring stick?
Forget about the mistakes of the Sixers that have left them moribund in the crawlspace beneath the NBA's Eastern Conference. Forget about the mistakes of the Flyers, who are now entering their fourth decade without sipping from Lord Stanley's Cup.
