I decided to take a week off after Miami FC's season ended. But now I'm back and as promised here
is some more Miami MLS info. I'll start off with an anonymous comment made on the last post written
by Burrito below. It states that David Beckham is interested in starting an MLS team in Miami.
A source said: "Beckham does not want to go into management when his playing career
ends and is now focused on owning a club.

UM02 May want to get ready to welcome Becks...
Could David Beckham teaming up with the ever vocal, Joey Saputo? Strange as that may sound
according to at least one insider the two have spoken of the possibility.

And according to a person with knowledge of Beckham's planning who spoke on condition of anonymity
because of concerns about jeopardizing any potential deal, Beckham and his management team at 19
Entertainment (led by Simon Fuller) and Creative Artists Agency (led by Jeff Frasco) are interested
in partnering with Joey Saputo, the owner of the Montreal Impact (the club now plays in United

Here at the BigSoccer World Journalism Headquarters and Storm Door Company, where we leave no stone
unturned in our pursuit of truth, justice and a decent pastrami on rye, we like to think of
ourselves as chameleons. (Except for Ollie, of course. He's a karma chameleon. He comes and
goes.)
So when it's important - or when we've got nothing else to talk about - we're more than happy to

The match between LA Galaxy and Milan was always, in view of the recent goings-on between David
Beckham and the Italian giants, going to be something of a powder keg, and the global media
reaction to the events at the decidedly unromantically named Home Depot Center has said a lot about
how Beckham has managed to control the public perception of him.

If you were an LA Galaxy fan in 2007 and 2008 like I was, reading Grant Wahl's "The Beckham
Experiment" is a bit like looking at old photos of a much-anticipated yet ultimately tragic
vacation: "Here's the plane ride. Here's the waterfall... And here's Aunt Marge, right before she
got eaten by the crocodile.

Failure is almost always a more interesting subject for a book than success. Grant Wahl did not
originally intend to spend 16 months following the dramatic disaster that was the David Beckham
Experiment in America: but when Beckham's celebrated arrival as the saviour of American soccer
degenerated into a farce of injuries and infighting at the Galaxy, the juicy tale of how the
biggest investment in American soccer history resulted in one of the worst team meltdowns ever in
MLS became the story he had to follow all the way through.

I enjoyed it, and I suspect any hardcore MLS fan would as well. All the biggest revelations have
already been publicized, but there's plenty of interesting anecdotes and many details about the LA
Galaxy power players. Those details are the reason to read this book (such as how Alexi Lalas
vetoed a proposed Peter Vagenas for Kyle Beckerman trade), as everyone who follows American soccer
already knows how the story goes.

The Beckham Experiment arrived via FedEx earlier this afternoon. My advance copy
arrives one day before the book goes on sale. Oh well, I'm just a lowly blogger chick. *wink*
I'll be reading through and sharing thoughts as I do. It has been bumped to the top of my
reading list but will still take me several days to finish.
