With Ryan Johnson putting in two goals and a number of all-action performances coming all over the pitch, picking a Man of the Match from yesterday's game is not easy.
So, who was the Timbers' stand-out player in the team's intense fight back against the Red Bulls? Here are our votes:
What a game, right? It had it's highs, it's lows and it's moments of sheer exhilaration. Throughout it all, the Portland Timbers seemed to never give up the hope that they could win earn all three points. Unfortunately, they'll settle for a draw, partly due to the defensive woes of a single player: Mikael Silvestre.
The Portland Timbers practiced today at Jeld-Wen Field ahead of this Sunday's match up against the New York Red Bulls. Practice opened with the usual warm-ups followed by the team splitting into two groups for games of keep away. One of the two groups consisting of Sunday's presumed starters included the recently returned Mikael Silvestre playing alongside Andrew Jean-Baptiste at center back.
Yesterday saw the Portland Timbers' first major game, in front of a home audience, without Mikael Silvestre since preseason began. While things were going very well in the final third, the defensive backline was downright woeful at times. At this point it's painfully clear that a veteran centerback defender is needed and that Silvestre would be the ideal candidate for the position.
Shortly after yesterday's conference call with the Seattle media the Sounders announced that trialist Mikael Silvestre is no longer with the team. At the time of the call they held his Discovery Rights which means that if Portland had wanted to sign him an arrangement would have been necessary. Sigi Schmid also explained his thoughts on draftees Eriq Zavaleta and Dylan Remick not playing as well as how Djimi Traore is doing.
With the Timbers' off season roster moves continuing to come this week, it was no surprise that the group in practice this morning saw several changes from the group that left for Arizona. The biggest news was the departure of Mikael Silvestre who, after a three week trial, is no longer training with the team.
In a sign of just how shallow the Seattle Sounders are in terms of experience at center back, former-Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre is now training with them after apparently being let go by the Portland Timbers. The 35-year-old most recently played for Germany's Werder Bremen and has spent time with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
Just a couple weeks ago now, the Portland Timbers were just starting their first training sessions. It was an ordinary pre-season training session filled with trialists and the like. One trialist of the bunch, however, was not like the others. Instead of attempting to bounce back from a recent MLS team waive, or come up from one of the lower division leagues, this player was from some of the greatest clubs in the world.

With a career spanning more than a decade across four of Europe's best leagues, Mikael Silvestre is a journeyman of not just the Premier League, but European football as a whole. We caught up with the former French international to discuss matters past, present and future earlier this week.
I have some good news for Gooners! by AH Now, please take note that the title is sarcastic, but I
thought that this recent piece of news would be good to share with the readers on justarsenal.com.
According to a few media outlets including the Daily Mail, Mikael Silvestre will soon return to
Arsenal to [.
I won't pretend to be a research doctorate in Annual General Meetings and their various
intricacies. To be frank, I see it as a stage-managed social exercise conducted with an outer view
to placate and appease supporters; but with most of the genuine concerns and queries being
spin-doctored away by murmuring sweet nothings into said supporters' ears.
" I am positive because we have good quality and a style of play that is known by the
players. So we want to add not quality but super quality."
So said Arsene Wenger in his press conference amongst many other things including the fact that
Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri did not make the flight to Benfica for Arsenal's final pre-season
match.
Former board member Nina Bracewell- Smith says its time to let go of Cesc
The Catalonians come back as anticipated with an improved bid for Cesc Fabregas now seemingly
more determined than ever to bring closure to this long ordeal. For their part Arsenal seem to be
equal partners in this negotiation process for the first time.
Today Arsene Wenger held his pre-match press conference and he discussed the possibility of signing
a defender, the future of useless keeper Almunia and the future of Andrey Arshavin. We all know I
want a new defender, a proper defender and no quick-fit half cop center-back like Silvestre or
Squillaci however it seems this is [.
It is astoundingly clear that Arsene Wenger needs to splash out on a center-back. The overall
quality of players we have there is not good enough firstly Squillaci is a poor mans Silvestre,
Koscielny has very good technique and will develop into a good defender but at the moment he is
error prone and [.
All of last season and even at the end of the summer transfer window I was one of the few who
maintained that Arsenal didn't need a new Keeper. Almost halfway through the season many fans have
come to accept this while some still go on about a Keeper signing with complete disregard to facts
and what actually happens on the pitch.

Season Preview: Catania Opening/Recap Catania finished last season in a relatively comfortable 13th
position, exactly the same as the season before earning a point more in the process- which was a
record for the club for the third year in a row. The side featured an exciting mix of stalwarts and
rising youngsters, such as Matias Silvestre and Ezequiel Schelotto.
Apparently, they missed each other too. Bless! (Getty Images/Daylife)
Has something been missing from your life over the last few weeks? Have you found your mind
drifting to thoughts of designer stubble, flying helmest, pigtails and inappropriately over the top
displays of manlove while you're idly choosing yet another choccie from the selection box you
‘liberated' from an elderly and slightly infirm family member?
Nothing went right for Barcelona in the first 30 minutes. Real were rampant running all over
Barca not allowing them a whiff of the ball. It took two defensive errors to turn things around at
the Bernabeu as Pepe who made his return in this leg volleyed deep into the Barca defense.
One doesn't quite know what Mascherano was thinking but he completely misjudges the trajectory
and a lurking Gonzalo Higuain latches onto the ball and clear onto the goal making no mistake.

While one of the greatest players in the world was fluffing chances left right and centre, a
player who thinks he 's one of the greatest in the world was doing the business for Denmark.
Nicklas Bendtner showed his good side against Portugal on Wednesday night, netting twice, but
still ending up on the losing side as Portugal, despite seeing their captain Cristiano Ronaldo
fluff some fine chances, dug deep to secure a last-gasp win to keep Group B wide open ahead of the
mast match-day.
Substitute Silvestre Varela scored a late winner to ensure Portugal kept their chances of
advancing out of Group B alive.
Portugal were pushed all the way and survived a two-goal comeback from a Nicklas Bendtner-inspired
Denmark to triumph 3-2 at the Lviv Arena.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo was guilty of missing some clear chances throughout the match but
was spared as Varela popped up to thump home the winner.
Germany is making survival in the Group of Death look rather clinical.
The Germans won their second straight tough match at Euro 2012, dispatching the Netherlands 2-1
behind two goals from Mario Gomez to maintain first place in Group B and all but seal their place
in the knockout stage.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal survived to live another day in the highly competitive Group B as
goals from Pepe, Helder Postiga, and Silvestre Varela secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Denmark.
Having lost their group opener to Germany on Saturday, Portugal came into today's clash with the
Danes knowing that anything less than a win would take destiny out of their hands.
Nothing is certain but death and taxes... and not losing to Spurs. They may score from the half
way line in the last minute, plain for all to see, but it won't be given. They may be 3-0 up at
half-time, but we'll score five in the second half. They may believe they have a freekick after one
of our players blatantly handballs it, but the ref will play advantage and we will score a goal
regardless.

While neither of Wednesday's games quite managed to measure up to the fireworks in Warsaw on
Tuesday, what looked to be one of the most interesting days of the group stage heading into the

Spurs may have been sweating on the fitness of Emmanuel Adebayor and Moussa Dembele ahead of tonight's Europa League Cup tie but our opponents have far more cause for concern ahead of the first leg. Inter Milan could be without five first team players at White Hart Lane this evening.
Inter's boss Andrea Stramaccioni has called six youth team players into his squad as cover for a list of players that includes MatÃas Silvestre ,Yuto Nagatomo ,Andrea Ranocchia, Walter Samuel and Fredy Guarin.
Having been linked variously with Chris Samba, Scott Dann, Kevin Doyle and Kieran Richardson
over the last twelve months, it is quite understandable that's there has been a palpable sense of
excitement around Arsenal this week. The acquisition of Santi Cazorla represents the third signing
this summer that I have actually heard of.
