Goals of the Week: Giornata 11

The Offside: Italy 03 November @ 11:32 AM EST

A few nice goals this week, but nothing extraordinary. Giuseppe Mascara scored one of his trademark wonder-goals, and Marco Borriello got back on the scoresheet with 2 goals (the second a nice scissor kick) after almost a year. Diego Milito got back to his scoring ways as well after being absent through injury, and Mirko Vucinic finally scored his first goal of the season.

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 11

The Offside: Italy 02 November @ 03:18 PM EST

Napoli won vs. Juventus in Torino for the first time since November 20, 1988, when Maradona's Napoli won 5-3. Since then, there had been 11 wins and 5 ties, and Napoli hadn't scored in Torino since March of 1998. This Napoli side has been rejuvenated under Walter Mazzarri, and they have shown they have a never say die attitude that keeps them working for the full 90 minutes.

The Biggest Serie A Flops of the Last 9 years

The Offside: Italy 29 October @ 10:51 AM EST

Although we are only 10 games into the season, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is starting to look more and more like a big flop. 15 million euro were spent on the Dutch striker, and even if he reaches 5 goals this season it would seem like a big achievement. Sure you can say that he needs time to adapt to a new style of play, new language, new culture, but it's already November almost and we still have not seen Huntelaar's name on the score sheet.

Who Said the Serie A Wasn’t Entertaining?

SoccerLens 29 October @ 03:51 AM EST

What a tumultuous ten weeks it has been. When the season kicked off, even the most Italian-friendly pundits were predicting that this season, dubbed 'Year Zero' by the AC Milan fans, would be the dullest season in Italian history.

But it is now clear how wrong that prediction was. In the first two games of the season, most predictions were proven true as AC Milan were pummelled 4-0 by rivals Inter Milan, while Roma slumped to two successive defeats and Genoa and Juve both played with style.

Goals of the Week: Giornata 9

The Offside: Italy 27 October @ 09:42 AM EST

I didn't put up a Weekend Round-up yesterday because I figured with the midweek round tomorrow, it would be pointless to update everything twice. So we'll dive in straight to Goals of the Week. Not as great as last week, but still some good goals, especially Daniele Mannini's one-time volley vs.

European Ticker: Robinho repeats Barca dream, Iaquinta injured and more

Soccer By Ives 26 October @ 04:28 PM EST

by FRANCO PANIZO

If Manchester City attacker Robinho's hidden desire is to play for Barcelona then he is not doing a good job at keeping it a secret.

On Monday, Robinho told a Brazilian radio station he is happy with the interest Barcelona has in him, and that he thinks it is much easier to become the world's best player with them than with Manchester City.

Menisco anche per Iaquinta

Juventus Blogger's Corner 26 October @ 08:53 AM EST

Is Genoa Crumbling?

Serie A Talk 26 October @ 01:54 AM EST

Genoa's disappointment of 3-0 result against Lille

A couple of weeks ago, Genoa was the epitome of Italian football, a beautiful attacking 3-4-3 which created a myriad of scoring chances while entertaining the crowd. Now, Genoa lost the last two Europa League matches, the latest a 3-0 loss to Lille.

Goals of the Week: Giornata 8

The Offside: Italy 20 October @ 04:27 PM EST

This is going to be a good goals of the week post. There are many nice goals, and in particular the goals from Stankovic and Dessena are awesome to watch. Goals after the jump.

Dejan Stankovic vs. Genoa Stankovic notices that Amelia makes an error on the clearance and moves to the right, hitting the ball on the volley from way out and it sailed over Amelia and into the net.

Serie A and B Weekend Round-up: Giornata 8

The picture on the left is the photo sequence of Dejan Stankovic's 54 meter long strike vs Genoa on Saturday. Marco Amelia messed up his clearance, and Stankovic coordinated a beautiful volley that sailed over Amelia and bounced into the net. Goals from midfield are always nice to look at.

Sorry I didn't get up a weekend round-up yesterday, it was a really busy day. However I don't want to disrupt the weekly order so I'll go straight to Goals of the Week. Last week was probably the worst goals of the week post of all time. I think this week made up for it with some quality strikes.

Starting out in Ohio, where No. 1 Akron faced their biggest test of the year against No. 15 Ohio State. A record-setting crowd of 2,473 were on hand to watch the Zips record a comprehensive 3-0 win against the Buckeyes Wednesday night.

Goals of the Week: Giornata 6

The Offside: Italy 29 September @ 04:41 PM EST

I'm just going to throw it out there: this might be the worst goals of the week post of all time. Nothing spectacular at all this weekend, most goals were very plain and ordinary. Of the 18 goals scored this weekend, about 3 are top goal worthy. But let's see this week's goals of the week (hoping that Giornata 7 brings us better ones):

Always a Rossoneri, in both good and bad times

AC Milan Blog 29 September @ 01:00 AM EST
Well, as we know things are not great. In fact, they are worse than bad. Our team is languishing in 11th position. Lessons Learned From Giornata 6

Serie A Talk 29 September @ 01:00 AM EST

Two words to describe this weekend's action: low scoring. No team scored more than 2 goals during their match, and the highest combined goal total was 3 (Napoli's 2-1 win over Siena). However, a more appropriate word may be clarity, as we now can begin to see more clearly the strengths and weaknesses of many clubs, whether they be contenders (Sampdoria!

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 6

The Offside: Italy 28 September @ 03:54 PM EST

Sampdoria are top of the table alone for the first time in 18 years. A week ago I wrote an article saying that Sampdoria could be the surprise of the season, and right now that hypothesis is still holding up. While it's almost impossible for them to win the scudetto and considering the fact that Gigi Del Neri's teams usually suffer a drop in form after the winter break, they should be challenging for a spot in Europe next season, whether that be Europa League or Champions League that remains to be seen.

Video of the week: Serie A Bloopers (including a mistake by Buffon!)

The Offside: Italy 25 September @ 04:41 PM EST

I always like to watch videos of bloopers, and this time I've found a Serie A blooper video from the early 2000's. Always entertaining, and it includes a mistake from Buffon!! (how often do you see those?)

And since we're on the topic of Buffon mistakes, here's another one I remember from a couple of years ago:
