GolBlog 01 July @ 04:07 AM EDT

Cari juventini tifiamo Bologna?

Players of the Season

The Offside: Italy 29 June @ 11:08 AM EDT

It's been nearly a month since the end of the 2008/2009 Serie A season. I would've put this post up earlier, but the Confederations Cup and the U-21 Championship distracted me from Serie A talk. So I thought we'd discuss who was the best foreign player and who was the best Italian player this season.

Transfer Tuesdays

The Offside: Italy 23 June @ 10:32 AM EDT

I thought now that the season is over and we've moved into the craziness of the off season where transfer rumors are posted by the minute on every calcio website possible, I would start a new weekly post called "Transfer Tuesdays" where we can sift through all these rumors and see what all 20 Serie A teams are up to during this summer's calciomercato.

The Amaranto got two goals from their two star players Francesco Tavano and Alessandro Diamanti before Martin Bergvold added a third. The promotion is a great joy for Livorno, who were expected to be a force in Serie B this season and grab an automatic promotion place.

Serie A to change game times for 2010-2011 season

The Offside: Italy 20 June @ 11:47 AM EDT

The 2010-2011 season will be a little different for Serie A. The collective bargaining tv rights will go into effect which should mean more money for the little teams as the tv rights are shared throughout the whole league similar to the EPL model. But this also means they have decided to follow the EPL model in regards to schedule as well.

Siena: Vicino l'acquisto di Lucas Viatri dal Boca Juniors

Calcioplus 06 June @ 09:08 AM EDT

Three coaching vacancies filled

The Offside: Italy 05 June @ 02:37 PM EDT

So, three clubs have now officially ended their search for a new boss. Atalanta, Juventus, and surprisingly Palermo have all appointed new managers today. Atalanta and Juventus choosing a new manager was expected, but Palermo appointing someone new was very surprising, especially considering that Davide Ballardini hasn't even been fired yet.

Serie A Statistics 2008-2009

The Offside: Italy 02 June @ 06:11 PM EDT

So we all know in American sports there are statistics for everything. On base percentage, field goal percentage, runs batted in, how many times a player blows his nose at half-time, etc. Soccer as a whole is relatively new to statistics, and especially Italian calcio. Up until a few years ago assists weren't even recorded.

So since this is the last time we'll be seeing Serie A goals until late August, this week I figured I'd show a video of all the goals of week 38. Since it was the last day and most teams were just playing for fun, there were many goals, and many nice ones to boot. There is also a video of all 25 of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goals that won him the capocannoniere title this season.

The last day of the season was a Sunday of goodbyes. Goodbye Maldini (retirement), goodbye Nedved (retirement, but may come back with another team), goodbye Figo (retirement, desk job with Inter probably), goodbye Ancelotti (Chelsea), goodbye Mazzarri (has to look for a team), goodbye Zenga (all signs are pointing towards Lazio, but maybe taking a year off), goodbye Quagliarella (signed for Napoli), goodbye Torino, Lecce, and Reggina (Serie B), goodbye Milito and Thiago Motta (off to Inter), goodbye Serie A every weekend, and then the two almost goodbyes that will be followed all summer by the press are those of Ibrahimovic and Kaka (who if reports are right will be playing each other in La Liga next season).

Lippi said in recent weeks that the roster for the Northern Ireland match would be mainly experimental and would give national team experience to the players that merited a call-up based on their play throughout the Serie A season.

Finalmente!!

Juventus Blogger's Corner 25 May @ 03:54 AM EDT

Video: AS Roma 3 Milan 2

Soccerblog 24 May @ 05:12 PM EDT

Link:

John Arne Riise finally nails one with a blistering shot. Ambrosini answers in the second half as Artur parries Inzaghi's shot into his path. Menez puts the Giallorossi up catching the Milan defense flatfooted. I have to say this was not one of Maldini's best games. Ambrosini responds seconds later as Artur fails to stop Kaka's cross.

Siena - JUVENTUS 0-3

Juventus Blogger's Corner 24 May @ 12:57 PM EDT

Juventus Blogger's Corner 22 May @ 08:00 AM EDT

Inter make it 17 and 4 in a row!

Inter celebrated their 17th Scudetto and the 4th one in a row in front of a packed home crowd with a 3-0 drubbing of Siena. Goals came from Cambiasso, Balotelli and Ibrahimovic. It's time for another post of beautiful goals from the peninsula. There were 32 goals scored this weekend, and here we'll have a selection of the best of week 36.

Simone Perrotta vs. Catania - Mirko Vucinic does all the work to win the ball near Catania's area, and Perrotta makes a perfect run (which he is famous for) and heads home Vucinic's perfect cross.

Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 36

The Offside: Italy 18 May @ 11:05 AM EDT

We've expected it for most of the year, but this weekend Inter were officially crowned Campioni D'Italia for the 17th time (now they are level with Milan for all-time Scudetto wins, but both clubs are still 10 behind Juventus). For those that don't understand the banner. "Il Biscione" (the snake) is the traditional symbol of Inter, and it says "Il Biscione is the champion again".
