Eurosport's international football coverage, as unique as it remains in the field of sports
broadcasting and run on a shoestring budget, remains excellent. And this year's ACN coverage has
been as comprehensive and well-informed as ever. But, as Groups B and D came to their conclusions,
well... oops.
Old foes Everton and Liverpool will lock horns once more at Goodison Park on Saturday in the 216th
Merseyside derby.
For David Moyes it is the chance to build on some steadily improving home form that has seen the
Blues recover from that shock opening game defeat to QPR to go unbeaten in their last four games in
all competitions in front of their own supporters.
Major League Soccer and the NBC Sports Group announced earlier today that they have entered into
a three-year deal that will see 45 MLS matches and four U.S. Men's National Team matches broadcast
across NBC and Versus (soon to be known as the NBC Sports Network) a year starting in 2012. NBC
will replace Fox Soccer Channel as the league's secondary national English broadcast partner in a
move that is sure to excite everyone involved in MLS: its Commissioner and league office, its
teams, its sponsorship partners and, perhaps most importantly, its fans.
I am an Arsenal fan. (It sounds like one's first words at the first address of a self-help
meeting.) I check the Web every day to see if finally the drip-drip waterboard torture is finally
over and we've either signed someone (I quadruple finger-crossed on the Juan Mata deal; I'm still
doing so) or resolved anything with regard to Fabregas and/or Nasri.
Liverpool is ready to make an audacious move to sign Everton left back Leighton Baines as Anfield
boss Kenny Dalglish looks to resolve the club's problem left back area.
Dalglish had been linked with a move to sign Gael Clichy but the French international opted to move
to Man City and the pursuit of Newcastle United full back Jose Enrique appears to have lost
momentum as Alan Pardew looks to keep the Spaniard at St James' Park.
I am convinced that He does not play dice...
David Gold has insisted no stone will be left unturned as West Ham strive to
ensure they appoint the right manager as
Avram Grant's successor. Gold and
co-owner
David Sullivan are looking to bring in a replacement as quickly as
possible so that the new man has time to start preparing for next season.

Billy Beane made "Moneyball" and sabermetrics household names in baseball by using tangible
statistics to evaluate talent. The Boston Red Sox and Beane-disciple Theo Epstein were able to
translate these theories into World Championships.
Whether John W. Henry and New England Sports Ventures - owners of the Boston Red Sox - have been
able to apply those same principles as the new owners of the Liverpool Football Club remains to be
seen.
Arsenal: to keep Vermaelen and Fabregas fit
Wenger's men have managed to keep within touching distance of the top of the table without their
first choice outfield spine. While Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh have made up for the injuries
to Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen has been badly missed and Arsenal fans know
they need him playing if they are to mount a serious title challenge.
