Outside midfield trialists Ryan Smith and Igor Kostrov joined the senior roster, while central
midfield trialist Craig Rocastle has agreed to terms with the team but won't be added to the roster
until he receives his P1 visa.

If U.S. national team fans were unconcerned about the firepower that Slovenia and Algeria
possess, they likely changed their tunes after the goals scored this weekend.Â
There was a combined four goals netted and Algerian midfielder Abdelkader Ghezzal accounted for
two of them in Siena's shocking comeback draw against Juventus.

Landon Donovan's arrival at Goodison Park has been nothing short of successful for Everton,
with the club losing just once in its last six league games since the American star's arrival.
Donovan will look to extend that good run of results this weekend, as he faces Manchester United
for the first time in his career.

Romance is all very well, but the cold, hard truth is that Crystal Palace need money. With a ten
point deduction having almost certainly put paid to their ambitions of making the play-offs for a
place in the Premier League, the FA Cup is their best chance of making some money this season. If
they're going to get to the latter stages of the competition, though, they are being made to do it
the hard way.

Forest, and they are now 4 points behind Newcastle on 55 points [.

Five little words were all it took, five little words to stifle the whispers and the complaints, to
lace that fatalism with a flicker of optimism. Five words that David Sullivan uttered like some
spell, immediately changing the mood. "John Hartson and Paul Kitson." Few were impressed this week
when West Ham admitted they were chasing Benni McCarthy and Eidur Gudjohnsen, writes Sid Lowe in
this morning's Guardian.

Despite having pulled the Black Cats' tails seven times last Saturday, Chelsea go into the weekend
in 2nd place with the Arse having played a game more leading the pace. To be fair, since Chelsea
murdered Arsenal at the Emirates, Arsehole Whingers boys have been on an impressive run of form
recently, which makes the meeting between both sides at the Bridge on February 7th a mouthwatering
prospect.

I hate watching games on internet streams. One, my internet connection isn't good enough and two
invariably the streams aren't either. So last night was like 90 minutes of that good old
competition ‘What Happened Next?' Rosicky with the ball, shrugs off a defender, lines up a shot
freeze frame.

Barnsley have a more than decent photographer. The anger over the most prominent of our plethora
of penalty appeals on Saturday is justified;   Mark Robins didn't want O'Neil Thompson at the
club. He played twice for us. I remember a good start for him in Robins first game in charge,
before he was inexplicably taken off on 20 minutes.

Losing to Wednesday is never nice, but this felt particularly hard. Why is easy to say. We played
so, so very badly. The worst we've played under Robins, probably worse than we played first game of
the season. The midfield went forwards disastrously badly, and the forwards changed our dimensions
of play almost not at [.

When United travelled to Turf Moor earlier in the season they suffered at the hands of the
Clatrets fine start to the season. Burnley ran out 1-0 winners that day, and fair play to them they
deserved it, but it should be a very different affair this time around.
Back then the Lancashire side were managed by the imposing and impressive figure of Owen
Coyle.

For obvious reasons, the match of the weekend is probably West Brom's trip to Newcastle, or at
least that's what the media will tell us. Rather than toeing the line, I think I'll leave that to
others and focus instead on a game of true Championship grit which will almost certainly be every
bit as entertaining: Mark Robin's up-and-at-'em Barnsley at home to Sheffield Wednesday, led for

I've had a soft spot for Brian Laws dating back to 1989 when John Aldridge patted him on the head
in thanks for an own goal in an FA Cup Semi Final that Nottingham Forest were almost morally
disallowed from winning, coming as it did in the wake of Hillsborough. Liverpool achieved partial
solace by going on to win the Cup but Laws retained my strong sympathy for this maltreatment.

Many Burnley fans seem to be wholly unimpressed with Laws' appointment, but consider that he did
a very good job at Sheffield Wednesday, on very limited resources; he deserves his chance to take
the hot seat at a Prem club.
