Don't give up the day job, Shaun It's easy to forget how far Manchester City have come in the last
couple of years. Back in 2009 they were toying with the idea of making Shaun Wright Phillips their
goalkeeper. But the diminutive winger's fledgling career between the sticks was brought to a
premature end when [.

The Mark Hughes Era Begins: Good luck to Mark Hughes.
Neil Warnock's sacking by QPR after a run of just two points from their last eight league
matches was not as much of a surprise as one would expect. Warnock had not only saved the club from
relegation after joining from Crystal Palace during the 2009-10 season but led Rangers to the
Championship title in his full season.
New Years Eve brought Queens Park Rangers to the Emirates for the final match of the 2011
calendar year, and van Persie's last chance to match or break Shearer's record.
Wenger rang in the changes to the starting line up from the disappointing draw versus Wolves on
Tuesday, with Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and a surprising Andrei Arshavin getting starts.
Ryan Taylor had his worst game for Newcastle since he was taken to the cleaners by Shaun
Wright-Phillips at QPR early in the season. Micah Richards rifles home the second goal for Man
City But Ryan's overall play since the QPR game has improved dramatically, but on Saturday he was
responsible for Manchester City's two goals in three minutes just before half time, with two
uncharacteristic errors.

Arsenal teen-sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks to have 'some shot on him', as a pundit
might say, judging from this video on FATV.
The attacker was filmed whilst training with the England U21 side, and rifled the ball into the
back of the net from distance with both feet (obviously not at the same time).

There's a odd aspect of history that I'm often drawn to think about. It's the
degrees-of-separation game extended through time. Consider this as an example: I know a woman who
as a teenager in Jamaica met T. S. Eliot, whose grandmother she lived next door to him in St. Louis
remembered her great-uncle John Adams, who once, when living in Paris, met Voltaire at the
theatre.

SWP's baby seat We missed this on Friday must have clocked off but QPR sent out a search party
ahead of their match against Wolves at the weekend when Shaun Wright Phillips failed to arrive for
dinner at the hotel. Midfielder Joey Barton tweeted a photograph of the England international's
vacant monogrammed high [.

Admittedly, I didn't see the game but from what I've read this morning it seemed like Newcastle
were lucky to escape from Loftus Road with a point last night (goal-line clearances, Jay Bothroyd's
pap finishing, etc) as a new-look, post-deadline day QPR XI hit the ground running with, and I know
this may be a little hard to swallow, Shaun Wright-Phillips even putting in a decent, effective
shift.

QPR boss Neil Warnock has warned Newcastle United that a loud home support awaits their trip to
Loftus Road ahead of tonight's clash between the two sides.
Warnock, who signed several experienced top flight stars such Luke Young and Shaun
Wright-Phillips before the closing of the summer transfer window, has singled out former Magpies
midfielder Joey Barton as the club's most significant acquisition and tipped the presence of the
controversial player to light up the atmosphere.
Did you see that remarkable stat this week that, before the game against Wales, Scott Parker had
won seven caps for England under three different managers over the course of 8 years whilst playing
for five different clubs?
Nothing like consistency of selection, eh?
Since his debut against Denmark in 2003, the following players have been capped in (broadly)
midfield:
Alan Thompson (1 cap)
Shaun Wright-Phillips (36 caps)
Stewart Downing (29 caps)
Kieran Richardson (8 caps)
Theo Walcott (18 caps)
Aaron Lennon (19 caps)
Joey Barton (1 cap)
David Bentley (7 caps)
Ashley Young (17 caps)
Gabby Agbonglahor (3 caps)
James Milner (19 caps)
Tom Huddlestone (3 caps)
Adam Johnson (8 caps)
Jack Wilshere (5 caps)
Now, of those, the most capped are basically wingers: Wright-Phillips, Downing, Walcott, Lennon,
Young, Milner.

Shaun Wright-Phillips seems to like rich men and rich men seem to like Sean Wright-Phillips.
Yesterday, the under-achieving, fleet-footed stepson of Arsenal legend Ian Wright squeezed his way
out of the overcrowded Manchester City dressing room yesterday and followed the money yet again,
this time to join Premier League wealthy new-boys Queens Park Rangers.
New Queens Park Rangers signing Shaun Wright-Phillips has spoken about his determination to be
successful at his new club, proving some people wrong in the process.
The England winger joined the newly promoted club from big-spending Manchester City on transfer
deadline day for an undisclosed fee.

Phew! It was that time again, and as per usual things were manic. We at In The Stands struggled to
keep up with all the kerfuffle and constant will-he-wont-he debacles. However, after much
journalistic endeavours, we have managed to finally pin down the most significant transfers on a
thoroughly exciting last day of the transfer window.
Premier League new boy's QPR have signed un-wanted Newcastle midfielder Joey
Barton on a four year contract which will see him at Loftus Road until 2015.
And Barton could be joined at the club by both Shaun Wright Phillips and Luke Young after bids
for the duo were accepted by Manchester City and Aston Villa respectively.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has admitted that his side would like to sign Manchester City winger
Shaun Wright-Phillips, although raised concerns over the player's wages.
Wright-Phillips hasn't seen much playing time at Manchester City since returning from Chelsea,
and would be a welcome addition at the Reebok Stadium as Coyle builds another strong Bolton
side.

According to the Daily Star, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is lining up a move for
wantaway Tottenham midfielder Niko Kranjcar. The Croatian has been unsettled at White Hart Lane for
months now, and Bruce is reportedly aiming to sign the midfielder before this weekend's opener.
The report also indicated that the move could be a season-long loan, which would give Kranjcar
the chance to impress before securing a long-term move.
