Tally-ho and merry new beginnings to you all! What grander way to spend those final few hours of
the year 2011 than in unchartered, unfamiliar and altogether more foreign waters. Swan infested
waters, you might say?
Hmm?
*silence*
Oh alright, maybe not- but there's no need to look at me like that.
Just over a week ago, an isolated story appeared suggesting that Andros Townsend was on his way
out of the club after a training ground ‘disagreement'. It seemed unworthy of comment at the time
and that view has been backed up by the news that Andros has signed a new deal that will keep him
at the club until 2016.
With the loss of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon on Sunday, Spurs lost much of the potency that had
helped them climb the Premiership table and into third place.
Ultimately we won the game but if you saw a brief but apt Match of the Day package on Sunday
night, you'll have seen where Bale in particular, was sorely missed.

Chasing a huge goal difference swing and needing POAK to beat Rubin Kazan elsewhere, the odds
were against Tottenham making it through to the knockout phases last night, but they held up their
end of the bargain by racking up an impressive drubbing of Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Steven
Pienaar, Andros Townsend (a real beauty, well worth watching the highlights for), Jermain Defoe and
Harry Kane all bagging a goal apiece.

The UEFA Europa League group stage will wrap up today, and several Americans are hoping their
respective team is still standing after the dust has settled.
Jozy Altidore is one of those players, as he and AZ Alkmaar need a win over already-qualified FC
Metalist Kharkiv in Group G in order to secure qualification.
Harry's pre-match comments have pretty much given us the starting line up for tonight but there
are still some gaps to fill in,
"I was doing a little bit of work with them this morning and there's seven internationals in
there," said Harry.
"Defoe is here, Gio Dos Santos, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Pienaar, Niko, Sandro, they will
all play.
THFC1882 present a guest preview by Rob:
Shamrock Rovers v Tottenham Hotspur, Thursday 15th December 6pm KO ITV4
So here we are, at the last match in the laborious group stage of the Europa League. A
competition that is supposed to be the second best European competition to win but in my opinion is
just plain second rate as shown by the fact that not that many teams are interested in playing in
it.

Skysports.com understands a host of clubs are tracking Shamrock Rovers striker Karl Sheppard.
Sheppard is out of contract at the end of the month and the news has alerted a number of clubs in
England to his possible availability.
Should Sheppard leave Shamrock Rovers any compensation for his signature would be minimal as he has
only been at the League of Ireland club for a year and joined them on a free transfer.
Despite temporary setbacksCinderella always triumphs in the end. The Pantomime season
started on Sunday this year with Cinderella at the Britannia Palace with your very own Mr.
Christopher Foy playing Baron Hardup. There are several candidates for the Ugly Sisters, Petunia
and Nasturtium. (Petty and Nasty) Shawcross and Whitehead will do for me.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is among the last of the Premiership bosses to point the finger at
the referee but even he couldn't stay silent after yesterday's display by Chris Foy in the 2-1
defeat at Stoke.
Foy was involved in a number of contentious decisions including the sending off of Younes Kaboul
and a crucial offside flag on Emmanuel Adebayor.
A plethora of former Tottenham players suited up in a Stoke City uniform and fully played their
part in ending the Spurs' 11-game unbeaten run with an impressive 2-1 win at the Brittania
Stadium.
Matthew Etherington, who was a Spurs player between 2000 and 2003, scored twice in the first
half, with his opening strike being assisted by Peter Crouch, who just left White Hart Lane this
summer.

Betting sites has tipped Tottenham to take home the silverware, but the odds are now against
them even exiting the group stages.
With two weeks until the final matches of the Europa League group stages, 14 clubs have clinched
spots in the knockout rounds of the cup with a game to spare. With the eight teams that finish
third in their UEFA Champions League groups transferring over to Europe's second-tier competition,
that leaves 10 spots.
When Spurs beat Rubin Kazan at home the club was installed as one of the favourites to win the
Europa League but after last night's home defeat to PAOK, the competition is all but over for this
year.
Tottenham need PAOK to beat Rubin later this month and hope that they can put enough goals past
Shamrock Rovers to overtake the Russians on goal difference.
Roman Pavlyuchenko has been ruled out of tonight's game with PAOK as a freak training injury
is set to see him endure a spell on the side lines.
Yesterday, manager Harry Redknapp said after Pav's knee problem came to light,
'It doesn't look very good. He just banged it on Andros Townsend's head.

Europa League game:
So, Tottenham Hotspur play a European tie on a Wednesday once again, in what all Spurs fans hope
will be a prelude of things to come next season.

Shamrock Rovers left back Enda Stevens, who will be joining Aston Villa in January 2012, has
been named in the Irish Premier Division Team of the Year and nominated for the Professional
Footballers' Association of Ireland (PFAI) Young Player of the Year award.
21 year old Stevens has remained with Rovers whilst they compete in the Europa League.
The loss in Kazan last night has left Spurs needing to avoid defeat in their next two games
against PAOK and Shamrock Rovers if they are to stand a chance of progressing to the next round of
32 and it raises an issue that has been burning since our Europa League qualification was
assured.
The manager has never been shy in letting his feelings known about the validity of this
competition and words such as annoyance and irritation are never far from his lips.
Spurs assistant manager Kevin Bond insisted there were many positives to come out of the club's
1-0 defeat away to Rubin Kazan last night.
"To be fair, I thought we did well," Bond said. "A couple of senior players made their first
starts and got their first minutes on the pitch this season.

Tonights game at Central Stadium was always going to be tough for Spurs, no matter which team
had been picked. Rubin Kazan have some experienced heads from Russian League and European football
and they showed it with a commanding performance against a Spurs team that had a mix of youth and
experience.
This video clip of Shamrock Rover's fan's staying on at White Hart Lane despite their team's
defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League stages goes to show that they are probably the best
supporters on the World.

In Tottenham's last outing in the Europa League, Aaron Lennon made an aborted comeback from
injury but the competition gives him another chance to prove his fitness this week.
Lennon played just 45 minutes in the match against Shamrock Rovers and hasn't featured for Spurs
since but Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp confirms that the winger is due to play against Rubin
Kazan for part of the game at least.
A strong feature of the early part of Tottenham's season has been the use of various youngsters in
our non-Premier League campaigns. Anyone who was at Hearts away and Shamrock Rovers at home would
have been impressed by Andros Townsend's electrifying contributions. Harry Kane might have missed a
penalty in that 0-0 bore-fest against Hearts at the Lane but his general performance in that game
and away against PAOK Salonika demonstrated that he might be able to make something of his career
at Spurs.
The Green
The green of the grass. Every time. It's greener at Arsenal than anywhere else. The only time I
can remember it being as green somewhere else is the first time I saw Arsenal play live. It was
some time in the mid-80s, in a pre-season game against Shamrock Rovers here in Dublin.
Under floodlights, a packed terrace in a south Dublin suburb, a battle of the O'Leary brothers
if I recall correctly (of course it's possible I've just augmented my memory of it).
Relying on promising youth is an ethos more familiar with the likes of Arsenal, yet it appears
to be paying dividends for Harry Redknapp's side at the moment, especially in the Europa
League.
Picking up points against the Greek side PAOK, in a tough away environment and Shamrock Rovers
in front of the home crowd, Tottenham's youngsters are more than proving a point and are
demonstrating that Spurs have a match-winning side in the making for the more competitive fixtures
of the Premier League.

TEAM NEWS
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will revert to his first-choice line-up for the derby,
meaning Emmanuel Adebayor is in line to face his former club Arsenal at White Hart Lane.
Jermain Defoe put last week's illness behind him against Shamrock Rovers and showed that he is
ready to face Arsenal this Sunday.
That would suggest that Harry might be looking to renew JD's lethal partnership with Emmanuel
Adebayor, but that would mean leaving out one midfield player from last week's win over Wigan and
it's not easy to see who would miss out.

Here's one I wrote earlier.
Presumably there were some onlookers last night so enraged by our inability to score as the game
wore on last night that they tore up their season tickets at half-time, their apoplexy no doubt
reaching such levels when we actually fell behind that they chopped off their own feet and howled
for the entire team to be sacked.
