Squad Watch: Week 10. Smuda Picks The Squad To Face Romania And Canada.

Euro 2008 on World Cup Blog 02 November @ 02:42 PM EST

Franz Smuda called up his first ever squad as the coach of the Polish national team. There were a few surprises such as the absence of Shakhtar's Mariusz Lewandowski and the inclusion of the long time no seen Kamil Kosowski or less than impressive Janusz Gancarczyk. Smuda claims that the door is not closed for anybody and that no player is guaranteed future call ups.

losing

Dinamo & everything else 01 November @ 01:37 PM EST
The U10 lads are in a bit of a slump as it turns out. Last weeks loss and yesterday a 5-3 loss. Now the lads are 4w's and 3l's with no D's. It was one of those games that didn't auger well - the other team only had 6 so I agreed (not my best decision in hindsight) to match them 6 on 6.
Of course, it was disruptive because we've been playing well with a 2-1-2-1 outfield - so I have to take part of it on the chin. Click to continue reading...

A fantastic performance by the FK squad on Saturday night as the lads played FC Valhalla off the park - beating them 4-1. We conceded the early goal of course, it's the Dinamo way.
We didn't go to The Daily Pint afterwards because we were tending to Jason in the Emergency Room. He took a ball in the eye - a deflected shot that came off Kato's knee. Click to continue reading...

Jose Mourinho’s Ukrainian Spy

The Offside 01 September @ 10:30 AM EST
European champions Barcelona had an extra special day yesterday. Not only did they kick off the La Liga season at the Camp Nou with a 3-0 win over Sporting Gijon, but they signed defensive superstud Dmytro Chygrynskiy from Shakhtar for a cool €25m to pair with Puyol for the hairiest defensive partnership ever. Shakhtar’s Spectacular New Stadium Opens With Beyonce. And Aliens.

They partied like it was 2099 in Donetsk on Saturday, opening up one of the new jewels of European Stadiums. WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World - North Carolina Edition

World Club Rankings 31 August @ 12:53 AM EST

As far as I'm concerned, the rankings are still rather meaningless, but that should change soon. As discussed ad nauseum, until each club in a league has played five matches, the numbers used for the rankings are a conglomeration of numbers from both the current season and the prior season.

Transfer Talk: Chygrynskiy On His Way

Barcelista 29 August @ 05:12 AM EST
This signing is... relieving, to say the least. Barca have been haggling over the player with his club, Shakhtar, for longer than we are able to keep track of; so were just glad it's finally over and his signature is secured, for a reported twenty-five million euros.
Even though he hasn't officially joined yet, the team got a taste of him first-hand as he played his farewell match against with Shakhtar against Barcelona in last nights UEFA Supercup - we don't wonder that he found it very strange. Click to continue reading...

Juventus set to offer Trezeguet for Elano

Neither of the players is currently happy with where they are, which is why this deal could easily go through. David Trezeguet is not happy with his status in Turin and he wants to play on regular basis, whereas Elano is struggling to adapt to life in England and Juventus could really use his creativity.

My cup runneth over: how to save the sanctity of the silverware

SoccerLens 02 June @ 06:00 AM EST

As Chelsea reigned triumphant at Wembley on Saturday, David Moyes cut a disconsolate figure, as you would expect the manager of a losing team in the FA Cup final. Yet the Scot's comments in the run up to the game said much about cup competitions in the modern era.

Toffees fans would have been delighted had Everton taken their first piece of silverware since 1995, but, according to Moyes, winning the FA Cup would be a "stepping stone" for the club.

Why, yes, I did watch the UEFA Cup final last night, and what a smart little encounter it was. The game was so good, in fact, that for long stretches I forgot to think of it as a referendum on the entire concept of an alternative tournament to the Champions League, and, heretically, enjoyed it as merely a football match.
