Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas made headlines yesterday when he came across as extremely
non-committal in discussing prospective signings such as Genk's Kevin De Bruyne and Shakhtar's
Willian.
The Portuguese manager has followed up by explaining that his stance stems from the unappealing
nature of the January transfer window.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas insists that he is not the right man to discuss a potential
deal for Genk youngster Kevin De Bruyne and also feels that "certain issues" will prevent the club
from signing Brazil international Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup visit to cross-town rivals QPR a fixture that Villas-Boas
desperately wants to win in order to get one step closer to silverware the Blues gaffer told
reporters that neither De Bruyne nor Willian were in his immediate plans.

Our exciting new series continues with a 'going over' of the EURO 2012 facilities that await the
French NT.
It is being reported that the chief Arsenal scout Steve Rowley has advised Arsene Wenger to have
another look at Shakhtar Donetsk's creative midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of a potential move
in January. After the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona in the summer, Arsenal have seriously
lacked the creativity in midfield that he provided [.

TMZ has accused him of baby blue Speedo grape smuggling, but we'd like to contest that. The term

This week was a busy one for Portuguese abroad.
Both Porto and Benfica began their Champions League campaigns earlier this week. Porto was able
to climb from behind and beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 at home. Hulk his a laser of a free kick and

Even after Aleandre Pato'o "saw a gap and ran at it" (great quote sometimes football's just a
simple game), the Champions League opening night provided no further letdown, only building with
steam across the continent. Late drama was seemingly a common thread, both in Catalonia and
Germany.
Chelsea followed up on Frank Lampard's urgency for Champions League glory by opening their
campaign with an impressive 2-0 win at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
Second half goals from David Luiz and summer signing Juan Manuel Mata sealed all three points
for Andre Villas-Boas' men at Stamford Bridge at the expense of their German visitors.
Group F: Arsenal – Marseille – Olympiacos – Borussia Dortmund.
That doesn't look like a group of death to me but there is enough in there keep things on edge.
Perhaps part of the reason is also that Arsenal will have to go on a long, consistent run before
most fans regain complete confidence.

A lot has happened in the last day or two. Nasri's move has been officially announced, Wilshere
suffered a relapse (anyone else worried – perhaps unjustifiably – that he will be this season's
Vermaelen?), and the summer's most believable, intriguing, albeit a tad dramatic story claimed
there was a rift between the board and the manager.
The rumours last week were saying that Arsenal were lining up the Brazilian Jadson from Shakhtar
Donetsk as a marquee signing to announce when Fabregas transfer to Barcelona is confirmed, but
Wenger was directly asked about it on Friday he said: "nowhere near on Jadson" and said the club
were "not talking to Shakhtar about [.

Diving is surely a mortal sin, punishable by an eternity of immersion in a fiery hell, which, as
recent scientific studies have determined, is simply an incessant barrage of the Cesc to Barcelona
saga. Like "To be or not to be...", but less poetic with nothing to follow forever, thus
mired in a constant state of simultaneous not knowing and severe annoyance.
Philippe Mexes is a dirty cheat. He's a walking red card and a thuggish scumbag; an explosion
waiting to happen like that quiet, inevitable interval in between lighting a firecracker and
waiting for it to go off. Philippe Mexes is a tremendous defender. Sure, he has a dirty side, but
what centerback doesn't?
As last season drew to a close it appeared that Spurs only hope for European football was the
Europa League that came with 5th place. Arguments raged as to whether or not this was a good thing
and it appeared Harry Redknapp and a number of his players didn't seem keen on the idea.

So, Europe, eh?
It hit me last night while watching Britain's Got Talent. The judges came on to the same music
we used to play in our Europa games, and I realised what last season had lacked: frightening
games.
Sure there were tense matches, games that meant things, but never games that made you feel sick,
games that had you wide eyed and awe-struck.
They win a lot... but never by a majority (UPDATE: Nuts)Since there's no other news today (what's an Osama Jack Layton?) we thought we'd use our spy
skills to infiltrate the hiding place of some secret information. With Toronto FC's NutCan
semi-final against FC Edmonton seeming like a foregone conclusion (unless Dan Gargan starts) we
thought we would look into the founding of Canada's newest pro club.
With all of the midweek action going on, especially in domestic cup competitions, it seems like
this is a good week to bring back the scoreboard/schedule feature. The highlights of the week all
seem to take place on Wednesday when Real Madrid and Barcelona play in the finals of the Copa del
Rey, Benfica and Porto face off in the semifinals of the Taça da Portugal and Real Salt Lake and
Monterrey begin their two-leg CONCACAF Champions League final.
Non è stato sicuramente un esordio felice, quello dello Shakhtar, alla prima apparizione nei
quarti di finale della Champions League. E non si è ripetuto il colpaccio (nella fase a gironi)

Barcelona's Villa eyes end to goal drought
Four of Shakhtar's main defensive men Andriy Pyatov, Yaroslav Rakitskyi, Darijo Srna and Dmytro
Chygrynskiy were asked to be filmed as the CL quarterfinal draw was made, possibly in return for

Barcelona.

Before I proceed I want to mention that this article is mostly speculation about the Champions
League draw and the teams in it. There won't be much about Arsenal.
Ok with that out of the way I thought I'll jot down some thoughts I had about the Champions
League quarter-final draw. While the draw is held live and involves some big names associated with
the game, I often get the feeling that it is, at least partially, rigged.
