SFS Flashbacks
Spanish Football Today is exactly 1 year ago when SPANISH FOOTBALL reached its highest level in
World Football & Sports history, recognition, prestige & winning its first ever FIFA WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP. The SPAIN FOOTBALL NATIONAL TEAM defeated 1 - 0 HOLLAND in the FIFA WORLD CUP Final
in SOUTH AFRICA thanks to the ANDRES INIESTA extra-time (116 min) goal the 11th of June 2010.
It´s the 2002 World Cup, SPAIN is playing KOREA & playing well witheyes on the final stages.
However, two controversial refereedecisions – disallowing two legitimate goals – sends Spain
homemissing the semi-finals with a cruel sense of injustice once again. This is an ever present
situation that we hope will be absent in thisyears 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.
It was the "test of fire" that changed things & gave SPAIN thepsychological confidence to eliminate
historical ghosts & beginits new future path onto the European Nations Title & now puttheir sights
on next years South African World Cup. It was the 22nd of June in The Euro 2008 Q/Final against
ITALYfinishing 0-0 in normal/extra-time that went onto the penalties.
It was the World Cup Quarter Final of USA 2004. ITALY playedSPAIN in what turned out to be a "pitch
battle" with the Italiansgetting away with a 2-1 victory "their way" & eliminating Spain. There was
the controversial elbow by Italian defender TASSOTIthat broke the nose of Spaniard LUIS ENRIQUE
that wasn't sanctioned& the penalty not given.
It was over a year ago that SPAIN made the jump into the WorldFootball elite defeating GERMANY 1-0
in the Final of the EuropeanChampionships. The only goal came thanks to FERNANDO TORRESwho managed
to beat defender Lahm to "clip" the ball over the goalie & guide the ball into the net. Spain,
European Nations CupChampions 2008, a great SFS Flashback moment to remember.
It was the 1998 World Cup in France & the Group D game againstthe strong & skillfull Nigeria. The
end result was a "surprising"SPAIN 2 - NIGERIA 3 which was the end of Coach Javier Clemente&
another disappointing World Cup "go home early" scenario. A defeatthat went down in Spanish history
as the beginning of the WCupcareer for RAUL & another disasterous goalkeeping mistake

Fifteen (15) years ago the below occurred in the Spanish Football League when FC Barcelona played
away Santiago de Compostela. Spectacular goal from the Brazilian star RONALDO , bit more younger &
slimmer, that has comeback to all our memories after 15 years. Great player, one of the best Nº9s
in Football History.
SPANISH FOOTBALL - SOCCER has been traditionally dominanted by Real Madrid & FC Barcelona, but
there has been seasons ( plenty ) were the two Club dominantion has been broken & the impact so
outstanding that they stay burnt in the the memory of local  Football History. Spanish Football
Sports would like to dedicate a FLASHBACK post to season 1980 - 81 & remember the historical

Source Blog: Sp Ftball Sprts /Today, Thursday, 18 years ago is the anniversary of the first ever
European Cup Championship Title for FC BARCELONA. The final was played at the "old" Wembley Stadium
in London against Italian team Sampdoria with a final score 1-0. It was the "Dream Team" of Cruyff
that clinched the European Cup in extra-time when Dutch defender ROLAND KOEMAN scored a free-kick
in
What is up with FC BARCELONA Bulgarian "Golden Boot" &"France Football Golden Ball Award" winner
HRISTOSTOICHKOV?He is currently training in South Africa with the MamelodiSundowns team. However he
does not seem to be making muchadvances with his English as seen here in this "piss take"
videomash-up with his TV interview just before this last Xmas.
Next Saturday "La Liga" has en exciting match up; VALENCIA CF vsFC BARCELONA. These two Clubs have
become fierce rivals overthe years & their games have always been intense, controversial &full of
goals, some absolutely wonderful.SFS takes you back in time to a Valencia vs Barça match to
relivethis absolute "cracker" from the then Valencia Captain GAIZKAMENDIETA.
Situation: FC Barcelona had lost 3-1 away to Dynamo Kiev in the 1ºstleg of the European Cup &
things were up hill for the 1993 "DreamTeam" of Johan Cruyff. The 2º leg was (& is considered) one
of the greatest games of the"Dream Team" & a historical comeback to turn around the tie witha 4-1
victory ( goals: Laudrup, Bakero – twice & Koeman).
The big Round 3 match of "La Liga" tonight is the FC Barcelona vsAtletico de Madrid clash. The
latter goes to "Camp Nou" in the worst conditions possible mentally, spiritually & form wise &
risks a repeatof last years demolition job by Barça.Lets hope not...SEE VIDEO of last years 6-1
result:Surf into SFS late tonight for a full summary of this game & theother 4 matches scheduled
for tonight.
The Situation: The Great DEPORTIVO DE A CORUÑA defenderMIROSLAV DUKIC decides to take the penalty
awarded to his teamat the last match of the season & at the last minute of the game.A goal would
give Deportivo the 1993-1994 "Liga" title, ifmissed FC BARCELONA would proclaim the prized
title. This is what happened:Dukic has never forgotten this moment since then.
Luis Suarez Miramontes (1935 - ), a Spanish Football legend thatplayed for FC BARCELONA & later
become the first Spaniard signedby an Italian team, the famous INTER MILAN of the 60s. It
wasprecisely with Inter where he won in 1960 the "Golden Ball"as Europe's Best Football Player,
making him the ONLY Spaniard todate to have done so.
It was season 1991/1992 & REAL MADRID needed only to win itslast game of the season against
TENERIFE to take the Spanish 1ºDivision Title. Things started brilliantly for Real Madrid with
twogoals from FERNANDO HIERRO & HAGI..., BUT with Real Madridthinking in the title Tenerife made a
historic comeback:Quique Estebaranz 1-2Roca 2-2Pier 3-2Real Madrid loses the Spanish League title &
FC BARCELONA
With the upcoming 2009 EUROPEAN CUP Final (now UEFAChampions League Final) due Wednesday the 27th
of May atRome between FC BARCELONA & MANCHESTER UNITED, SFShas recovered a FLASHBACK historical
moment in Spanish(World) Football. It was 1994 in Athens GREECE, & FC BARCELONA met AC MILANin the
final of the European Cup.
FC BARCELONA had a dream & a fierce crusade before 1992, toconquer their first ever EUROPEAN CUP
title. It was an obsessionas it was the trophy that would give them the Internationalcreditablity
needed for the giant Club & finally get them out ofthe shadow of their arch rival Real Madrid. In
1992 at the "old" Wembley Stadium in London FC Barcelonaplayed Italian Club Sampdoria in the
European Cup
SFS has received emails asking for the video of the last "Clasico"played this season 2008/ 2009.
Here it is below, although the videoportals are full of clips, this is one of the more "cleaner"
versionshang up from "AlbertCoch1986" (his nik & thanks!) & will serve as aSFS Flashback Video. The
date is 13.
REAL MADRID & AC MILAN has been put together in Group C of thisyears UEFA Champions League along
with Zurich & Olympique deMarsella. The both mentioned & European Giant Clubs are scheduled tomeet
the 21.10.2009 at Madrid with the return game at Milan the03.11.2009. SFS would like to take the
occasion & recall thereaders of a Historical European Cup clash back in the 19th of Aprilof 1989
when
It was 1960 & the European Cup Final was played at Glasgow(Hampden Park).REAL MADRID dominated
World Football with 4European Cup titles in a row & were playing German side EINTRACHTFRANKFURKT
for their 5th title.End result: Real Madrid 7 – E.Frankfurt 3. Real Madrid legendaryforwards
Puskas & Di Stefano destroy the Germans
Situation: It was the 1967/68 season & REAL MADRID playedMANCHESTER UNITED in a historical 2º leg
EUROPEAN CUPsemi-final clash at the "Santiago Bernabeu Stadium" (Madrid). Theend result was a grand
3-3 draw, but Manchester United qualifiedfor the European Cup final because in the 1ºst leg at Old
Traffordthey won 1-0 thanks to a goal from George Best.
Glorious night for LIVERFOOL FC in this years Champions Leaguewhipping 4-0 REAL MADRID. This was
one of the main reasons -apart from FC Barcelona brilliant year & Liga whipping 2-6 - thathas lead
the Madrid team to "revolutionize" the Club.I was so happy for Torres that night!
He is now the Coach of Spanish 1º Division Club Almeria, but beforethis Mexican HUGO SANCHEZ was a
goal scoring machine,ex-Atletico de Madrid player & a legend of Real Madrid. The manwas 5 times
"Pichichi" of the Spanish League. Here is a SFS Flashback of one of his goals back in 1988
againstLogrones, incredible:
It was the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, SPAIN meet BRAZIL in itsGroup D game. Spain had on paper one
of the most impressiveteams in its history & the expectations were high until the cameacross
Referee Christopher Bambridge & the bad luck that hadfollowed the National Side until recent
times. The game finished 0-1 in Brazil´s favour but the "phantom" goalby Real Madrid winger MICHEL
was disallowed
The place was Tokyo (Japan), the occasion the 1998 IntercontinentalCup between REAL MADRID (Winner
of the European Cup) & VASCODE GAMA (Winner of Copa Libertadores) & the minute was the 82ndwith a
1-1 result. Then ...a young RAUL scorers the winner with one of his best goals.PS. Did you see a
very young Samuel Eto´o at the end?
spanish football sports Great reception from the REAL SOCIEDAD fans to the post here on the the
Clubs 1980 - 1981 Spanish Football League title. The "Basque Region" domination of Spanish
Football would continue seasons later but this time with rival ATHLETIC DE BILBAOÂ winning the
Spanish League title in season 1982 - 83 & again in season 1983-84 their last with the added glory
of also winning the
SFS Falshback to one of ATLETICO DE MADRID´s great foreignplayers, Brazilian LEIVINHA, who came to
Atletico in the season1975-76. He debuted in Sept 1975 against Salamanca & scored ahat-trick.He
stayed 4 seasons, played 83 games & scored 40 goals ( 1 every 2games). He won a "Liga" title (
76-77) & Spanish Cup title (76).
Internationally speaking, it's the highest prize to date for ATLETICODE MADRID, the 1975
Inter-Continental Cup trophy won againstINDEPENDIENTE DE AVELLANEDA of Argentina.Atletico who had
lost the European Cup Final against Bayern Munich, represented Europe after the German Club refused
to participate.
It was 2006 & the UEFA CUP Final at Eindhoven (Holland) whereSEVILLA FC faced English Club
MIDDLESBOROUGH. The end resultwas a historic first ever European title for Sevilla who won 4-0with
goals from LUIS FABIANO (27th), MARESCA ( 78th & 84th) &KANOUTE (89th).This was the beginning of
Sevilla´s glory run in Europe with a EuropeanSuperCup victory & a return Uefa Cup Final victory
