Season Review - Midfielders - Revamped Midfield for KC in 2015

Down the Byline at related • 0 views
Continuing to make the way up the field we take a look at the midfield this year for Sporting Kansas City.

Sporting saw plenty of turnover in the midfield from the 2014 season, with just four players, Benny Feilhaber, Mikey Lopez, Jimmy Medranda, and Paulo Nagamura returning for the 2015 season for KC as the club parted company with the likes of Toni Dovale, Lawrence Olum, Victor Munoz, and Jorge Claros in an effort to remake their midfield.

Claros and Marcelin Waived

Sporting KC made some room on their roster today, and opened some international spots as the club announced that they had parted ways with midfielders Jorge Claros and James Marcelin. Claros' exit isn't that surprising after the news on the weekend reporting that he was on his way to China to join Qingdao Jonoon, Marcelin's on the other hand is a little surprising simply because of the fact that the midfielder had just been signed back in December.

Claros Departing Kansas City for China?

Reports out of Honduras today by journalist, Julio César Núñez are that Jorge Claros' time in Kansas City is coming to an end. Núñez is reporting that Claros is headed to join Qingdao Jonoon, of the Chinese League One (the second division in China).

The move, while a little surprising considering that Claros was brought in just this past summer, isn't a huge surprise.

Sporting Address Needs in SuperDraft

With four picks in the first two rounds of today's MLS SuperDraft, Sporting KC had plenty of opportunity to address some needs for the team heading into the 2015 season. With all four of the picks KC was able to address needs on the wing, at wing back and in the defensive midfield position. They were also able to get three of the four players that they wanted in the draft, the fourth being Nick Besler who went to Portland with the fifth pick.

Winning in Mexico - History Lesson

Sounder at Heart at related • 1 view

It happened on August 23 of 2011. A team of mainly reserves (this isn't hyperbole) went down to Monterrey, Mexico and pulled off a 1-nil win. That Seattle Sounders side faced a fairly standard Rayados lineup. They won. It was an upset, but the stakes were not high. It damaged the mystique, but was not an advancement in a knockout stage.

Player Profile: Servando Carrasco

Sounder at Heart at related • 3 views

Two years into his professional career, Servando Carrasco is still best known for something that has nothing to do with his playing ability. That shouldn't overshadow the fact that he continues to show signs of being a very useful MLS player. It's probably too early to proclaim him obvious starting XI quality, but he would be right at home on any roster in the league.

Caledonia AIA Vs. Seattle Sounders: Highlights, Stats, Quotes

Sounder at Heart at related • 2 views

There was nothing particularly pretty about the Seattle Sounders' 3-1 win in Caledonia. The scoreline may look nice on paper, and it's certainly satisfying to win any game in which you have to deal with that kind of travel, but it was an utter slopfest. The pitch was slow and slippery, the play was generally uninspired and there was an overarching sense that something bad was about to happen.

Sounders Vs. Caledonia, 2012 CCL: Photos, Highlights, Stats, Quotes

Sounder at Heart at related • 0 views

It's hard not to be satisfied with a two-goal victory, but the Seattle Sounders surely know that Thursday's 3-1 win over Caledonia could have been more. The goal they surrendered was a rather mindless penalty by Jhon-Kennedy Hurtado and they could have easily scored on at least one or two more occasions.

Sounders Put Three Past Caledonia AIA

The match that was defined by an energetic first half where the Sounders put three goals in against the CFU Club champion Caledonia AIA and a second half that was patient with fewer clear chances for the Sounders. Caledonia's Joseph did net a penalty kick in the 50th minute to limit the damage to their own chances at advancement in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League.

LAFC take Calum Mallace, MNUFC take Tyrone Mears, Galaxy select Servando Carrasco.

What's the worst part about having a successful season in MLS? Getting a lousy spot in the MLS Re-Entry Draft, of course. Okay, so that's not true. Seattle Sounders did not select any players today in Stage 2 of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft (they also passed on a selection in Stage 1), but they did see one member of their 2017 squad, Calum Mallace, picked up by LAFC.
