Italian Serie A Table Through February 11, 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Italian Serie A Recap 11 February 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Below is a recap of all the Serie A matches on February 11, 2012.
Udinese 1-2 AC Milan
AC Milan scored a late goal to move top of the table. Udinese's Antonio Di Natale scored in the
19th minute while Maxi Lopez scored in the 77th minute and Stephan El Shaarawy scored the winning
goal.
There is plenty of high-profile soccer going on around the world this Wednesday, but perhaps no
games carry as much significance as the two African Cup of Nations semifinals. Ivory Coast and
Ghana took care of business in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals with matching 3-0
victories, and all that stands in the way of a star-studded tournament final is one more win for
each team.
Amidst all of the buzz surrounding Carlos Tevez and his possible arrival in Milan, Inter have
slowly continued their climb towards the upper echelon of the Serie A table. The Nerazzurri have
won five consecutive league matches over the past month, outscoring their opponents by a 13-1 mark
during that period.
The Christmas break is over. This can only mean one thing: it's now time to put down the
panettone and get back to calcio! The Serie A season resumed this weekend – and no
holiday hangovers here; there was no shortage of action!
Perhaps still recovering from jet-setting-induced jet lag, Milan and Juventus, the league's
joint leaders, both seemed to be struggling to get back into the swing of things with difficult
wins against Atalanta and Lecce, respectively, on Sunday.
Luis Suarez might as well be on the FA's speed dial these days.
In the aftermath of receiving an eight-game ban and hefty fine from England's ruling body, the
Liverpool striker was given his second punishment after being found guilty of misconduct for
flipping the middle finger to Fulham fans at Craven Cottage following a match earlier in
December.
Currently in sixth place in the 2011/12 Italian Serie A table and into the Round of 16 of the
Champions League, SSC Napoli is enjoying its most successful period since its glory days of the
1980s. The team from the south of Italy will meet Chelsea FC in a home and away series in [...]
The return of Juventus as a force in Italian football has coincided with the arrival of Andrea
Pirlo on a free transfer and with former club captain Antonio Conte assuming control of coaching
duties. Both Pirlo and Conte have been influential in Juve's rise with the former Milan midfielder
proving indispensable in several matches while coach Antonio has helped revive the squad's damaged
spirit.
It will be hard to see Inter Milan pick themselves up from there latest setback after going down
1-0 to Udinese yesterday in a result that leaves them in 15th place on the Serie A table with 2/3
of the season left to play.
Currently 13 points off the pace set by leaders and city rivals Milan, Inter need to start
wining if they are too force their way into the top half of the table.
Napoli president Antonio De Laurentiis has questioned Manchester City's strategy, claiming that
their 2-1 defeat to the Italian side proves that the Citizens only know how to spend large amounts
of money.
A massive investment in the club has allowed owner Sheikh Mansour to place a star-studded squad
at the disposal of manager Roberto Mancini, who has followed last season's FA Cup success by taking
the team five points clear atop the Barclays Premier League table.
For a long time, you and I wondered what had happened to The Lady Gago, who was a
spectacular flop at Real Madrid, lauded at Boca Juniors (and even found the time
to date one of our good friends there!) and now.... an AS Roma prince!
Goals by Thiago Motta and a superb strike by Coutinho helped Inter Milan bag a much needed 2-1 win
over Cagliari. The win was the former champions' first victory in three matches and moves Claudio
Ranieiri's men up to 16th in the Serie A table on 11 points; ten behind neighbours AC Milan (who
were [.
A variety of matches worth watching this weekend: a couple from England, a couple from Spain,
intriguing matches in Munich and in Naples, a Uruguayan super derby, and the MLS championship
game.

England, Manchester City-Newcastle (10am, Fox Soccer): The match of the weekend
in England.

If Arsenal is able to turn around its 2011-12 Premier League campaign and return to UEFA
Champions League football next year, the club will likely look back at Saturday's 5-3 win over
Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as the turning point.
After twice coming back from a one-goal deficit, the visitors took a 3-2 lead on a 55th minute
goal from Theo Walcott that looked like it might prove to be the winner before Juan Mata struck in
the 80th.
It was business as usual for La Liga heavy weights Barcelona and Real Madrid as they romped to
3-0 and 4-1 wins over Racing Santander and Real Betis this weekend to continue on their amazing
winning streaks.
However, the 2 teams are separated by a single point and a club which many people are not used
to seeing on this end of the table Levante.
Juventus might be on top of the Serie A table but it is too early to consider them as serious
contenders before they can register a notable win against one of the elite teams such as Milan or
Napoli. The upcoming fixtures will offer the Bianconeri the perfect opportunity to measure their
improvement and how far they have gone since seeing former captain Antonio Conte take over as
coach.

Word is filtering through that Gian Piero Gasperini has been sacked as Inter Milan coach the
morning after overseeing the Nerazzurri's dismal outing against newly-promoted minnows Norvara last
night -
The 3-1 defeat proved to be the straw that buggered the camel into submission, leaving Gasperini
with a pretty woeful record of one draw and four defeats in his first five competitive games.
Examining the Italian sports front pages one day after Inter Milan loses to a
side recently promoted from Serie B can be a fascinating experience. The phrases 'Sfascio'
(Collapse), 'Gasperini Sinks' and 'Super Novara!' are cluttered all over the place. These Italians
seem to love the word 'Super' a lot, eh, SuperPippo?
After their impressive 2-2 midweek show against Barcelona, Milan fell to a 3-1
defeat in the hands of Napoli last night. And the man of the moment? Hat-trick hero Edison
Cavani, of course! Move aside Suarez, there's a new
Uruguayan star in town!
While Milan sealed the
Scudetto after all their challengers fell away, the Champions League
and relegation battle in Italy's top division seem set to go to the last week of fixtures. Superb
seasons from Udinese, Napoli and Lazio have been in stark contrast to poor showings from Juventus,
Inter and, most disappointingly, Sampdoria.
Number 88 (Gokhan Inler) scored a spectacular goal but
did not celebrate... Why?
Udinese has had a truly fantastic season in the Serie A. While their start was terrible, losing
their first four games in the league, they eventually figured out how to play a wonderful and
winning way. While there are players which make the team shine, their success must be attributed to
their coach Francesco Guidolin.

Inter Milan's resounding 5-3 victory against Roma has led calls that manager Leonardo is
starting to put forward his expressive Brazilian roots in his sides' style of football.
Inter was unmistakeably beautiful when going forward, combining precise passing, electrifying
pace and incredible accuracy from outside the box (just ask Wesley Sneijder.
MILAN, Italy Internazionale continue to close the gap on neighbours AC at the top of the Serie A
table after a breathtaking 5-3 defeat of AS Roma at the San Siro. Wesley Sneijder's third minute

Inter Milan continued their ascent in the Italian Serie A standings with a 5-3 win over AS Roma at
the San Siro on Sunday. Samuel Eto'o scored twice, while Wesley Sneijder, Thiago Motta and Esteban
Cambiasso also notched goals for manager Leonardo's side. The result sees Inter move to third place
in the Serie A table [.
ROME, Italy — Inter Milan moved up to third in the Serie A table after labouring to a 3-0 victory
at rock bottom Bari on Thursday. Following league leaders AC Milan's 0-0 draw with Lazio on
Tuesday, Inter closed the gap to their bitter city rivals to seven points and with a game in hand.

It hasn't been a good week for Lazio, on Wednesday they lost to Roma in the Coppa Italia and today
they lost 3-1 to Bologna and fell below Roma on the Serie A table. To make matters worse, it
appears that Lazio's Mauro Zárate managed to make contact with a referee when throwing a punch
during a post match dispute with Bologna players.
