Argentina has one of the most talented group of players in the world, and yet they have done
nothing on the national team, and the recent debacle now had its consequences by Sergio Batista
being fired as national coach. This is about time; he has been a lousy coach, and Argentina has
slid down the world ranking while him coaching them.

Argentina's national team had their backs against the wall against Costa Rica in a match that they
had to win if they were not to be the first host-nation ever to be eliminated in the first round of
the Copa América. Costa Rica, although playing with a youth side, had in previous matches proved
well-organised and disciplined, while Argentina had looked like a mess.
The final round of group matches at the 2011 Copa América is well underway, with Colombia leading

Argentina's second performance in the 2011 Copa América they are hosting had to be better than the

Argentina and Colombia are two countries that I am so attached to that I can actually sing along on
both national anthems. Today, both teams played in the second round of the Copa América in a match
where the Argentinean home side was under enormous pressure after their debacle against Bolivia,
while Colombia could play more comfortably after their opening 1-0 win over Costa Rica.

The 43rd Copa América kicked off in La Plata on Friday night, and once again Bolivia were the side

and 2004. ... Continue reading →

Classic Copa América: 1993 Final, 4th of July. Mexico v Argentina, Estadio
Monumental, Guayaquil, Ecuador. (Commentating by Phil Schoen. 1st half highlights here)
Argentina's #9, Gabriel Batistuta (aka Batigol) thought he stole the show midway
through the second half, however, it was Mexico's Benjamin Galindo who made things even with a cool
penalty, smoothly touching it past Sergio Goycochea, a keeper that made his reputation based on his
penalty-saving abilities.

It was in the latter part of the sixteenth century that the infamous Spanish conquistadors
colonized most of South America. Spanish colonialism on the continent lasted until 1824 when the
independence movement led by Simon Bolivar and José de San Martín freed the colonies from the
control of the Iberian nation.
Sergio Batista announced on Saturday the three names to be cut from the 26-man preliminary list for

I'm slightly taken aback that Diego Milito ... Continue reading →
Argentina's 'Under-25′ B-team played a friendly in Abuja, Nigeria on Wednesday, and got thumped

Sergio Batista has just announced a preliminary squad for the 2011 Copa América which starts in

It is hard as a football fan not to like Carlos Tevez: a small, nice guy from one of the poorest
and harshest neighbourhoods, who had a harsh upbringing, but fought against it to become an
outstanding footballer. He is a great striker, and his constant fighting for the team, running,
tackling, and taking responsibility upon his shoulders, has made him loved in every single place he
has played.
In early June, a side representing Argentina will play friendlies away to Nigeria (on the 1st, in
Abuja) and Poland (the 5th, in Warsaw). It won't be a full Argentina team, but it's infinitely more
worthwhile than the ‘local selección' ... Continue reading →

All eyes were on Argentina/Portugal, billed as the Messi v. Ronaldo clash by just about
everyone, but I like to think of it as the inferior version of El Clasico. Barcelona and Real
Madrid are better than Argentina and Portugal in just about every way, mostly thanks to the Spanish
internationals playing at the peak of their careers right now.
Three big matches took place on Wednesday evening at various levels of the Argentine game. At the
