The Philadelphia Union's Veljko Paunovic has decided to announce his retirement from
professional soccer for the second time, according to the team. His beginning in Philadelphia
wasn't a celebrated one, but by the end of his time in the city, he was appreciated.
"It is with great sadness that I announce my retirement from soccer due to family reasons but I
will never forget the Union fans and the atmosphere at PPL Park every game," Paunvoci said to
PhiladelphiaUnion.

The Philadelphia Union announced today that 34-year-old Serbian striker Veljko Paunovic has
called an end to his 16 year professional career.
In the press release from the Union announcing his retirement, Paunovic praised both the Union
fans and the Union organization.
Today was the second MLS draft, there was no ball room in Kansas City for the draft though. The
Supplemental Draft took place on a conference call and took about as long as half the first round
of the SuperDraft. After trading for Michael Thomas' rights, KC only had 4 picks, 1 in the first
and second, and 2 in the third.
Liverpool are continuing their hunt for firepower – with Spain striker Fernando Llorente a
possible target.
Kop boss Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli continue to monitor several
options. They are also keeping tabs on other hitmen including Newcastle's Demba Ba but 26-year-old
Llorente who would cost at least £20m, is also on their radar after some fine displays for
Athletico Bilbao and Spain.
An interesting statement recently revealed by Milos Krasic's agent, Dejan Joksimovic, stating
that the wantaway Juventus winger is being seriously monitored by Chelsea.
The agent also stated that his client most likely will leave his current club because he hasn't
been featured in the plan of the Turin giant's new tactician, Antonio Conte.
Lionel Messi, once again has been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award.
He was nominated in three occasions and have not yet been succesful in winning this one. FC
Barcelona also has been nominated in the Sport Team of the Year category and Abidal also for the
Comeback of the Year.
Following recent statement regarding Nemanja Vidic's injury status which previously arrived from
the player's agent, Manchester United's manger, Sir Alex Ferguson has now confirmed that the
Serbian international won't be available for the rest of this season.
Fergie revealed that the situation has actually been predicted by United's medical team, stating
that the player will immediately see a specialist and get an operation once the swollen on the knee
gets better.
Reports are coming in that the Italian giants Juventus are still intending to make a big bid to
sign Theo Walcott, and are prepared to offer the Serbian International Milos Krasic as part
exchange on the deal. Walcott is currently in the same position as Robin Van Persie with just 18
months left on his [.

Editor's note: At the end of the 2010 season, we posted a series of "Raves" about our
favorite Philadelphia players. They need not be the team's best players, but they're guys and gals
we like. Over the next two weeks, we continue the series again with some of the PSP writers' and
contributors' favorite players of 2011.
Remember Alex, protect the left side
13th of September 2011 seemed like such a long ago now. Both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were
really struggling at that time. A little over 2 months since both teams played out a 1-1 draw at
Signal Iduna Park and pretty much everything happened in between these 2 games.
In the last year he was one of the best player for Juventus, but the advent of Antonio Conte's
era at Juventus seems to have stopped the rising of Milos Krasic in the club.
When he arrived in Italy in the last year he was received by Juventus fans as the "New Nedved",
both for his role in the field (left wing) and for his moves which are very similar to those of
former Juventus and Lazio player.
Manchester United's Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic has called time on his international career.
This comes after his sides failure to reach the European championships in Poland and Ukraine next
summer.
Apparently, this is not the only reason why Vidic is retiring. Reports now emerging, claim
that the 30 year old has had with the constant criticism the Serbia press have often thrown his
way.
The only new development on the Philadelphia Union's injury list is the addition of veteran
attacking midfielder/forward Veljko Paunovic, who is currently suffering from an injury to his
hamstring.
Paunovic's hamstring injury has placed him alongside Trinidadian goalkeeper Thorne Holder
(concussion) and fellow attacking midfielder/forward Levi Houapeu (left ankle strain) as the only
Union players currently listed as out for Thursday night's game against the rival New York Red
Bulls.
With the Serbian Super Liga still early in the season, American midfielder Danny Barrera is looking
to begin earning first team minutes with FK Spartak Zlatibor Voda.
A couple of swap deals could be on the cards this January with both Roman Pavlyuchenko and
Heurelho Gomes being used as potential bait to bring new faces to the Lane.
While Pav has only featured as a fringe player this season, Gomes has been reduced to third
choice goalkeeper after some high profile errors towards the end of last season.

He may not have made much of an impression at Anfield, but Serbian attacker Milan Jovanovic is
certainly causing a stir in Belgium.
The Anderlecht player faces a whopping five-year ban after firing an imaginary machine gun at
opposition fans during a goal celebration in the clash with Bruges last month.
Legend: navy blue is the Union, gray/white is New England (to
differentiate with the white field lines), yellow is the referee and the lime green is the
goalkeeper.
Sebastien Le Toux's second goal of the season from the run of play gave the Philadelphia Union a
point, as the team salvaged a draw from a three-goal deficit against the New England
Revolution.
This titan's reign may soon be over at Stamford Bridge. Alex has told Italian television he is
open to a move away from Chelsea.
apparently loves Italian football
I've sort of been resigned to Alex leaving the club for some time. He has been somewhat
marginalized in recent seasons despite some herculean performances, all of which have been well
documented around here.
A brief synopsis of the latest injury chatter heading into the curtain-rasier this weekend
(provided the riots don't prevent it from happening). More after the jump.
In Doubt?
So if we're lucky to get some footy this weekend, we may well be in a bit of a bind with some
injuries key members of our squad are carrying.
Liverpool have made an enquiry over Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, according to
reports.
The Sunday People claims the Serbian has rejected the possibility of a move to Anfield though, with
the Reds' interest immediately falling flat over the £13 million-rated centre back.
Kenny Dalglish is thought to be in the market for defenders after a disappointing pre-season, with
Liverpool conceding a plethora of goals before yesterday's 2-0 win over Valencia.
Fox Soccer Channel sideline reporter Brian Dunseth told viewers of the Real Salt Lake and New
York Red Bulls game on Saturday that unconfirmed reports have placed the value of Carlos Ruiz's
transfer to Veracruz at $500,000.
Dunseth couldn't say if the $500,000 transfer fee was the full price of Ruiz's move to the
Tiburones Rojos or the two thirds of the total transfer cost that the Union would receive.
Anderlecht has completed the signing of Milan Jovanovic from Liverpool after the forward failed to
make an impact at Anfield.
The Serbian international joined the club following the 2010 World Cup, while previous boss Roy
Hodgson was at the helm.
The 30-year-old found first team opportunities hard to come by though and was regularly on the
fringes of matchday squads.

Serbian international passed a medical in Belgium yesterday and departs Anfield having spent just
one unhappy, unsuccessful year on Merseyside.

Union
No time was wasted spinning Wednesday night's dismal performance from the Union against last
place Chicago with this tweet going out moments after the end of the game: "With the 1-1 draw, the
Union extend their road unbeaten streak to four matches and avoid their first losing streak of the
season.
Anderlecht has struck a deal to sign out-of-favour striker Milan Jovanovic from Liverpool with the
move expected to go through once the Serbian passes a medical this week.
Jovanovic was brought to Liverpool by former boss Rafael Benitez last summer from Standard Liege
but has since fallen out of favour at Anfield and hasn't started a game for the Reds since January.
Jovanovic Future to be Resolved on Tuesday
Milan Jovanovic's future is set to be resolved this week as the Serbian is due to meet with the
board of Belgian outfit Anderlecht on Tuesday. The 30-year-old's departure will free up around
£65k per-week in wages at Anfield, allowing Kenny Dalglish to push on with his summer
spending.
Latest rumours surrounding Serbian International, Milan Jovanovic appear to suggest that the player
has almost agreed personal terms with Belgian club Anderlecht.
His agent has claimed that a deal has almost been done between the two clubs and that all that
remains now is for the forward to agree his weekly wages with the club.
Milan Jovanovic's agent Dejan Veljkovic believes the midfielder will "definitely" join Anderlecht
from Liverpool.
The Serbian winger has been told that he is surplus to requirements at Anfield, despite only
joining the club from Standard Liege last summer, scoring just two goals in 18 appearances.
Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic is understood to have been offered the chance to move to the
Middle East and play for Al-Shabab Riyadh.
According to The Daily Mail, former Standard Liege manager Michel Preud'homme wants to bring the
Serbian to the wealthy Saudi Arabian club and is willing to match his current salary of £60,000 a
week in order to persuade him.
Liverpool are ready to snap up French Under 17 star M'Baye Niang from Caen, according to the Daily
Mirror.
The 16-year-old signed a new contract with Caen in January, however it's been reported that the
paperwork was filed incorrectly, making one of the hottest young prospects in world football
available on a free transfer.
Anderlecht has confirmed their interest in signing Liverpool's Milan Jovanovic - if they can agree
personal terms with the Serbian forward.
"We're currently negotiating with Jovanovic, but we couldn't achieve an agreement (yet)," a
spokesman for the Belgian side told BBC Sport.
"We're very much interested and the player would like to come.

Milan Jovanovic has revealed that he has met with Anderlecht officials to discuss his transfer from
Liverpool.
The former Standard Liege forward has already been told that he can leave Anfield for free after
just one year, with the Premier League club reportedly prepared to pay off his £60,000-a-week
wages.
Since giving up the lead in the second half against Real Salt Lake, the Philadelphia Union have
found themselves ahead on the scoreboard for all of eight minutes.
Whether you believe Veljko Paunovic was an inspired signing, an affable old Serbian, or merely
another band-aid to cover up the most glaring hole on the Union's roster (attacking midfielder),
you have to admit that the Union have a) created more chances and b) looked disorganized at best
and chaotic at worst defensively.
Liverpool winger Milan Jovanovic has been given permission to find a new club, after being told he
no longer features in the club's plans.
The Serbian has only been at Anfield for one-year after joining last season on a free-transfer from
Belgian club Standard Liege.
Despite appearing to find a place in Liverpool's starting XI, the winger subsequently found himself
frozen out of the team when Kenny Dalglish took the helm in January.
In another clear case of the backward thinking that's plagued their squad's recent form, the
Revolution front office has allowed a pair of proven players Marko Perovic and Ilija Stolica to
leave Foxborough all the while the team stumbles through one of its worst seasons ever.
The reasons given by Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns were two-fold: clearing
cap space and granting a player's request to return home.
